My girlfriend and I live in Victoria park and were out on a bike ride that extended into rio vista to 17th st. We got hungry and all I had was my phone with a paypal app that showed the restaurants in the area. China Lui came up so we rode our bikes over. The owner seemed to be in a bad mood. We ordered our food and waited. Since we were on the bikes we wanted to eat there. He didnt want us to stay an eat because he said it was close to closing time. Keep in mind it was 8:30 pm. Therefore his attitude sucked, the food was cold and the spring role was partly frozen. So if your closing that early you must not be doing that good of business. I would never go back.

I have been taking out food at China Lui since 1985 almost every week but am not sure I will go back. The ownership changed and now it seems to be like every other Chinese take out place. Not special any more. The ginger chicken wings are not crispy and not spiced like before. The Chicken Chow Mein is tasteless. Curry Chicken is off menu. We ordered online and then 5 minutes later received a text message that our order would take 50 minutes more. What!?! Its Monday night. Not as good as before.

This not your super fancy Chinese place with all the decor but the food is great. I usually get the walnut shrimp but we also get random things as well and we havent had a bad meal here yet. Been going for about 2 years now. Well worth it if you want good food from a small hole in the wall.

I agree with the other one star reviews. Since Raymond left, the place has spiraled into crappy Chinese fare. They removed the BEST things on the menu and nothing is like it HAS been, since the 80s. Why change a good thing? I suspect Raymond sold the place, NOT his recipes. Save your money.

Rice wasnt well cooked or flavorful and the chicken under cooked! I was staying at comfort suites hotel and ordered delivery. I guess if you need to survive and have no option, then try this place other wise steer clear! Such a waste of 9.00 , plus tip.. Yuck!!

Speedy service although I think only one person was working there. I ordered the hot and sour soup and it was excellent. Full of great tofu and lots of veggies, not at all something I wouldve expected from their humble appearance.

I had to lower my review because I started noticing food quality had gone down. Also the entrance area does not seem clean. I would suggest maybe owners investing in that area and keeping floors walls clean.
