The restaurant is friendly, beautiful, inviting. The waitresses are exceptionally beautiful, helpful and friendly. The place was packed with Ethiopians (you know its got to be good). We arrived around 9pm and when we left at 11pm the place started to get packed. I asked for a savory, spicy, beef dish and they brought out the most amazing Ethiopian food Ive ever had. And I love Ethiopian food. I cant recall the name of the dish, but if you ask for the same, Im sure theyll suggest the dish to you. Warning though, the plate was not your typical spicy - it was intense. But I love spice. Im sure there are dishes with less or no spice. This has become a new favorite, and Im sure the restaurant will be seeing a lot of me from now on. Enjoy!

There are a number of Ethiopian places to dine in Silver Spring, all within a stones throw of each other. I chose Abyssinia because the decor inside looked inviting and the music was lively. The waitresses were helpful and gorgeous and the food preparation didnt take too long. I ordered the lentil sambusa (which is the same as Indian samosa) to begin with and it was great. Soft yet crispy and full of flavor. The following main course of Doro Wat (chicken) wasnt that great though. The chicken was tough and some of the potatoes were pretty tough too - it seemed like the meal was a left over reheated. In summary - eat here if you care about the ambience and friendliness not if you care about the taste

This place is awful. They repeatedly host loud live music (think a full band and drum kit on a patio that is the size of your average studio apartment) and management is rude, unresponsive, and disrespectful. We have attempted to address this issue by phone and in person and have been hung up on and physically pushed out of the restaurant. In fact, the most recent time I called to speak to them about the incredibly loud drumming, I was told that a manager wasnt even on the premises...which is a violation of liquor laws. To have such a great neglect for the neighbors and the county ordinances is bad enough but to be dismissive and combative about it is even worse.

Abyssinia Restaurant is one of my favorite Ethiopian restaurants to dine in. The interior decor portrays the actual Ethiopian meal time setting and cultural experience. Outside seating is exceptionally beautiful. The food is nothing short of amazing. Not only do they play traditional Ethiopian music, but also have a bar in the back that plays different music from all around the world. Live Ethiopian and reggae music on FRIDAYS and SATURDAYS with cookout on FRIDAYS is very nice. The waitresses are helpful and the service is fast. I go there almost every weekend.

What an amazing dinner tonight! Such kind and friendly people own this fantastic restaurant which well deserves its 4.5 Yelp Stars. We started with the Foul appetizer, its a must! For our entrees we had the Kitfo and the combination platter. They were accompanied by a salad and two delicious vegetarian sides. Try their house made cottage cheese. This was easily the best Ethiopian restaurant weve ever tried. Each dish had completely unique and distinct flavors - every bite was like a small celebration. You must go, savor, appreciate and enjoy!

This was my first time sitting down at an Ethiopian restaurant and I wasnt disappointed. It was an interesting experience eating the meat and vegetables with the injera, which was served in plentiful amounts. I had the Goden Tibs which were lamb ribs fried with onions, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers and a salad. The meat was tender and flavorful and I definitely see myself going back and trying more dishes.

I have gone to abyssinia couple of times. Especially for their happy hour. they also have good food, especially the Abyssinia Kitfo. They make it unlike other Ethiopian Restaurants i have been into. The servers are very friendly and beautifully. The manager is also very friendly, he comes and greets all his customers. I recommend Abyssinia restaurant to anyone who wants to try Ethiopian food.

Great atmosphere! I came in on a Friday night and was surprised by an incredible reggae performance. The food is pretty good, but the music was awesome. I strongly recommend this slot for anyone that wants to have a fun Friday.
