Bakery seemed very commercialized rather than client-focused. Wife and I went to check them out during our wedding cake-search and we were less than impressed with a lot of things. First of all, when we tested, we tested with about five other couples and shared two different coordinators. Their cake was average at best and if you couple that with some lack-luster store bought fillings and a less than unique design from one of their books and you have a Cakes Plus cake. Our wedding was Valentines Day and they told us that they would have someone to deliver it (although it would be extra), we called back to confirm the delivery availability and they said they were no longer able to deliver on that date, however, they would be able to make the cake on Friday or Saturday send it to their warehouse and then send it to our venue on Sunday. We did not want our cake sitting for 2 or 3 days prior to eating it nor did we want it moved to three different locations, they did not seem to care about our concerns or objections regarding the delivery situation. Needless to say we did not choose Cakes Plus and I recommend you do not either.

Ive been eating cakes from here since I was a very young child when my parents went here and I am still a loyal customer for my celebrations. Some of their older employees do not necessarily radiate friendliness so if that is what you want try to speak with their younger employees. Saturdays and weekends before big holidays are insane and that not only takes a toll on the service but I experienced many nasty waiting customers. Save yourself and go during the week when it is calm. The cakes are always moist and super delicious and I have a serious weakness for their frostings, especially their chocolate fudge. If you go into your consultation knowing what you want they can make just about any design happen, if you have something specific you want bring pictures. Within the last couple of years they started selling really quality and inexpensive cupcakes and cookies and brownies, such a brilliant idea. Cakes plus is also the best specially cake supply store in the area, when ever I take on my own cake design project, its my go-to. I absolutely recommend this place, no hesitations.

I LOVE Cakes Plus cupcakes! They are so delicious-- exactly what a cupcake should be- super moist with just the right amount of sweet butter cream frosting. I also love that they dont make them too large- exactly the right size to eat two at a time! ;-) This place is a mad house before any three day weekend because folks cant stand to be without their cupcakes for more than a day! In my opinion they are just as good, if not better, than most of the fancy cupcake spots in D.C. but for a fraction of the cost (well under a buck per cupcake)! They are my go-to contribution to for birthdays, pot lucks, barbeques, holidays, etc! We also enjoy them in my house just because! Its not a birthday unless I have my Cakes Plus cupcakes! They can personalize them with colors etc but I love the standard chocolate with butter cream and vanilla with butter cream. (Rows 1 & 2). I also love their lemon cupcakes. Red velvet could stand more cocoa powder but still is delicious. Im not a fan of they chocolate frosting though!

When it came time to pick our wedding cake we already knew that we would be using Cakes Plus. We have used them for the last 5 years for birthdays and events, Our personal favorite is the yellow cake and chocolate fudge frosting. We decided on 5 cakes for our wedding, and let them come up with the flavor combinations. We took in some pictures for the designs for the cake. They turned out perfectly!!! the colors came out exactly as promised and the designs were flawless. One of the cakes was our favorite that we saved for later, it ended up being our dessert after the wedding and breakfast in the morning before checking out of our hotel! We received so many compliments on the delicious cakes!!! The staff are very professional, courteous, responsive and friendly. They verified everything for our order and delivered on time. Thank you very much Cakes Plus!!!

I totally agree with Tracys Sep 11, 08 posting of the counter clerks being rude. Seems like they did not want any questions asked and to just pick a cake. The art work was so expensive. To have a picture airbrushed on (one of their pictures) it was $14. That is above and beyond the price of the cake which was rediculously high. The cakes on display were not fantastic like I heard they would be. They looked like only one-layer cakes and not much to them. One other thing, the place was so unprofessional in their look. The pictures in the book were not clear and the books were a mess. I can only gather if the books look like this then the cakes may look the same. Im not taking any chances. They also do not offer whipped topping. I am going back to BJs where the cakes are wonderful, they have whipped topping, and the price is right.

I absolutely LOVE Cakes Plus. Although they are pricey (if you compare to grocery store cakes), I believe they are average for a bakery. I get all of my kids birthday and special event cakes from them although I live miles away in Northern Virginia. I usually take a copy of the party invitation (my speciality) in and the owner or whomever they have designing the cakes does an AWESOME job branding the cake to match the theme. I have encountered one "not-so-nice" employee but most of the other employees are sweet and patient. Things get a bit hectic on Fridays and Saturdays. I usually take off the Friday before the event to go pick up my cakes before traffic and other prep errands get in the way. So if you go these days, be sure to pack your patience. But if youre a true cake lover, I promise it will be SO worth it!

If I could give this place a -3 star rating I would. I ordered a cake from this place and this one particular employee was extremely rude to me. While waiting to pick up a cake I had ordered I asked to use their bathroom and the lady said no. Like really? How do you not allow your customers to use the bathroom? I had to go to khols next door and walk about a mile to the back of the store. I almost peed all over myself. It was one of the most embarrassing experiences Ive EVER HAD in my entire life. If this is how you are going to treat your customers I will go elsewhere to buy a cake. The cake wasnt even that great. I couldve gotten a grocery store cake that wouldve been better. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, where do we begin!!. From our first initial consultation and cake tasting my fiancé and I knew this would be "The place" for our Wedding cake. Our cake was delivery on time and tasted so delicious. All of our guests LOVED The Cake and were astonished to know, such a sweet local Bakery can make such an amazing cake. The consultant Paris and Linda worked very hard with us to ensure our cake had our special Demask design same as our invitation theme. The workmanship and hand design Décors were incredible in appearance. Cakes Plus is the Place to get your cake because they are professional and they Aim to Please. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. O
