The quality and freshness are unbeatable for the Midwest. The food tastes as good as it looks and even better. I have been to a LOT of sushi places in the northwest suburbs. Most of them have some kind of contrived or inadequate atmosphere and pretentious attitudes like they are doing you a favor by serving you rice-balls with hidden fish or eel inside. Its not the case with Sushi-Ai though. I visited once a year ago and I am a client for life. The service is always professional, familiar, and consistent between the kitchen and the front of the restaurant. All of the food is cooked to order so you dont have to put up with sushi prepared at 1pm served at 6pm or otherwise. That being said the portions and quality are on level with the price. If you are looking to slam down some sushi and fake crab, this is not the place for you. This is the perfect after work date night or Saturday night getaway. They serve all of the typical American drinks but they also have a wide selection of Sake (some of which Ive only seen in Seattle and LA outside of Japan). There is also a house sake which is heated. I was initially concerned by the thought of hot rice wine but it goes well with the spices. On that note the spices are actually quite pleasant and do their job (enhancing the flavor of the subject food, not replacing it). This is another major strength of Sushi-Ai versus other places like Sushi Station or Sushi Para which glob hot mustard onto salmon to fill some obscene craving for fire in your mouth. Sushi Ai is a hidden gem in Palatine or for that matter the Northwest Suburbs. As an added value, certain nights there is live music and other forms of entertainment which Im told will be hosted on a calendar when the new website is launched after a few weeks time.

My husband and I recently moved to the area and were always on the lookout for new sushi places to try because we both LOVE it. We needed to do some shopping in the Palatine area, so we decided to stop and try out Sushi-Ai. At first, it seemed really nice, and their menu had a pretty good selection. We ordered one of their signature rolls, and when it came to the table I almost passed out. We paid $16.00 for three bite sized pieces of what was basically spicy tuna. The atmosphere is great, so if youre looking for a nice place to go for cocktails with friends and you arent going for a full on dinner, this may be the place for you. But for an actual meal, it is completely unreasonable. The service was average, at best, and the food was disappointing. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. There plenty of sushi spots within five minutes that have much better food at half the price.

My boyfriend and I wanted to break out of our regular routine of sushi restaurant.. and we ended up stumbling across this gem! The décor is cute, nothing too exciting except for that samurai to greet you! We sat in the booths by the bar and it had a bright blue lighting that defiantly drew you into the bar. We came on a weekday night so it was fairly slow and was able to get seated right away. Service was awesome, super friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of sushi options, I feel like you cant go wrong on any of them. A standout is the scary spider

It was awesome! The sushi bar was super busy on Valentines Day and the sushi combo we ordered was just super fresh. The presentation of each plate was outstanding. Little candles wrapped in flowers and sliced apples with ginger, beautiful. The service was prompt and polite and the bartender made the drinks strong. Wonderful atmosphere made it feel like we were in a downtown location instead of a strip mall. Dont let the facade fool you. We highly recommend Sushi-Ai!

The sushi was incredible! My boyfriend and I tried the caterpillar, crunchy muffy, and tuna and avocado rolls. They were big portions with very fresh fish! We have been to a lot of sushi restaurants, and this was definitely one of the better ones. The only downside was that our waitress was a little rude, and the music played was a little awkward. The food gets a perfect 5 stars though!

In another review I said there were only two Sushi places in Palatine that I like and this is the first of the two. The owners are amazing, they remember what we like no matter how long its been since our last visit or how busy they are. The food is flown in fresh and you can tell. By far my favorite sushi in the city or the burbs. Great atmosphere and music, the best wait staff.

Im not connoisseur, when it comes to sushi. But I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. My father took me here, to have me try sushi for the first time. Man Alive! I am so grateful for this experience. There was nothing I didnt enjoy. The Green Tea Ice Cream was phenomenal. Just dont forget to cleanse your palette with the ginger.

SLOW service. Waiter mixed up order. Forgot 2 items we ordered. Some of the food was a little too fishy not because it IS fish, but the kind of fishy that makes you wonder about its age. The all you can eat places are better...never going back. Only redeeming quality was the ginger dressing on my salad. Could eat that all day!

Customer service, waitress was nice and they try. Their fish isnt good by normal standards, bad rice too. They charge the same as other places that have a much better quality. Feel bad for saying this but then again; I feel bad for my kids and wife who had to eat this food. We all agreed instantly and left promptly.

4/5 ambiance 5/5 staff interactions 1/5 food I ordered 4 maki rolls as was disappointed with all 4. Even their California roll was off! It was.. somehow greasy..? And overpriced. The place north of Palatine on Quentin is much better priced, and at least 4/5 food-wise.

Very cozy and comfortable place. Seating looks and feels new, the design is great, has private booth as well as open tables. Very pleasant waitresses. I am satisfied with a choice of non-American beer. Semi-romantic dinner with sushi is a possibility.

I went here recently with a group of friends and the food was great! I recommend going here because the service is really good too. It didnt take long to get a seat since it was during the afternoon. The owner was very nice too.

We went here recently with some friends and we all loved it. The staff was nice and the service was generally good, and we all liked pretty much every roll we ordered. We plan to come back here again!
