The Rover used to be a family favorite when I was growing up. The owner is from County Clare in the Republic of Ireland and he wanted to create as authentic of an Irish experience for Louisvillians as he could, which really shows in the menu and in the decor. Truthfully, Im pretty biased toward this restaurant due to my love of Ireland and the sentimental memories that I have of this place, but I strive to be as objective as I can in my reviews. On that note, the service here likely wont blow your mind. While the owner managed to capture a great many aspects of Irish culture, he cant force his workers to attain that fabled level of Irish hospitality. Dont get me wrong -- the servers are very nice and my order has always been accurate, but they usually seem too busy to engage in conversation or beyond polite formality. That being said, I would be happy to eat here every single week. I highly recommend the cottage pie, the fish and chips, the seafood pie, and the lamb stuffed cabbage. And dont forget to wash it down with a good pint of something nice.

We drove in the pouring rain to two other restaurants, our first choice was closed, the second was soooo crowded. We ended up here and boy are we glad! The location is great, the atmosphere was great. We went on a Monday night so it wasnt overly crowded, but you got the sense that it was mostly regulars there at this time. We walked through the bar to the dining room, it could have easily been a pub in Ireland. My husband had a Guiness, I had the Magners Cider and we started the meal with the Scotch eggs. They were delicious! I ordered the Cottage pie and he had the fish and chips. The stew was so good, it was a little overboard with the bread bowl, mashed potatoes and stew chocked full of potatoes, but its pretty standard Irish cooking. The fish was perfect, crisp coating, flaky fish, perfect season. Overall, we both joked at how the 3rd time was a charm for our excursion and it has officially moved up to one of our first choices!

I hate to do this but I was not impressed when I went here last. The only reason it got 3 stars and not 2 is because there are alot of beers on tap, and the service is awesome. Firstly the bisque I started with... if there is dried overcooked parts on the serving bowl it is clear that they put bisque in a bowl and then microwaved it. Because when you poor soup from a cooking pot into a bowl when its hot it does not dry out and cook on the edge. Not only that but the bisque wasnt good really. The mussels were too fishy to eat. I guess Im picky because Ive lived in the gulf and also in the north east. And lastly my wifes appatizer, the salmon dip, was actually just a packet of salmon from the grocery made tuna fish style. Also really not edible. I wont return again but maybe I was just there on a bad night.

Weve been here twice over the past month. We have tried a lot of the menu and I would recommend the scotch egg, cordon bleu fritters, cottage pie, salmon and potato gratin, rover salmon. Chicken cashel blue was good but overpriced. The sauce was outstanding though. Lamb stuffed cabbage was lacking some spices for taste buds. I love seafood but the seafood pie was a bust for me. Crab cakes and salmon rillettes were just ok. With all that being said I still give this place 5 stars for the quality and value you get here. Its nice to feel like youre in a real Irish pub! I will definitely have to try the fish and chips next.

I eat here at least every other week, normally weekly. Not sure on the few reviews saying "bad customer service". Ive never gotten bad service here. People go to the Rover on a Friday night, their busiest time frame and expect their food to be done within 5 minutes. Sometimes I am amuse by the lack of common sense. I go around 5ish on Thursdays and sit at the bar.Start out with a nice Whiskey and then order. Normally I have a nice fresh meal within 10-15 minutes.

Excellent food and drinks! We got the hot apple cider, hot rum cider, and hot Irish coffee and would recommend any of them. The food was definitely the best part and we ordered scotch egg, cottage pie, and the fish and chips. The Irish Rover was busy, but every employee did everything possible to make our experience enjoyable; definitely worth any wait quoted. When we are back in Louisville, we will definitely be stopping.

The Irish Rover is always my stop when visiting Louisville. They offer Irish "pub grub" and brews, some of it familiar, such as fish and chips or a good salad, along with a few specialties like Scotch eggs and the Lamburger. The building itself looks like something transplanted out of Ireland, just as comfortable and welcoming as the staff are. I enjoy coming back here every time.

To all current and future customers: A group of known Antifa terrorist show up at a pub and demand the expulsion of a peaceful group of people sharing ideas, call them racist Nazis and the bar owner complies. This place should be avoided at all cost. Antifa are a violent terrorist organization. For your safety, I would suggest staying away from any place that Antifa frequents.

I always liked this place until I found out that the owners/management? are communist supporters. They went so far as to allow a group of local communists to ruin everyones dinner so they could yell at some group in the back. These people were absolutely disgusting and the smell was enough to ruin anyones dinner. If you dont like groups of loud obnoxious freaks, dont go here.

Food was excellent! We had enough to take home to save for dinner. Started with a Scotch egg for an appetizer. Not healthy, but yummy! I got the lamb stuffed cabbage (excellent). My husband got the cottage pie (probably best thing on the menu). Loved that they had typical kid food of grilled cheese and chicken fingers as well as Irish food. So glad they had a parking lot.

Excellent pub atmosphere in great section of old Louisville. One of the only places in town (or regionally) to get a Fullers on draught. Food wise, the menu has been steady for many years. Recommend the Fish and Chips, Rover Chicken and Chicken Cashel Blue for mains, Cheese Fritters and Salmon Pate for starters. Definitely Guiness Chocolate Cake to finish.

The people bad mouthing this place are stupid. The food is great. One review claim the owner, who Ive talked to many times, kicked them out when the complained about a dead fly. I believe that like I believe in Big Foot. Great place, great beer selecton and the staff is awesome. By far, the best Irish Pub in the state of Kentucky.

disappointing. I ordered a grilled steak salad. It came out and the steak was chilled and very difficult to chew, not to mention it wasnt very flavorful. I sent it back (which I rarely do) and ordered something else and they charged us for both dishes. Mediocre food at best and obviously not so concerned about the customer.

Love this place. Solid pub style and irish food for very reasonable prices. Good beer selection. I enjoy the building itself, it has a lot of history. Note: the majority of the low star reviews were from one unfortunate night (which I was present, but not involved with) involving two groups of people with different views.
