For me, The Breezeway was always one of those restaurants that I passed by and wondered about, but never really felt compelled to try. Situated in the heart of downtown Sanford, they have a prime location for both indoor and outdoor dining, with a full outdoor bar that often features live entertainment. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and found myself drinking and eating in their outdoor area. Although it was a very hot day, their signature breezeway was shaded and cooled by fans, and it offered the perfect spot to take a break and grab a drink. The service was excellent - we were brought menus and ordered drinks within minutes of seating ourselves, and our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered several different beers, as well as some mixed drinks (The Grand and a Mojito), and I was pleasantly surprised by their strength. The food was standard bar fare, which I expected and was the main reason Id never really made a point to stop in previously. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and they were crispy and flavorful, served with a bold ranch sauce. I understand that a lot of places serve fried foods on a bed of lettuce to soak up some of the grease, but there was a lot of lettuce underneath this dish and it felt kind of wasteful. I ordered the garlic wings as my main dish and was satisfied with them. They were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the garlic flavor was not overpowering. While I can see myself bringing friends here to grab a drink and some standard pub grub, I didnt find the food to be anything to go out of my way for. The location, atmosphere, great drinks and friendly staff definitely put The Breezeway higher on my list for a casual hangout spot, though.

Okay, my opinion only , I live close by and had on several occasions been able to try this dining experience ,,, under ideal circumstance the food is per-pared, and served in a pleasingly amount of time , in abundant and tasteful proportion , done just right ,,, now on the other hand this experience has not been consistent ,,, unfortunately there appears to be some internal upheaval , in the operations, that is therefore presented in the behavior of the floor staffing , and ultimately brought to the table,, making a potentially great dining experience into a somewhat dark comical show effecting the presentation , quality of service and food quality, more often than not the food is served in the longest amount of time you ever will be served affecting food quality and enjoy ability, the problems seem due to poor upper management , the wait staff is very kind and apologetic, embarrassed to be put in the middle , more than once the wait staff has been witnessed to try to correct a bad situation , with an unacceptable loud audible response from the managers / owners , negativity ,,,, to me the concept is good , and the wait staff great , it would be troubled managements negativity that hinders quality functions ,,,,, sorry but thank -you ,,,,,

I usually do not give a 5 star , in this case there was a serious team effort to satisfy the customers ,,, with a skeleton floor crew, serving two areas that were 60% full , 2 ladies serving, and one of the two working 2 bars , talk about multi - tasking ,,,, Great job ladies ,,,, Mondays are usually slow downtown therefore scheduling a skeleton crew , and because of the recent storm the kitchen s order was delivered late in the day , a lot of issues to contend with , the kitchen and the servers , worked like champs to get it done and they did it ,,, The food served was very good ,,,

Went this weekend because our original pick was closed. Im so thrilled that it was. I got the grouper, blackened with the Abaco Sauce. It is worth the $4 up charge! I was so happy with my meal! The only thing that was a disappointment was that they dont have a separate fryer for shellfish allergies. My boyfriend couldnt even get fries with his sandwich, so that kind of sucked. His Reuben with pastrami was huge, but average. He definitely enjoyed my dinner selection better. Ill return for more, just wish I could go back on a date night without the fear of sending my boyfriend into anaphylactic shock.

As soon as I walked thru the glass doors to the hallway leading to the bathrooms I knew it wasnt going to be a good experience. The doors were filthy and that is always a sign of what to expect on the other side. The hallway is cluttered with stuff from the restaurant (get a storage unit - dont use the hallway) and the bathrooms are dirty. From the walls to the floors it needs a major cleaning or renovation. Yuck - makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like! I really want to like this place with its great outdoor space, but someone needs to place closer attention to the important details.

What a wonderful place, nestle by several bohemian stores. The atmosphere is laid-back, great rock music, that makes your feet move to the tempo like a metronome. Service, friendly and considerate of patrons needs. Our fish portions for the price were generous, cooked to perfection. However, the fries are at the other end of the spectrum. They were warm, with a texture of having been cooked hours ago, and microwaved just before being place on the plate next to the fish sandwich. The lack of care for the fries averted our fish sandwiches from being spectacular.

The food was great but the service was extremely poor. We had never been here before so I look up the hours on Google, their website and the menu provided on the website which all said that closing was at 10 pm. We get there at 9 pm and are told that they are closed after glancing at the takeout menu that also says 10 they reluctantly seat us. There were servers sitting at the bar doing nothing and the attitude did not improve. We were actually out of there before all the other tables that were seated before we had arrived.

Food is good however it always (4 times now) takes forever for the food to come out. Twice we had to get up to leave after waiting over an hr after our order was placed. The owners response "Let me know the next time you are in so you have a better experience." Really? I have to announce that I have arrived in order to get good service. Not to mention he can usually be found drinking at the end of the bar while his staff falls further into the weeds. Clearly does not have a (strong) restaurant background.

Nice place, good atmosphere and even better food. Arrived with a party of four at 6:30 before crowd settled in on a Thursday. Chose to eat inside. Service was exceptionally good. Calamari was spicy but cooked perfectly. Mahi dishes were done beautifully. Still looking for a good joint to get a superior lump crab cake in East Central Florida, but the crab cakes were tasty and acceptable (we prefer our cakes largely lump crab with little fill). We will recommend to friends and return.
