Originally I thought it was just me who didnt get the hype/popularity of this tiny mediocre restaurant... Lines pile up with ridiculous wait times of 2+ hours. (This place only seems like it can seat up to 40 people including the bar.) Wake up sheeple! Dont let the trendy decoration and massive menu lure you in! There are plenty of better places around Boston to eat (Kaze Shabu Shabu, Taiwan Café, just to name a couple...)! Time and time again my family insisted on coming back here for reunions and my birthday... To my dismay each visit was worse than the previous. I appreciate the gesture and spending time with family, but the most recent FOOD POISONING incident was the last straw! I cant believe in the hundreds of other reviews this has not already cropped up. I suspect the culprit was the a la carte salmon, as both my SO and I had this while the rest of my family stuck to the hot pot combos. Just to clarify, this is not our first or even 5th time eating hot pot. We have even done DIY hot pot at home. I can assure you, we thoroughly cooked the food in the boiling broth and we received sub-par contaminated meat! I only tried a small piece of the salmon, and felt completely nauseous with cold chills a couple hours after the meal. The SO unfortunately suffered a much worse fate: painful streams of projectile vomit throughout the sleepless night. TMI, I know... Even if this was an isolated instance, there are several other displeasing factors why Id advise you to seek other options. If you have more than 4 people you will probably need to wait for a while to be seated and most likely your group will end up in one of those god awful corner booths crammed in like sardines. No leg or elbow room, and make sure you get your bathroom pit stops before youre landlocked. When they start bringing out the dishes you will want to clear through the basket of veggies to make room for the other dishes or else you will end up perpetually holding the sauces in your hand or risk knocking something over. Not to mention, theres only about a 1-foot gap between your table and the table next to you so its extremely difficult for the servers as well to maneuver and if you want to take some photos of your special occasion gathering. The food and drink options while bountiful are all mediocre at best. They have several spice levels for the broth (i.e. crazy mala) that some of my family members ordered, but I am not the biggest fan of sinus clearing/sweat inducing experiences. Im not sure why, but I also just dont like the satay sauce here at all! It seems to be a lighter brown than all the other locations Ive gone to. Despite my clear disapproval of this restaurant, I have to admit their prices are relatively affordable and the Ive never had any issues with the service. It is also conveniently located right next to the parking garage. They even advertise that they validate parking for up to $7. Also each time weve gone they have brought out a yummy slice of chocolate cake with the "Happy Birthday" message and a huge sparkler on top sometimes also singing. I think its finally time for me to accept that me and this restaurant will never be and move on. I wont judge you if this is your ride or die option... well maybe just a little.

This place is way over-priced. We ordered the $12 tuna takati and it came with just 6 pieces very very thinly cut tuna slices. Not worth $12 at all. Then we ordered 2 hot pot combos, one supreme seafood and one high choice lamb. The supreme seafood is a joke, not even enough for one person. So we had to order two more high choice lamb. The broth is ok, but when the water evaporated, the waiter did not bother to add more water or broth. So the broth got very salty later on. So still not enough food, we ordered Shanghai chowmein with pork. I figure this place cares about customers health so much that I could only find several thinly shredded pork pieces in the noodle. The last thing, when we received the bill, they added 18% tip to the check. They said they automatically add that to any check with a party with 5 or more people. They claim the tip is for the waiting staff and there is nothing they can do about it. This place is such a disappointment. Everything is so much over-priced. And adding 18% tip to a family of 5 (3 kids) is really bad. So we still had to pay 18% tip with bad over-priced food? I do not recommend this place to our friends.

This is one of my all time favorites. Ive taken friends, gone for birthdays (including mine), great for dates and the other night a business dinner with co-workers from Germany where people go to eat to socialize not just eat. Ive gotten hot pot and sushi, both outstanding but I love the hot pot. In the winter, you walk in and are immediately hit with the steam of amazing broths to warm you up. The vegetables and mushrooms are unreal fresh and while I dont eat them the meats looks amazing too. Dinner here takes a long time as you cook each bite in the broth(s) (you can get two different broths to have variety). This is great if you want to eat, chat, drink and be happy. No reservations so I recommend calling ahead (30 minutes during the week, 60 min on the weekends). I have personally waited over 2 hours (when not calling ahead) which should tell you how amazing this place is as who would ever wait that long. For this place, I would! One note, the sushi is some of the best in the area. I dont get it often but when I do I am extremely pleased with it.

When I tell you we are regulars at Q, I literally mean we go (at least) once a week for hotpot. Their other food looks great and their menu is HUGE and probably awesome, but weve only ever had hotpot. So heres the deal. Pick your broth, pick your meats, veggies, sides, literally anything you want to put in a soup they probably have. Add as you go. Enjoy. We had one awful experience and even that didnt deter us from coming back. We will always be loyal to what we consider to be the best hotpot in Boston! The staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable. They dont take reservations but you can do "call ahead" to put your name on the list and then check in when you get there, but not sure that really saves you much time. There is almost always a wait and for good reason, Q is great! They also validate parking for the garage next door so theres no excuse not to come here!

Some of the best sushi Ive eaten is at the Q. I always heard good things about it from my friends - about the food and the service, and theyre true. I didnt have a chance to have any hot pot during my visit, but the sushi and the drinks were really good. The cream cheese was highlighted well in the Canada roll without being too heavy, and the Crazy roll had great shrimp and came with a really tasty sauce. The Q earns the 5th star from me because I usually dont like sweet potato, and certainly not in my sushi, but when I tried my friends sweet potato roll, it was amazing! The sauce they pair with the sweetness does a great job of developing upon what could easily have been a one-note taste. And if you like fruity drinks, get the first one on the menu (cant remember the name).
