Our usual BBQ place was closed for the night and, aching for our BBQ fix, we decided to try out Southern Smoq BBQ. Walking in to pick up our order, I had high hopes - the place looks nice and was busy even right before close. I grabbed my order then decided to go around to the ordering area again to grab dessert on a whim. It seems no one really notices you when you stand there. So I left, put the food Id already ordered in the car, then came back. After a little more waiting, someone finally noticed me and I could put in my order. Three banana puddings. It wasnt until I got home that I realized we were not only missing an entire meal (guess I wont be able to tell you how the ribs taste) but we were missing every single side of mac and cheese across all of the orders. Thats two more, not including the one that should have come with the ribs that... we didnt receive. How could I have left an entire entree behind? Well, it wasnt bagged at all. I was handed two bags with three black boxes and we had ordered three meals (the mysterious third box contains one of the two sides from the missing meal). No one confirmed anything with me like they do at other restaurants ("This is your rib plate, this is your turkey, etc). So it was only upon getting home that we discovered the error. So we called. Good news, the food is still there! Bad news? Unfortunately, by now the restaurant is already closed and we are given an option: refund the missing food or come in on Wednesday to pick up the missing food. Come in on Wednesday? Its Saturday night. I know you arent even open again until Wednesday but that is quite frankly, a ridiculous suggestion. Paying regular price for a three day wait is a little beyond me and I dont understand how someone would even suggest that. At all. So in the end, we get two thirds of a meal and a weak apology over the phone. The food is good, at the very least, but no better or worse than what we would have gotten at our usual spot. I wanted to love this place with its glowing reviews but its the poor service that has driven me away from this restaurant for good.

Well, I gotta hand it to these guys. They know how to do BBQ. Ive been going there often over the last year, and his recipe and cooking process for brisket is right on point. He even has burnt ends, but you gotta ask for it. His other BBQ is great too, but I keep going back for the brisket because it is so tender and pulls apart easily with a fork. He has a variety of sauces, but I like the original the best. All of them are good...just depends on your tastes. I took a couple of friends, one from Texas, today, and he concurs. This is the closest to authentic Texas BBQ youll find anywhere in the vicinity. Oh, and BTW, their sides are nothing to sneer at. I am very particular about my potato salad and my baked beans. Theirs is outstanding. And for the record, I have no vested interest in this business and dont even know these people. It is just one of those places well worth the praise and one of my favorite places to go out to eat. Well done Gentlemen! And now I hear they are catering the Atlanta Falcons draft party tonight.

Ignore the people rating one star like the idiot Tony Goddard who was upset that its 2016 and he still doesnt have a GPS to find the place. His one star rating should be on his navigational skills. He didnt even find the place so his star clearly isnt a rating on the food. Also - to all the people butthurt that you have to pay a little more than your precious $1 McDonalds meals that youre used to for actual real meat - this place isnt for you. Hahaha @ Tony the idiot rating a one star because he couldnt get directions there. Boo hoo. Give me your address and Ill mail you a 50 cent paper map, a pacifier, and some Kleenex for your tears. This place is awesome. Really glad to have this place in flowery branch. I wish their schedule had them open more often. If you go there to eat ask them at the counter what sauces they have made special that arent out on the floor. The cooks are always making new sauces that are great.

Theres no two ways about it. This place is the best. Ive had a lot of barbeque in my life. And I mean a lot... But nothing comes close to the fantastic and memorable great taste of Southern Smoq. For a long time I had put off eating here imagining it to be mediocre and expensive, but how wrong I was! This place is not only substantially better tasting than any other barbeque in the area (or the state, I reckon) but has prices that make you feel as good as the food! Having tried everything from the slow cooked brisket sandwich to the sticky ribs, this all in-house one of a kind BBQ joint is the real deal. You will get more than what you pay for, and youll end up paying for more! Not too crowded and with ever-improving customer service, this place is going to be a hit. Dont miss out on the great taste and authentic experience. It really is the best!

The lean brisket was OUTSTANDING!I think I ate half of Noahs ark,I got the sampler with two sides for 16 bucks. It came with double brisket( we came late in the day and they had run out of sausage),chicken wing, turkey, pork, and "sticky" ribs (2).sides were slaw and potato salad. They have 4 sauces to choose from... (1)a sweet that was tomato based made with peaches brown sugar and molasses,(2)another tomato based made with coffee that my wife loved!(3)the third was a spicy mustard/vinegar base and (4) last was a North Carolina style vinegar/red pepper flakes sauce.Im sad to report after the amount I ate I had no room for any of the home made desserts.first time we tried this BBQ joint even though I know it was in a different location near by.WE WILL RETURN.As most any BBQ places expect to spend $30/$40 for a good size meal.

I have chased BBQ from GA to TX stopping in AL and MS on the way. This is the best BBQ Brisket, Pork, and chicken that I have found. It is simply the best. Only improvement would be some awesome vegetables other than fries and Okra and maybe a bit of dessert. But, you can eat more Brisket for dessert and the Okra is my favorite. The twice cooked chicken wings are fantastic too. Not sure what I think is wrong with this place. I smoke my own brisket and pork at home at times and wish I knew the secret. When I want BBQ, I go to Southern Smoq...I have to give credit to my friends at Panoz who took me here the first time to try it. I keep going back... There are other great BBQ restaurants in Braselton. Try them all and see what you think.. Bill Orr

My husband and I have tried this BBQ place once. We really enjoyed the food and we will go back. The sticky and dry coat ribs were very good, a bit dry, but they had a nice flavor. The fried okra was to die for. I was a bit disappointed that they were out of Mac and Cheese right at prime dinner time and we were told it would be a 30 to 40 minute wait if we wanted it. However, I was pleased with the collard greens we got instead. Hopefully they will make some minor improvements the longer they are there. The atmosphere and food were worth coming back. The staff, cleanliness(the floors were oh so sticky), and organization can be fixed.
