I really love the idea of this place, I really do. It really should be an easy 5 star rating but the employees try so incredibly hard to frustrate you and prevent you from buying things. The employees constantly seem annoyed when you show up with an interest in spending money on food and drinks. This is a paradox because you would assume that employees would like you buying things, because they get bigger tips, make more money, etc. More humorously, on numerous occasions we have called ahead about the place being open or the kitchen being open, and upon arrival we have discovered numerous times that the place is closed for a private party or that they decided to close the kitchen earlier than they told us over the phone. This is has become comical because we have walked onto the patio watching the cooks starting to throw burgers on the grills and they wont allow us to order a burger (or any food for that matter) because "the kitchen is closed." I am befuddled constantly with their business plan of frustrating me on every occasion when it comes to me ordering food and alcohol. Like for example, I was told by the manager tonight (30 June 2017) that the kitchen was closed upon arrival at 1035pm even though I called ahead about wanting to order food from the kitchen upon my arrival which they agreed was a win-win situation for both of us. Unfortunately, this was a complete lie because we sat down and saw the cooks starting to grill meat, but were told the kitchen closed 20-30 minutes ago, but regardless of that managerial misstep we were told that we were at least allowed to buy chips and Guacamole. Wouldnt you know it--the server didnt want to sell it to us, and then asked the manager for permission to sell it to us. We told her we didnt want guacamole and she sure showed some gusto and initiative by deciding we werent worthy of our chips purchase because she never delivered them. I eventually asked her an hour later about the whereabouts of our chips, and she lamented that the chips were all gone--who could believe that in the midst of summer school in evanston that our precious supply of chips would be extinguished by 1110pm on a Friday night. I realize business management is hard and so is running a restaurant, but one would assume that the only rooftop bar/restaurant in Evanston would want to make some money. #FirstWorldProblems Five & Dime owners and management, please feel free to make some easy fixes and course corrections here

I am a huge foodie and Visit Evanston restaurants frequently. Food here is great but once we reached the upstairs area, no one greeted or spoke to my friend and I. After standing around for several minutes no one thought to ask us to sit down or ask what we needed. After choosing to sit at the bar we observed multiple people come in who got greeted very nicely and attentively. Unfortunately I am assuming that because we were the only people of color there at the time that no one decided to speak to us or even ask if we had a reservation (which we did and later denied) very disappointed at the staff who watched us stand there for minutes at a time and didnt offer us a seat.

The rooftop location adds a fun and unique feature to Evanstons list of dining choices. There are outdoor and indoor games to play. But the food and drink here need work. The limited list of drinks are just so-so. I had a $14 salad that came with two skewers of chicken, which was moist and flavorful. But under the chicken was just a huge mountain of bland lettuce like I could buy in a bag at the Jewel for $2, and very little else. The menu overall is pretty disappointing and overpriced for what you get. Unless the menu options and pricing get better, it is unlikely we’d go back. There are just too many other dining and drinking options in Evanston.

But of a bummer, actually. We ordered the chips + quac, and the signature burger with F&D sauce, along with a couple of cocktails. My wifes margarita didnt seem to have any tequila in it, the chips were oily (a shame since downstairs is a Mexican place about to open from the same owners, so the clearly house made cups should be excellent), and the burger arrived without the F&D sauce. Well likely try this place again, because theyre new, and we figure that theyre still working out the kinks with a new restaurant and new staff, but the food was disappointing. Best thing about this place was the outdoor patio seating.

Delightful outdoor patio and delicious simple menu. We got the nachos and pulled pork sandwich, very good. The potato salad and coleslaw with the sandwich were very tasty too. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced! Tasty cocktails and limited but good local beer selection. Our server was friendly and cheerful. Will be back soon!

I had all three of their desserts and they were all great! The chocolate mocha pot de creme had great contrast in flavor and texture, the flan was smooth and sweet, and the cheesecake was delightfully plated and perfectly sweet and soft!

One of the best bars in all of downtown Evanston. First of all, it is on a rooftop. Second, it is a great location with a unique layout. They have games to play and great drinks. They also have a limited, but flavorful menu!

Fantastic space. Good to very good food. Service is good but can be a little spotty when really busy. A really good place to bring kids if want to lounge for a couple drinks and seem like youre on a date for a bit.

Beautiful, minimal space with a huge outdoor patio/deck. We were there on a nice night which was a plus. Menu is limited and not great for vegetarians. Not sure why a hot dog is on the menu. Decent beer menu.

Beautiful deck from which to enjoy a delicious cocktail. Server was charming & friendly. But its a little pricey....almost 100 bucks for 2 with tip for sandwiches, 3 drinks (total) & appetizers.

Best terrace in Evanston. Need to improve the menu, heavy on the Tex-mex. Dont miss the cocktails!
