I love home cooked food so I was very excited to try Back Home Restaurant. My husband and I went around 2:30 on a Saturday. We walked in and there was a sign that said "please wait to be seated" so thats what we did. We were standing there for maybe a minute and the woman behind the cash register was very rude and attacking and said, "Its going to be a minute." My husband and I got the sense that we were not welcome there, but we stuck it out anyway. The rude woman sat us about 2 minutes later and got out drinks. Im thinking maybe she is the owner or manager because she was not wearing shirts like the servers. She clearly does not know how to treat customers and keep business. We had to wait a while for the waiter to come. We both ordered side salads and received a bowl with a little bit of lettuce, half of a cucumber slice, and one small piece of onion. Very disappointed. I ordered a Roast Beef Manhattan that was cold and the roast beef looked like it was from a package you warm up in the microwave from Kroger. My husband ordered Catfish Filets. They were not filets they were more like catfish nuggets and looked like they were from the freezer section. We were very disappointed and we will NEVER go back. If you like good food and service then Back Home Restaurant in Elizabethtown, Ky is NOT the place to go!

I googled "best peach cobbler in Elizabethtown" and this restaurant came up. It is about 30 to 40 minutes from my place. Maybe I had super expectations, but the peach cobbler was not spectacular. Didnt taste homemade and the ice cream also tasted like a fake vanilla. Anyway, I didnt try any other food dishes, so I cannot rate all, just the peach cobbler. The restaurant was clean, staff was great and the decor was wonderful. Hopefully this is not the best peach cobbler in E-town. I will rate it as a 4 because of the store and service; but the cobbler; no difference then a frozen pie heated up :( ..

I have lived in Etown for 3 years now, and I have always wanted to go here, just never have. Well, I went for the very first time last weekend with my girlfriends, and now I know what I have been missing! I absolutley loved it. The service was great, food was great, and there was not a TV to been seen! I am so tired of restaurants putting so many TVs in your face that you cant even carry on a conversation with your company. We sat at our booth for hours chatting and relaxing. It was a great experience, and I plan on taking my mom here this weekend. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

We take a lot of road-trips together as a family all across the country. Our rule is to never eat at a place we could find at home. Needless to say, we have been to an eclectic mix of mom and pop places in our travels. We all agreed that this was the best of the best of places weve stopped. The place is riped out of the 1850s and made of perfect southern charm. The staff was warm, inviting and defined "hospitality" in the most organic way. The food was equally charming. Southern cooking in its natural form.

Presentable, countrified decor. Uncomfortable seating. Seemed a little too close. Space wasted on gift shop etc. better used for more spacious dining area. No privacy whatsoever. Mediocre wait staff. Smug, unfriendly owners. Overpriced gifts. In business before Paula Deen became a household name, but similar heavy-laden, leaden recipes, where more is more, but is it better? I can skip it and never miss it. Its country cooking but nothing special.

A restaurant should be consistent with the quality of their food. This one was great when I first moved to the area five years ago. Second visit was just okay. Third visit I decided they were using canned vegetables. Seriously, dont know if I will return. Just not tasting like home cooked food anymore. Maybe things have changed, but I dont like spending my money on food that is not what it is supposed to be. Try for yourself.

My colleagues and I agree that this is the best meal we have had in ages! The pretzel balls with beer cheese made the perfect appetizer, and the raspberry vinaigrette dressing was the best Ive ever tasted. The fresh raspberry taste was out of this world! If I lived in the area, I would eat here on a regular basis for sure!

The service was fast and the food was good but small portions size for the price. We got roast beef, it didn`t fill us up, it came with 2 slices of bread(which I didn`t like either, I would have preferred more mashed potatoes), a little bit of mashed potatoes on top and about 4 small bites of meat and a side.

This was second time here. Was not impressed the first time but thought to give it another chance. Wont go back again! Way too expensive!!!! Portion sizes were small for the price paid. Poor service. Went for an early meal, only a few patrons in establishment and service was rushed.

First time dining there...wait staff was friendly the atmosphere was awesome...but the food was a disaster and it was very disheartening to me because i read all the wonderful reviews so i am going to take this as a first time mess up and i might visit again ...i dont know...

1st visit: waited 30+ minutes to be served cold food & have a waitress continually call my fiance "honey" (some may say "southern hospitality", I say "disrespectful" and my fiance does too). 2nd visit: my children were served still-frozen-in-the-middle chicken tenders.

Back Home is near my office, and is a great place to meet clients for a bite. The food is ALL Kentucky, including hot browns and fried green tomatoes. Though I dont usually follow a meal with desert, I cant resist their varieties of home-made fudge on my way out!

This place is great! A definite must visit for great food and a great atmosphere. The service is really friendly and the food comes out quickly. The old, historic house is just amazing especially if youre into historic places.

Down home cooking in a historic building. If you are looking for a home cooked meal in Elizabethtown then look no further. Plenty of old favorites on the menu. A great place to take out the folks and the family to.

Simply wonderful... a previous comment said meal was cold. Ours was piping hot and delicious. Even brought us more catfish when we said we didnt get enough. Super friendly and reasonable price. Highly recommend.

Good home style cooking with a homey feel. Not the best place for larger groups (5+) on a busy day as the seating is limited, though they do have a room for large groups if planned or not so busy.
