Im always interested to find the quiet and subtle places to chew. So, when my family and I stumbled upon Cafe Bastille while walking in Miami during a weekend trip, one look inside said, "Here." First. Youre in Miami, so set your expectations. Not everything is going to be Provence or Rhone valley, but the spirit of French bistro is alive and well here. The food preparation and portion is thoughtful. Not small, but not too big. The quality of the ingredients was excellent and the attention to preparation was clear. Flavors are "layered" and not overpowering such as the Ahi Tuna Tartar with capers. The French Onion Soup had bold and distinct flavors that certainly would fit in well on a cold damp day or the well A/Ced interior of the bistro. My other offspring had a prosciutto sandwich with pickled onions and melon which Mr. Picky 13 Year Old Eater enjoyed. By the way, the seating is close but thats bistro for you. My only regret was that I could not go back the next day for the Ravioli and find a good wine to go with it. Coming from a family that ran a 5 star Michelin restaurant in DC and having consumed across the U.S. from San Fran to Boston. Service is relaxed paced but considerate. What was the bill like? I dont remember and didnt care. This was an enjoyable experience.

VERY GOOD FOR BREAKFAST! DECOR: Simple and clean. They have maps made of cork framed on their walls. Nice decor. FOOD: We ordered hot chocolate and parisien omelette served with ham, cheese and mushrooms, potato wedges and bread. It was delicious! I wanted to eat crepes after reading its reviews on Yelp. On asking, the attendant gave me a separate menu and mentioned that only sweet crepes were available in the morning. But no regrets, I loved the parisien omlette :) SERVICE: We were attended by an old gentleman. He was so polite and humble. Very nice person. PRICE: Reasonable. For 2 hot chocolates and the omlette, our total was $17 without tips (ofcourse, two of us shared the omlette) Please note: The breakfast menu is totally different and there are no crepes in the breakfast menu. If you would like to eat crepes, please visit Cafe Bastille after noon.

Food OK, but a rip-off unless you stick to the menu items, and the service is more rude than than what you get in Paris! I ordered 2 eggs any style, with an extra egg, i.e. 3 eggs. Server brought a side plate with 2 more eggs, and made it sound like they made a mistake, but then I was charged 4 dollars for it. When I asked, he says thats how they do it. Also, a single small slice of bread came with the meal, and I asked for another slice, without saying anything he brings a "side plate" of some bread and butter/jelly, which I didnt ask for, and they charge me another $3.50 for that. Overall, food was OK but getting blatantly and rudely ripped off leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I have had the good fortune to have several meals here over the past few weeks (Sept-Oct 2010) and I have never been disappointed. The food is exceptionally good. The primary chef (Keith) is a tour de force, trained in France. He has a keen sense of how to put great dishes together, and I encourage anyone to give in whatever he has specially created that day. I have eaten at great restaurants all around the country and this bistro easily competes with the very best in terms of quality of the dishes. And after the food has settled, the deserts are a must (esp the white chocolate bread pudding).

I was in town for a conference at the nearby Hyatt Regency and wandered into this intimate bistro for dinner. I cant think of a better endorsement than to say I had nearly every meal here for the 4 days that I was in Miami. The food is super high quality and very affordable. The chef came out to see that we were pleased with his creations which added a personal touch you dont find too often. The servers were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back and informal. 2 big time thumbs up! Dont pass up the chance to have a fantastic dining experience in downtown Miami!

I had the worse experience at a restaurant ever!! Everything seemed normal until halfway through. My wife discovered an insect on her steak!!! I understand that accidents happen but the owner and waitress were completely unapologetic and even argued with my father-in-law when he was demanding they take all my wifes food of the bill!! I was in disbelief. They wouldnt take responsibility at all. It was like the owner was insinuating we put the insect there ourselves!!! He kept saying it was "impossible" for that to happen denying that reality that was right in front of us!!!

Did not have a good experience here. Its a very cute place with a great atmosphere, however the service was not good. The server messed up almost everyones order and then they wouldnt let us pay individually (with a group of 8). Dont go in there with a party of more than 3 people. Then they told us we could only split a check three ways. It took almost 45 minutes of going back and forth and misinformation for them to figure out a way for us to pay for our food.

Wonderful experience in a sweet setting, with attentive friendly service. Group of four enjoyed dinner. Dishes were well prepared with attention to detail. Ingredients tasted farm fresh. Enjoyed salmon baked in phyllo. An outstanding dish was curry seasoned chicken & pasta, cooked in rich cream sauce. The tiger shrimp & linguini in a pomodoro sauce was wonderful & had a generous pieces of perfectly tender cooked shrimp.

Nice little hidden gem! Breakfast was great. They had a good breakfast menu, indoor and outdoor seating, very nice ambiance. A little small, and tables were very close to each other, but it was still nice. Our waiter gave us great service, and food was out quickly, but it took a little bit longer that expected to receive the tab, and we were on a time crunch, but other than that, great place! Def coming back here :)

Huge menu for a French Cafe. Ive been there a couple of times and each time during the day because I work downtown. The prices are fair. I had the croque madame yesterday and it was great. The bread pudding is to die for! The owner told me he wants to up the dinner crowd so if you show them your resident ID, youll get 20% off after 7PM. Theyre also doing daily happy hour, but they only serve beer and wine...

The worst service we have ever experienced! With all the amazing breakfast and brunch spots, I would avoid this one like the plague. We sat down immediately and some one put a placemat and silverware at our spots. After almost a half hour of waiting and trying to track someone down we never were served. Absolutely the worst place in downtown Miami. After walking out, I would never recommend this to anyone.

The service was amazing but the food Was underwhelming. I had the Spanish omelette, the chorizo was bland and tasted like it came from a freezer, the egg was too over cooked for an omelette, the best part of the breakfast was the piece of bread.... I dont know what the rave is about? Save yourself some time and money and walk a block over to LaProvence. Sincerely yours, The Foodie.
