It was a bright sunny day, the S&S wasnt busy so I wanted to sit at a table near the window, enjoy my breakfast, and look forward to spring. Ive been going to this restaurant for 32 years since I live right up the street from it and Ive eaten breakfast there and sometimes dinner with friends and visitors and have sat by myself at that same table, and its always been an easy going place with good breakfast food,. But on this day the woman who was going to take me to my table didnt want me sit at the table for three by the window and she was pretty snarly about it, but the manager said it was OK, go ahead. When the waiter came out he gruffly told me I couldnt sit there because it was for three people even though a couple came in and were allowed to sit in a booth for four. There wasnt anyone waiting and several booths were empty but this guy had to enforce his rule. I thought it was pretty unreasonable so I told him I would just leave. It was OK with him, he didnt care. Sound petty? Well you can ask someone if they would please move or you can be a gruff and just plain rude, and at my age I cant abide rudeness. Bottom line is the place has gone down hill and they have lost a 32 year customer. I will never set foot in the place again. I didnt even want to give it one star.

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE S&S SINCE 1977. NEVER AGAIN! At 8 AM last Mothers Day, while this restaurant was almost completely empty, the woman in charge, sitting on her very ample posterior, had a whole line of people lined up in the Deli section and refused them seats "until their other parties arrived". One of those in line was an elderly and apparently arthritic woman. REASON: "we have a lot of people coming in today, different rules for Mothers Day." Well, all those other people were not there, almost no one was being served, and nearly everyone was standing uncomfortably in line because of this chickens**t rule - that had nothing to do with the actual situation in that empty restaurant. The laughing, arrogant, and self-satisfied attitude of the woman enforcing this rule said everything. IT IS CERTAINLY NO LONGER ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS AT THE S&S. I LEFT. THAT WILL BE MY LAST VISIT TO THE S&S AFTER NEARLY 40 YEARS. I went elsewhere for brunch in Cambridge and was completely happy with the setting for a meeting with an old friend. No need to put up with insufferable attitudes.

This place is the quintessential no frills, place-your-grandma-would-take-you, dated diner. Atmosphere is photos of yesteryear, when food was nutrition and not nuance, a president this diner still follows. The waiter was far flunged and forgetful, running from table to table giving little attention to ours leaving me to grab water from the work station to fill my own glass. When food arrived, it was ill timed and many people didnt get their food till others were half done. The brie, fig preserve french toast was passe to the extreme; fig and brie was almost non existent and tasteless. The fruit salad, old and dry, was in great company with the fake maple syrup and the thin, flat bacon. For those who got todays special, the eggs bendict, the classic running egg was stiff and hard boiled. This place was chosen as a last resort on a busy Sunday and Id care to argue I would have been better off making breakfast at home, clean up and all.

Well as I entered the facility I stood there while around 4 employees just sat there and looked at us as another woman approached that also works at the restaurant she simply stated please move out the way. no one greeted us, no one asked us how many in our party to be seated, they simply just asked us to move out the way.I was very fustruated that we were not greeted or taken care of we were just asked to move out the way. I was even more overwhelmed becuase of the fact that we traveled all the way from brookline to enjoy a meal after a move. I would really be thankful if this matter be handled I am not sure if this is the way they conduct business daily but I am sure this could not make for a good experience.I know my experience was not good

The S & S is hands down my favorite Cambridge restaurant. Never a bad meal - and since weve been eating there for over 20 years thats saying something. Theres an extensive menu so its not easy to list my favorites - or decide what to order for that matter. But you cant go wrong for breakfast (served all day), lunch or dinner. Omelettes, S & S wings, the wraps, seafood, desserts - all delicious. Plenty of booths, excellent waitstaff (and they work there for decades which says a lot about the place), reasonable prices, parking - its all good. I love all the blown-up vintage photos of the restaurant and Inman Square that theyve added to the dining rooms too. A restaurant like this is a treasure in my book and I recommend it as often as I can.

This place is really the epitome of just "okay". We ordered fried pickles, their "award winning" wings, and a rack of the S&S ribs. The fried pickles were as expected, very standard. It was my first time trying fried pickles so I dont have much to compare with. Theyre just pickles fried in dough, almost like onion rings. The sauce on the wings was pretty strong, but again nothing really stood out and Im not sure Id recommend unless you love wings that much. The ribs were also just all right. The meat wasnt that tender and the sauce wasnt too special. In a word, forgettable. We also got a few beers and they were fairly bland. Overall a nice diner with acceptable food, but dont have your expectations set too high.

They catered my moms memorial service on 6/27/2015, and everyone raved about the food -- especially the CHEESECAKE! Also, working with them was so little fuss I was afraid they were going to forget to deliver the food -- but it came, right on time! So I highly recommend catering with the S&S, and definitely including cheesecake. Oh and I ordered pickle platters too. Weve gone to the restaurant on and off for years... I knew I wanted some of their awesome pickles! :-D Only one thing -- they said they do online ordering, but they cant do it without a phone call. You can change or tweak the order via email, though.

Food is usually good. Im not sure whats been going on internally because recent encounter with staff was not service friendly. Ive used the catering once or twice in the past however this last experience was not good. The woman I spoke to she said she would complete my order and call me back. She let a whole week and half go by without informing she wasnt taking the order. Then when I called them back she made excuses to avoid the completing the order. She was not accommodating or helpful in any way. This a business build on providing a service. FOOD! Unhappy customer, S&S do better!!!

Have been going to this restaurant for more than a decade and recently having breakfast with my kids. My poor son says something crawling on my plate. It was a roach. Prior to this, annoying fruit flies kept making the way to our table. Waiter very apologetic but this is unacceptable. Its 2016 good exterminators is available. I will never ever eat here again. I still had to pay for the rest of the meal which we did it touch. Who can eat after this? Did talk to the manager but she didnt deny having roaches. I just feel like I was not heard. Just ended leaving and disgusted.
