Heres the thing. I want to love this place. Ive never had bad (maybe a little spacey, but not bad) service. I find the prices on par. I deeply love the new and creative flavors. I mean . . . Dutch Letter ice cream and maraschino cherry ice cream?! How cool is that? And I do suspect I will return. But the ice cream is lacking something. Ive been probably six or seven times, and each time, I dont feel the deep satisfaction I get from other ice cream. Its like some ingredient is being left out, and it just falls a little flat. The flavors are not as sharp as they should be. That being said, the waffle cones are outstanding! Such a great thickness and flavor is rare in the Greater Des Moines Area (and Ive visited nearly all of the ice cream places in the area). So, I recommend it, but I do think they can work on flavor.

This place is truly one of a kind. By far, the absolute best ice cream in the state, probably the world. The friendly staff, the wonderful atmosphere, and of course the flavors truly set this shop apart from anything else youve ever tried. Small batch, handcrafted artisan style ice cream right here in Iowa minutes south of the metro. The best ingredients and the freshest products every single day. I love The Outside Scoop. Thank you for all you guys do!

I went when I was in town for training for work. Everyone went as a group as a recommendation from our trainer. The ice cream is fantastic! They have many unique flavors including one made with goat cheese. It would be awesome, though, if they had one or two non dairy flavors. The last time I was there I happened to be on a dairy-free stint because I was nursing my youngest who had a dairy allergy.

Here is the thing just like most people I only read the bad reviews so here is the deal I love this place but....I love this place !!!! I only put one star so you will read this and know to come here! I understand that they run out of things sometimes but that makes me happy, when they run out it means they are still makings things fresh! Keep making things fresh and keep running out of them!

I love this shop. I usually dont make it down when their pink truck is parked downtown (yay for Des Moines allowing food trucks!) but I love planning a visit to Indianola for ice cream because there are more options in their shop and it is not that far and is a nice little evening drive. More expensive than the chains and usually busy in the shop on nice days, but so worth it!

Best ice cream Ive ever had. The many flavors that they offer are amazing. The only bad part about this place is deciding on what to get. Ive always had great service and the owner is usually there if in the rare case that theres a problem, such as why theyre out of your favorite flavor but most of the time theres more in the back.

Little to no major changes since the change in ownership. Any noticeable changes made have all been good changes. Workers are very polite to customers. Overall the customer service is amazing, and there is a reason they are almost constantly busy, it is simply amazing

This place is a little unassuming. I ordered the cinnamon roll ice cream and was pleasantly surprised. The ice cream itself was very smooth and creamy and their were pieces of cinnamon roll mixed in. I will be back to try their other flavors.

Forth time I have been to this establishment since change in management and they repeatedly did not have waffle cones. When I asked if they could be made, Since it was still hours from close, employee was rude and not helpful.
