I was looking for a local, non-chain place to have breakfast and settled on Johhny Grits. The decor is a bit more upscale than your usual breakfast place. I like it. The prices seemed high to me, at least until my meal came until I saw the meals of others. The prices seem justified given the quality of the food and the portions. The guy next to me had eggs Benedict and it looked good, gourmet level and substantial. Biscuits looked good - would like to try them on a future visit. Same goes for a mother and daughter a few tables down for me - in terms of what the food looked like - quality ,gourmet looking, big portions. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was excellent - good quality, crispy bacon and well fried, hot but soft fried green tomatoes. I wished there was more lettuce, however. There was very little lettuce. Having it on the sandwich is more of a texture thing than a taste thing. I would have given this place 4 stars except for two things a) the slow service at times and b) the severely lacking mac & cheese. I had to ask for the check after waiting for some time, never got a water refill and could have had one more coffee refill. Two more wait staff arrived when I was there, but the one wait staff was way too busy when it was just her - too much for one person to handle, at least in my opinion. The staff were super friendly and doing their best. For a restaurant of this quality I expect better choices for for the coffee cream - not just international house stuff but real cream. The real disappointment was the mac and cheese, for which there was an upcharge. It came in a cast iron skillet and was a huge portion. I understand the concept of al dente, but the noodles were under-cooked, too hard. There was cheese melted on the top. But then the noodles were sitting on top of a rich yet watery milky sauce. It was lacking in cheese. I had to stir the water sauce to get it to cover the noodles. It struck me as the beginning of a good recipe, but it needed more cheese, a thickened sauce integrated better with the noodles, and noodles cooked just a little bit more. The other dishes I saw being served looked so good I may try this place again - but not the mac & cheese.

I honestly wish I didnt have to give even one star to post this review. My friend and I placed a to go order and were told to come pick it up in 5-10 minutes. We did exactly that. It was obviously busy so we were waiting for awhile when we got there. Which would have been totally understandable if there werent four different waitresses that passed by us numerous times without acknowledging we were standing there. Finally one of them asked if we were being helped. We told her no. At which point she said that there was a specific waitress that had to ring up our order. So we waited. Service wasnt great, but hey, the food will be right? WRONG. One of the orders was wrong; my friend requested no bun due to an allergy. Sandwich was on a bun. My chopped Greek salad which was listed on the menu as "Amazing" was a cup and a half of wilted romaine lettuce, two cherry tomatoes chopped in half, and a sprinkle of some questionable feta and olive mixture. For $10, this was more than a huge disappointment. My friend took her order back to get it corrected and when she asked them to make it again, they simply pulled the chicken off the bun and slapped a new piece of cheese on it. I requested a refund for the salad. Wont be dining here ever.

Great little place. Clean, friendly staff. Not saying the staff was clean. The place was clean. Well, the staff was clean too. Anyhow, this place has some personality when you walk in. There is a little bar area (I think they only serve wine, not sure) and a wall to wall chalkboard with different menu items and specials listed. I ordered a blackened shrimp salad. Just what I needed! Not too big, but just right and delicious. Kids loved the waffles and the attention they got from the server. Prices were quite reasonable. Id come back here again if I were in the neighborhood.

Went here for a birthday party , we reserved the whole left side of the place. It was a good size. The food was great and pricing wasnt too bad ($$) for a breakfast joint. The only complaint that I had was when we went to set up for the party (at our reserved time) there was some stray diners that were sat in our area so we had to "work " around them, I felt bad but they shouldnt of placed diners in a party "reserved" section, for the diners sake.

Went here with my parents on Valentines Day. We were able to come right in and sit at the bar. The staff was very friendly and Leah was our excellent server and made great recommendations. My dad had the fried chicken Benedict, my mom had their classic shrimp and grits with the andouille sausage and I had their French toast special ... We all tried everything and it was all AMAZING. Cant say it enough... Go eat here!!!!

Good food but super long waits! This place is great for breakfast! They have the best unique grit skillets ever; very yummy! The only problem with this place is that it is too small for the amount of people who know how good the food is so get there early or be prepared to wait a long time and there is barely any place to wait other than outside in the hot sun. Please get a bigger location!!

I come here a lot to eat by myself. But the last two times I came no one payed much attention to me when I walked through the door, and a couple walked in after me and got seated before me. No one said hey hows it going. Just saying maybe pay a little more attention? I know you guys are busy but just say youll be with me in a moment and Id be happy to wait 10 minutes.

The food is pretty good, our waitress was forgetful. We ordered a side of turkey bacon with our meal Saturday which was forgotten untill about 1/2 way through the meal and then what came out was 2 shriveled peices of dry looking peices of leather. Not asking for that again. Bit crowded but not overly packed. Wait was about 2 minutes for a table

Definitely not southern. Their grits are made with and taste like water. So if youre from the south or like The Flying Biscuit youll be disappointed, but if you like bland chicken and waffles you could make at home its your spot. Oh but the service was great, very sweet and attentive and their sweet potato pancakes were pretty good.

I cannot say enough positive things about this place. The food is unreal, the service is top notch, the decor is perfect, yeah, I can go on and on. The breakfast bowls are great. The chicken and waffles makes me wish that I was born in the South, just so that I could have enjoyed this dish since I was a lad.
