On the way to the restaurant, we werent sure where to eat. I called the Sea Glass, and was directed to "press 1 for reservations", and then I sat on hold for 5 minutes until I finally gave up. We decided to press on anyway. Upon arriving at the parking lot, we were asked "do you have a reservation?", we said no and told him our story about the phone, but he acknowledged us like it was a normal experience for people not to have the phone answered. He then told us and to go ahead and park, excusing us from the need for a reservation. Your first impression as you walk in is nice, borderline fancy. The piano music was nice, the fireplace was great, we were seated near the fireplace, toward the windows. We were seated for at least 15 minutes (maybe more) before a waiter came to take a drink order. The bread arrived shortly after that, but we waited for probably another 10 minutes before the drinks showed up. At this point, we were beginning to question the service. You know how it goes, you start making jokes like "well, we can always eat the menus". As I sat there and took in the restaurant, the music, the fireplace, I had mixed emotions. The music and fireplace were very nice, but something felt a little stark about the scene. Thinking about it, I think there was too much light. It would probably have been better to dim the lights a bit, and perhaps have a candle on each table. Also, the windows didnt do much good from where we sat, they just looked like a light pale green light (the light reflecting off the water). I mention this because when we were seated, the hostess positioned us so that we were both looking more towards the windows then the fireplace. My wife had her back to the fireplace and piano player. After the drinks arrived, she realized she was missing out, and switched seats to the other side. She liked facing the fireplace and piano player much better. The food arrived in reasonable time after the drinks. My wife had the Scallops and Lobster with the bowtie pasta. She enjoyed that. I had a the braised short ribs, but I was not impressed. There was very little flavor in the ribs, it was just fatty meat. The plate was piled high with 4 ribs, which is good I guess, but it was nearly unmanageable on the plate. The "home fries" that were served with them were just so so. The highlight of that dish were the greens that had a nice taste. I have had beef short ribs at other restaurants that had much more taste (perhaps some more tasty sauce), they were served with a nice Risotto, which would be a much better side for the short ribs (or even garlic mash potatoes). Personally, I would have liked 2 quality beef ribs instead of 4 fatty ribs. Honestly, based on my experience, I will not be returning to the Sea Glass. By far, my favorite restaurant in the Amesbury/Newburyport/Salisbury area is Phat Cats in Amesbury. The atmosphere is great, the food is wonderful, the prices are reasonable. I suggest you check it out some time.

How this place has a 3.9 while some of the other fried seafood pubs and bars in the area have gotten 4+ stars is beyond me. If anything, it speaks more to the clientele and the American pallet and our expectations of a dining experience. The view here is spectacular. The best time to be here: anytime, really but if you can land a window seat in a thunderstorm: thats where its at. More importantly, the food is always spot on. Creative, fresh, properly treated and beautifully presented. My gripe would be the bar program. It feels like they have drastically stepped up the food in comparison to surrounding restaurants but the drinks have remained cheap, "beach" drinks. I generally dont bother ordering a drink here. I can be a snob about these kind of things but it just seems out of place. Sweet, sugary, cheap drinks remind me of high-schoolers, trying to get drunk and not taste it. Come on people. Time to grow up and enjoy a drink, like adults. Again, this may speak more to the publics expectation in this particular location but I bet if they upped their bar game, people would take note. (And if a manager is reading this, Id be happy to help create a proper bar menu and train staff)

We had reservations and were seated at an amazing table, there was a small wait maybe 15 min. but room at the bar for a drink prior, getting our check was forever no idea why, the bartender disappeared others showed up and never even glanced at us (4). Once we were seated we were attended to and got more drinks, were served bread. It seemed a lifetime before we got our order and I descretely asked the waiter why was it taking so long, it was because of two other tables of 18 people. Im glad they made sure those tables got their food in time but I am very dissapointed that the rest of us had to suffer for it. It was a special night for us and will remain memorable but it sure was dissapointing we waited so long for appetizers (45 min?) and this was later in the evening too after the 5-7 rush. We never ordered dinner, we left and had dinner at home. Larger parties need to be better managed with the kitchen and staff to allow for others. It wasnt our waitstaffs fault.

On Sunday, November 23, we went to The SeaGlass Restaurant with four couples to celebrate a 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had a reservation for 12:30. We werent seated until well after 1PM. We ordered drinks in order to toast our friends, and after 15 minutes, they still had not arrived. So, we proceeded up to the buffet. Most of the chaffing dishes dishes and the condiments were empty. The roast beef and turkey were very dry and were the only meats available. Most of the food was breakfast food with very little to accompany it. There were no roasted or mashed potatoes, only 1 vegetable, very few dinner rolls. All in all it was a horrible meal. Ive had better mealsatIHOP. The coffed was lukewarm, and we could never find the waitress. Needless to say, we wont go back nor will we recommend it to anyone.

This may be the only restaurant in all my years that I have walked out of. The busy season had not started yet but the place was out of control on a Sat. nite. People trying to eat dinner in the "lounge" as the place was over-flowing, the place so loud that conversation was impossible. We were seated at 7:20 and walked out at nearly 9:00 having got as far as the salad course. Great view, staff trying, but the management was non-existent....busy w/e night and they still felt the need to book side rooms full of special event crowds....totally overwhelmed. Not nice....greedy. Large bar, jammed with people, with no separation with the dining room....and a large screen TV visible for all to see....are you a sports bar or a gourmet restaurant? Cant have it both ways.

We just held my parents 50th anniversary lunch at SeaGlass in the private room off of the main dining room. What a wonderful time. Carolyn, our server, was attentive to our needs. She made sure she remained available, but was never disruptive. The food was fabulous, and everyone had a memorable time. Thank you so much! Emily Wetenkamp was the person who I worked with via email to make all the arrangements, and she was a delight. Very responsive to my inquiries, which I truly appreciated. I would highly recommend Seaglass for any dinner or function, whether it be a romantic dinner for two, a birthday celebration, or an anniversary. I will definitely return... in fact we just made a reservation for 10 people on Sunday for brunch! Looking forward to it!
