Does the staff ever smile? Ive gone into this place a couple of times over the past month and I have noticed there is a tension in the air. I heard waitresses openly discussing issues with other staff members with a full restaurant and full counter. The person up front makes the toast as soon as your order is taken and its delivered sometimes almost 20 minutes before your food arrives. Today, we ordered our breakfasts from our waitress who noticeably annoyed like she didnt want to handle another table. I felt unwelcome and so did the rest of my party. When we walked in, there were several open tables but our tables hadnt been set. No problem, places get busy, as a former waitress I understand that. I didnt understand how our waitress expected my sister to stir her coffee with no utensils after we placed our order and received our drinks. Once our food was delivered, we didnt hear or see our waitress for the remainder of the time. Finally, when she came back over, she asked "What do you want?" Excuse me? The Check! The food is average but the sour service staff just ruins the experience. If this is the type of place that is supposed to be like a "rude New Yorker" then I obviously missed the point of this place.

We stopped in before out flight back home and Im glad we did. The location only has a few tables/booths and we arrived just as a table was being cleaned off. I ordered the grand slam which held me over nicely despite our flight being delayed. Prices are very reasonable and portions are more than adequate. Street parking is limited and we had to double around to park alongside the building. Beware of the one way streets.

Went there for breakfast recently. The restaurant is small, but the service is pretty quick. Was just like the diners in NY (options include pancakes, french toast, egg sandwiches and corn beef hash). Also inexpensive; I ordered 1 egg with corn beef hash (comes with home fries and toast), which was less than $6 for a large portion.

Night owls rejoice! On weekends, this place keeps serving the full menu until 4:00 AM. The only downside is that most of their breakfast food is a kinda bleh and pretty undercooked. If its late and youre hungry, though, theres not much that beats this diners cozy atmosphere and friendly wait staff.

I have been going to the New Yorker for over 10 years and I have never been disappointed. A well run, service oriented diner with quality food. I brought my 3 year old for the first time and she lover it as well. The grand slam is great, the SCALI bread is perfect. Enjoy it.

It is very dirty but the food is pretty good I wipe down my silverware everything I get it and YES THE SERVERS DO NOT HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR THIS IS TRUE they should close for a weekend and do a complete overhaul and I bet you they would double in business..

The service was so bad that w wont likely ever go back. Some of the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant of any time. There are many othe diners in Watertown, Belmont, Waltham area with comparable food and staff that act like they care.

Ive been going to this place for years. Great greasy spoon. No skin on home fries. Fast service. The cops live this place so you know the coffee is good. BTW, this is not like a Greek NY dinner.
