The crabs were delicious, the service was a bit of a magic act - we saw our server twice then POOF we were given an aloof female server. When we asked her for refills on our Lemonade and Iced Tea she told us "we" would not get refills on our Tea and Lemonade (after she brought out pitchers of tea refills for the other tables) . We werent sure if it was because the waitress was lazy or something else.... (it was very awkward and uncomfortable.) She continued to bring tea and lemonade refills to the other tables after telling us "no". The crab was delicious (my husband did a fabulous job of cracking all of our crabs so that we could access the meat) My aunt enjoyed the shrimp skewer, and the corn on the cob was tasty. The kids meal portions were quite large . I personally liked the seasoning mixed with the butter to dip my meat in. I would suggest that anyone dining here with children, considering bringing crayons to keep them entertained. Also, pack snacks. They bring everything out at once (its a mountain of crabs and if you have someone who KNOWS what theyre doing, you will get a mountain of meat.) until they bring the crabs, you will be waiting....and waiting....and waiting......(they wont flip out if your baby gets cranky,) They DO allow adults to order from the kids menu - one of the adults in our party is a ridiculously picky eater, and they allowed them to order a grilled cheese. I dont know if we will ever be back since we live in Texas and we were only in town for a reunion, however if we ever get the chance to go back, I would love to dine here again on crabs with my family. (Ill just be sure to ask my waiter to bring me two glasses of tea before he morphs into a female waitress that belongs on Seinfield; "No tea for you!") ****it didnt feel hot to us, but were from Texas.**** They were seating strangers next to each other which can be cool, or uncomfortable.***

Whether you want crabs or crab legs, this is the place. I am a Marylander who grew up on crabs, but the Surfing Crab is hands down the best place on this half of DE. The quality of the crabs and legs are priced fairly good compared to any place around the Sussex Cty area. I made my first trip to Lazy Susans after reading the reviews. I have to say, I wasnt impressed at all. Crabs and legs have to be cooked just right as well as shrimp, and sorry DE, but most of you dont have it mastered. When folks are paying a decent penny, dont let them down, the owner takes the beating, loses customers, and no one wants to leave a good tip for food that isnt cooked properly. So dont let them down either. Surfing Crab, hands down you are the best. I sincerely hope you keep your standards high. All of our out of town company loves coming there each and every time they visit. We usually have the same female waitress, who has always been great. The one fella does need a little work on waitering. Customers dont want you down their back, but they do like to see you occasionally for refills and and stuff.

I got fish and chips and my fiancé got shrimp skewers and seasonal veg. My fish were tasteless fish fingers. Not the whole side of fish you get at most places. Also the breading was tasteless. The fries (chips?), were obviously thawed and deep fried. If you are going to call them "chips", they better not be your basic fry. My fiancé got the shrimp skewer with a side of seasonal veg. I had a bite of her shrimp and despite the butter and old bay, it was rather unimpressive. I didnt bother having any of her veg, because they didnt look that great either. This is obviously a place where you want to go to get crabs (yes, I said that). 7 of the 8 groups in our dining area got crabs (we were the eighth). The others got at least a dozen per group. The menu board said the small crabs (6" or so) cost $65 per dozen. The service was friendly but average. The food was overpriced and reheated, but if youre looking for a place to get crabs, this might be your place.

I called on Saturday to reserve 2 dozen $80.00 crabs. Sunday they call to confirm, while chatting with the person I asked if we could get the crabs cleaned ( easily done in NJ ) and got a curt NO, ok, do you have garlic or flavored crabs, again NO. We hung up and I looked at my wife as the call was on my cell speaker and we both made a face. We were treating her sisters and broth-in-law and it turns out Mark did not want crabs. When we arrived @ 3 pm I told our waiter we might not need 2 dozen and Ill get a head count soon. He tells the cook who sounds like hes not happy about the change and the next thing that happens is the waiter telling me "you must take the 2 dozen, he started paralyzing them". Really, all 24 crabs, its 3 pm, he will have allot of customers. I let it go, he was not going to spoil our dinner, in the end we had 3 crabs left, they went home. WATCH what you order in this place!!

We ordered a dozen large steamed crabs. When they said their price for a doz large was $60.00 I had to swallow real hard. We bit the bullet and bought them. We actually brought them home to eat them. They were piping hot and seasoned perfectly (Louisianna crabs). Big, fat and sweet. They were so full and heavy we could only eat 3 1/2 each. The next day I picked out the crab meat and had enough to make four large crab cakes. Plus, hubby ate his legs cold the next day. Now the $60 price tag isnt too bad, considering we got 3 1/2 meals out of them. I hope they do well, but their prices are very high ($4.95 for a basket of fries) for us lower, slower Delaware folks. Perhaps Bethesda people are used to paying these prices, but not us. I do want to try the soft crabs - they looked WONDERFUL coming outta the fryer !!!!

I went here memorial weekend, on a Saturday night. I had 3 kids and a friend of mine. The kids food came out just a few minutes after we ordered it. They had crayons and chalk for the kids to draw on the papered tables. Our crabs were unbelievable, they were the best crabs Ive ever had. The server was very friendly, and helpful, and made sure our kids were taken care of. I will go back as often as I can, It was an overall great experience. I recommend it highly, even when they are busy, they dont seem overloaded. Atmosphere was perfect (Screened-in porch dining room), Carolina Blue in color, just fabulous. Love it!

In past years, I would have given this place 5 stars, as when you ordered the all-you-can-eat crabs, you got a mix of sizes, with a lot of them being very big crabs. Ive been three times this year, and have been really disappointed in the crabs. They have been small and lightweight. In the past, the thing that distinguished this AUCE crabs from other places Ive been to, is that the crabs were multi-sized not just the small lightweight ones. At $42 for AUCE, I expect better than small lightweight crabs. I hope they go back to the way things were in the past. Service is excellent.
