My girlfriend came home the other night with a doggy bag from this place. She wanted me to try the salad she paid 13$ for. The salad had a disgusting ball of tuna and pesto sauce in it. It looked like semi digested baby poop. It tasted not very different either. I had to spit out instantly. The chef must have must have thought: "oh! I have a great idea! why dont we get tuna from a can, pesto from a jar, mix and squash the two together, put them in a salad in turd like balls and have people pay good money for it " I was born and raised in Italy, i absolutely love pesto, and i can safely say that that person deserves a rocket up his/her a** for even conceiving this horrific, disgusting, gustily mix. Having people paying for it can only be a joke...

We used to get here more when my Mom was still alive, as it was fairly easy to negotiate with her wheelchair, but it still is one of our much-liked neighborhood spots. They have a very classic menu, which at times even recalls the much-missed Le Perroquet. I must admit that when Ive been there in the past several years Ive not strayed from my favorites, which include the pate, the always-wonderful escargot, and the soup of the day (which can be remarkable). The regular-menu entrees are all traditional and executed quite well (as one would hope for at the price), and if youre into splurging, the desserts might as well be in a bistro in Paris instead of on State Street. They are also quite child-friendly, which is a plus.

O atendimento é excelente. Apesar de ser um bistrô francês, as porções são americanas ou seja, são porções generosas. O ambiente é muito bacana e uma decoração realmente charmosa. Os preços são ótimos. A sopa e demais pratos estavam deliciosos.

Where to start? Except for the "ambiance", nothing to see with a French restaurant. You have the impression to order a "homemade pate" but you have an industrial "mousse"; we didnt touch it! In ordering your wine by the glass, you may think that $12/15 for a French wine by the glass may be a good wine, but not; we tried 3 different ones and didnt finished it... Even the "French" fries are industrial (frozen). At the end, you finished your dinner with a $100 bill for a bad quality food. Stay away!

Sad to see this one time excellent neighborhood restaurant lose it swagger. The menu has changed somewhat and with it Bistrot Zinc has become indefinitely average. The quiche was overcooked, the salad leaves were wilted, the wine list was more expensive but less interesting, and the creme brulee so average. Yes, the restaurant was full on a Friday night but maybe out of habit rather than for the food. They will not see us again.

This is a French restaurant that makes you feel like you belong. Bistro Zinc has a solid menu and wine list with a pleasing presentation and the freshest ingredients. The ambiance is a cross between a Latin Quarter cafe of Paris and a bistro of old Montreal with mosaic-style floors, warm lighting, and open windows in the summer. Its casual with a gourmet flare, their pricing is fair and their creme brulee is a MUST!

we had made reservations for a small group of 10+ ppl and asked for a pre-priced menu in order to facilitate the rest. staff. so what did they do? tried to charge us almost double per person, than the regular menu prices. they said they are too small to accommodate groups and if we wanted to have brunch there, the 9.95 french toast would cost $16 per person. plus 18% gratuity. what a scam!

Love this place and hope they stay around for quite some time. They have great French options and a fun seasonal menu. Brunch is always a great option for a less expensive but good experience. Their dinner is usually filled with older couples and the waitstaff is always friendly. I wish they had a few more of the standard French menu options because I would love to see how they handle them.

Maybe I didnt make the right choices in food, but the Socca with fig jam and sausages was not the best choice, nor was the Bouillabaisse that I ordered as a main. Other people who enjoyed their food ordered soup of the day and the main was one of the day specials that came with mashed potatoe and a crust over vegetables. Dessert was not to the standard of a regular Parisian patisserie

This place was amazing. Yes, dress code but on cold evenings they ask just no jogging pants or pjs and the service is amazing. You might want to reserve a seat but not required. Theyre kind and nice. Always set your fork and knife on the top of your plate aswell! This was fantastic and I recommend Creme Brule!!

The location is great, love the interior and the food is pretty good but service is terrible! I have had bad service here twice. It was so bad the second time that I am unable to bring myself to return. Hope they are able to improve upon this so I can return and enjoy the good food and atmosphere.

Great French bistro with great food, service and decor. I love coming here on a rainy day and having the french onion soup. Its very good and definitely makes the rainy day more enjoyable. Overall, the Zinc offers up great food in a great space that reminds me of France.

This is a wonderful small french style bistro in the Gold Coast. Love the zinc bar, the mirrored walls and leather banquettes. Order the onion soup and a bibb salad for lunch and try the pate to start for dinner. We love this neighborhood jewel!

Underrated spot for brunch. I love their mushroom and Brie crepe. The French toast is great if you want something on the sweeter side. You can also order lunch items if youre not in the breakfast mood. Sadly I havent been here for dinner.

The best french cafe in all of Chicago. The waiters are unbelievably nice. The price is more casual dinner worthy and the food is absolutely fantastic. The decor is based on french cafes in the later 19th century and it is very charming.

Lovely French bistro. If youre looking for an American style eatery with large portions, this is not the place. This is as close to Europe as it gets. Crafted food, great service, very relaxing and romantic. Highly recommend this cafe.

My favorite restaurant in the city. Consistently exceptional quality and presentation with impeccable service at an unbeatable price point. You wont find a better dining experience for brunch/lunch/dinner in Chicago at any price.

Not crowded at all on a Saturday around 10:30am. Very nice waitstaff, intelligentsia coffee, reasonable prices for an upscale restaurant. Omelette was amazing, friends had the french toast and quiche, both loved it.
