Great for vegetarians! Service was slow, being only one person taking care of the whole restaurant, which is understandable. The space was quit without music, just the sounds of everyones conversations. We were not offered drinks, any specific dishes, or dessert. Being my first time there, I wanted to experience a lot. However, the woman insisted we get one less appetizer since we were looking forward to the vegetarian combo for two. My stomach still growled after the tasty pastry. The food was delicious, but the portions could have been bigger.

This was our first time at Abyssinia. We have eaten several times at another Ethiopian resturant and we hoped it would be as good. It was delicious!! The staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. She wanted to know how they compared to the other resturant and when we told her one of the differences, she brought out to us that item to enjoy. The food was hot in temp, spiced perfectly, plenty of food for the two of us when oredering the combo for one with sambosas for appetizers. It was a wonderful lunch and we will return again!

Usually a decent place to eat but this time around the food was disappointing. The doro wat was the worst thing I have ever seen. Little strips of meat, no egg, a total scam. The food didnt taste fresh. The kitfo and tej were both good. The music next door covered the entire atmosphere, you could barely hear the person next to you. Also, the service was disappointing. I would probably come back, but wouldnt sit inside and would probably order just either kitfo or gored gored to go.

The food here is amazing and the portions are great, My wife and I like to split the "Taste of Albyssinia" for 1person (which is a sampler of 6 different dishes) and we are always stuffed. The atmosphere is a little lacking and this area of Indianapolis is not nice but it is well worth the trip!!! The Owners/Cooks are all very friendly. Every time we go, we see Ethiopians stopping in for carry out or eating there... which is a good testament to the food. We love it!

It was a great expierience me and my fiance ordered the ethiopian coffee we didnt realize it was a little ceremony! It was very cool. The food was great. The only downside was after 9 pm the bar next door plays very loud music that reverberates through the wall. This is no fault to the restaurant the staff is very nice and checks on you regularly. Great experience left full and happy!

Pros: Good food, vegetarian/vegan friendly, a great variety of options to choose from. Cons: Slightly expensive, longer wait times, noisy atmosphere. I have been here two times, and on both occasions, I have had to wait for over 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Water glasses were not filled regularly, and the atmosphere was a little noisy. 3 stars for the great food.

This place has my favorite food in town. You must be ok with eating food with your hands. The food is flavorful and just generally delicious. If you have never tried Ethiopian and like ethnic food at all definitely try that place. The service is very good but a little slow. I enjoy the pace it allows you to relax and enjoy the meal.

Bland food, a server who couldnt care what she was doing, an owner who sat at one of the seats shouting into his phone for the entire time we were there and prices that would be fine in a 3* restaurant, not Abyssinia, are the reasons why this visit was pretty lame. There are better options for Ethiopian in Indy.

The service is very hospitable, and friendly. I gave only 3 stars and an "okay" rating because thought the all the food tasted pretty much the same, and it needed salt in my opinion. I might try it again, but with all the new restaurants opening nearly every day in Indy, Ill probably try others.

Mid range Ethiopian food, but lets be honest Ethiopian food is just amazing. They got rid of a buffet they use to have which makes it harder for me to go for lunch due to time constraints. I moved to Indy partly because it had Ethiopian cuisine, so frequent this place and keep them profitable.

Our family enjoys the food at Abyssinia tremendously. The restaurant has a very authentic vibe and, despite being simple, it has comfortable furnishings. Service is very friendly and helpful, especially for those not used to Ethiopian food. This is a place I always stop by whenever I am in Indy.

Awesome dining experience - delicious food that caters to a wide variety of flavor palettes. If you havent had Ethiopian food before, try it out - instead of utensils, you use a spongy flatbread called injera to scoop up the food. Its a very fun experience and a great place to go with a group.

This was my first Ethiopian meal. I asked for the most traditional option and was brought injera & wat plus honey wine. The food was delicious and eating without utensils was a fun excursion. Service from Lidya was good. I left positively stuffed. I look forward to trying the coffee next time.

Eat on their traditional tables, use your hands to eat, drink an Ethiopian beer, and embrace this wonderful experience. We had the sampler #2...amazing! Baklava is warm, fresh, and flakey....we never had Ethiopian before...and will definitely be back! The staff is awesome and super helpful

I love trying international restaurants, but this one is definitely different. It might be my taste, but I didnt enjoy the food. The portions were quite small and it seemed expensive, especially for lunch. It was nearly $40 with the tip.

The coffee is amazing!! I really enjoyed the food. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food. We got a platter to try a lot of different options. I loved everything even the curry... and I never eat curry! lol I recommend!

I love this place. Friendly staff, great food, and plenty of enjera. No need for silverware here. Use your fingers! Most times that I am here the owner makes his rounds to all of the tables; ensuring all is well. Great job.

This restaurant features good vegetarian food. It also has a wide variety of other dishes. There is also an ethiopian grocery store right next door. Highly recommended!

Our first visit was great, but the second time the whole family got food poisoning. Too bad that we liked the food...not going to risk to suffer a whole weekend though.
