Alcove Coffee is worth a trip for the view alone. Combined with decent coffee drinks and a nice variety of food, it is a solid addition to the Snellville/Lilburn area that is bereft of caffeine dispensing cafes. That being said, I can only give this place 3 stars due to the horrible customer service and strange rules I have experienced over and over again. Examples: - If there is a line of customers, they will make each individuals drinks before they will take the next order. This often leads to awkward waiting around in the bar area, and customers who cannot go ahead and find a seat while they wait for their order. Often times, the baristas will not even acknowledge your presence in these situations. I understand that they can be busy, but even a simple, "I will be with you in a moment" would be appreciated. - If you have a laptop, you are not permitted to sit by the windows during certain hours and will be asked to move. I understand the reasoning, but this applies even when there is no one else there. - They will shut off the wifi without warning. For example, it was 15 minutes until closing and I was working on a online quiz that would only take 5 minutes. Without an announcement, the wifi was shut down and I lost all my work. I was pretty upset, but took the hint and left. Regardless, an announcement would be appreciated. - There is no free tap water. You must buy bottled water. I have never been to a coffee shop where this was even an issue. - There are no posted weekday hours. The hours online are all incorrect. Oddly enough, the weekend hours are posted on the door. (They close at 8 PM on weekdays by the way). All in all, it gives the overall impression that you are not welcome and they are trying to save money anyway they can. I come here because it is the only place this side of Snellville to get decent coffee. But honestly, if you do come here, get a simple drink, go outside and enjoy the view of the deck, and then go home. Anything more than that and its simply not worth it.

As a former employee of this establishment, I would not recommend contributing to this business due to the way it is run. I experienced multiple restaurant health code violations during my time there. Although told to wear coverings on hair during food preparation, this rule was never enforced through lack of mentioning the issue or providing hats/hairnets for employees. This has resulted in complaints of hair being found in customer food orders, followed by the offering of a free beverage as to have the customer remain silent about the issue. The owner of this establishment was present in the shop nearly everyday, multiple days in which she claimed to be contagiously sick, though continued to prepare food and coffee with minimal hand/mouth coverage. Just recently she came down with a "flu", claiming that she was far too contagious to even come to work, though showed up anyway and proceeded to touch the majority of supplies necessary for food preparation. Also, the rules against open toed shoes in a food based establishment are often disregarded, some employees going as far as not wearing shoes at all with no penalty. As far as employee safety was concerned, the owner never seemed to care much past her own benefit. A couple months ago a man that made the entire staff team of women very uncomfortable by his sexually inquisitive manner, along with his after hours loitering and the owners claim to him being a con artist, was present in the shop almost everyday. Although the owner expressed dire concern of his presence and labeled him as a threat, no actions were taken on her part to rid the work environment of such potential danger. Additionally, the majority of the pastries claimed to be from a "local bakery" are brought in from local grocery stores, a fact that the staff team was pressured by the owner to conceal. This business has lost customers in my family and close circle due to the lack of care taken

I absolutely loved my drink. It was THE BEST. Im never going back. I walked in with my boyfriend after hearing good things from my sister. We sat down at a window seat as there were only maybe five people in there. He was intending on having a meeting, but that idea didnt go very far. We were intending on getting some lunch after he had his short meeting. I walked up and ordered a drink, paid for it, and sat down. I ended up moving to a separate table so he could have his meeting. We were in there less than five minutes when the barista approached us and apologized in the most sarcastic tone and the continued to inform us that we only bought one drink and we were taking up two tables. She said that she is conducting a business and not an internet cafe. I informed her we were planning on getting lunch after the meeting. She said that we needed to buy something as soon as we walked in and sat down. After all if we wanted the place to stay open we couldn’t be treating it like a public library that offered free wifi. A couple minutes later a gentleman made the mistake of trying to sit at a "lunch table” and was informed that he couldn’t sit there if he only bought coffee. After she left us I went out to the car. Less than five minutes later my boyfriend accompanied me in the car and told me that she had asked him yet again to buy something or leave. When he told her that the individual that he was meeting wanted coffee she tried to get him to stay, but he walked out. I have never received such horrible customer service. I completely understand needing to run a small business. I am a waitress and so I understand working in the service industry too. If I ever treated a customer like that I would be fired. Treating your customers like that is not the way to keep customers, it is the way to loose them.

Alcove Coffee
As per the last review I saw posted here recently, I would like to address some of my own issues with Alcove Coffee. Hello, I used to be a frequent visitor of Alcove Coffee, and I can tell you all that the only reason I ever visited the establishment was because the drinks were free, because almost every time, there was a mistake made or a strand of hair in my coffee, causing it to be unsanitary (in particular, the young woman who had multi-colored hair). I have had more than one interaction with the owner of this coffee house, and every time I have inquired about why my drinks have been filled with either hair or sub-par coffee, she blows off the issue and quickly offers me a new one, rather the solving the issue. Also, this same owner, while knowing that I am a regular visitor, has kicked me out for supposedly "not buying anything and loitering" while in fact, I had already purchased and consumed my drink. I would never recommend this coffee shop, as the entire establishment is poorly run, unsanitary, and unlike other restaurants who may have the same characteristics, does not have the quality of food to back it up.

Tl;dr: Good coffee but dont be in a hurry. Coffee: 4 Overall the coffee was pretty good. Will probably go back as long as I have plenty of time. Speed of service: 1 There was no one in line when our group of 3 went to order. We ordered 3 drinks, 2 baked goods and a yogurt. It took over 30 minutes to get everything. Customer service: 3 The barista was quite friendly however she took one persons order from our group then as the next person started to order she cut them off and filled 2 refills who had walked up beside us before coming back to the register. There also seemed to be no order to which drinks they made. They made 2 other orders who came up and ordered after us (in addition to the 2 refills) before completing our drinks . Ambiance: 5 One of the quaintest coffee shops around with probably the best view in the area. Overall 4: May or may not go back, I wouldnt go out of my way to come here.
