People need to understand that La Notte isnt your typical American-Italian cuisine spot. Giovanni, the owner, is from Italy. He has brought not only his recipes straight from his mothers kitchen, but also the philosophy that, if you want great food made from fresh ingredients, its going to take a little bit longer to prepare. Everything here is made to order, so yes, you may have to wait a little bit longer. Thats why, just like in Italy, you order a bottle of wine and converse with those at your table while you wait. If you want to experience REAL Italian food, then this is the only place you have to consider. If this restaurant were in a location with a higher volume of people in the area, then the place would be full every single night. Thats why this place is so special: its accessible. If you live in the city of Chicago, simply take the BNSF Metra Line to Berwyn; youll be hard pressed to find Italian food this good ANYWHERE in the city. So dont allow a few clueless, cranky people to steer you away from his hidden gem. For the simple sacrifice of waiting a bit longer, you get near-perfect Italian food, impeccable service, fantastic recommendations, and an all-around satisfied experience when its over.

We were greeted at the door warmly, by the owner/bartender and the experience was all positive from there on...his son was our waiter, very affable, smart, engaging...offered all specials, good us cocktails, engaged us in small talk to see what we were in the mood for and voila! We ate deliciously-prepared, fresh and authentic Barese Italian food...veal piccata, delicious, tender! Cavatelli with arrabiatta sauce, awesome. Fresh salmon with veggies, served over cappelini, perfect. My sister in law had some kind of pasta bolognese and it was to die for. Seriously awesome folks, well-done presentation, no rush, good wines... We will be going back soon. Wonderful place if you are going to see music at Fitzgeralds on Roosevelt.

Apparently the answer to any question is Its Christmas Eve We have waited 30 minutes for our drinks? Its Christmas Eve Is our food coming soon its been over an hour since we ordered? Its Christmas Eve We didnt get all our entrees at the same time? Its Christmas Eve You brought us our appetizer but no sauces? Its Christmas Eve They had 2 waiters for the entire restaurant and was actually told by the waiter when we wanted to order that we could not because he had 5 other tables. Owner walked away from me during conversation. Will never be back and you should not either

Been there 3 times, always good until tonight. Took forever for the dinner to arrive, waiter and owner chatting at their table. Finally got dried out dinners on hot plates that must have sat under the heat lamps for 20-30 minutes. We sent them back, sat there another half an hour and got to hear about how hard it is to cook that type of fish. They really should be embarrassed, ruined our evening, and we could have spent half the money at a cheap pizzeria that actually cares what they put in front of people. We wont be back.

Saying that La Notte Cafe is among the best Italian cuisine in the Chicago area is not overstatement. Visit after visit, they keep surprising me with not only amazing Italian staples but to one of the best food experiences Ive had. The prices are very affordable and the wine selection is fine. The decor could use an upgrade and the service can use some wine instruction but that didnt stop us of having a wonderful visit. One quick anecdote, my father dislikes "heavy" food , and he was very impressed and satisfied with La Notte.

Such a gem!!! Amazing Italian restaurant, the owner and son are so warm, welcoming and friendly. Food is great with nice portions, they have fresh pastas and all dishes are super customizable. They will even cook you Italian dishes not on the menu!! Drinks are great and the ambience is perfect. I would come here at least once a month for dinner. Some dishes are a little pricier than expected but its honestly worth the service and quality of food. Positive experience in every way

What service! I cant believe it took me this long to dine here living so close. Everyone is extremely polite and know the food they serve. So feel free to ask for help. Food was made fresh to order, drinks made perfect. They do offer a lunch menu at reduce prices, $230 for four adults with apps, entrees, desert and drinks.

Food is FABULOUS...family-run Italian restaurant, easy street parking, full service bar & great wine selection...hard to NOT go to La Notte when we are in town from Indianapolis. We hosted a dinner party for 25 and were treated like royalty... Ask about the WINE dinners! Each course is pared with a different wine...

Good food and service. Giving four stars due to the first time I went and there was a piece of plastic in my entree (from a container maybe, like the kind you pull off to break off a sealed lid?). Since then Ive only ordered take out (mostly soups and sandwiches) and have had good experiences.

I honestly have no idea how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars. This is my favorite Italian restaurant. I moved out of the area but keep coming back a few times every year. The owner always seems to be there and is a really nice guy.
