Let me just start by saying that I am general an "anti-mid-range-food-chain" food guy. Just from past experience, it seems like if a place has say, 5 locations, theres usually not going to be much consistency there. That being said, I try to stick to places that have either 1, or more than 20 locations. I know thats not always the case, but again...just based on experience. Ive been hurt too many times. So when a trip to drop off a car for service took us to scenic Wallingford Ct last Friday, there were plenty of these type of restaurant options within about a 2 mile radius. We hard-passed on the first few we saw, but when we saw the sign from Wood N Tap we remembered a couple not completely disappointing past experiences at the Southington location and decided to give it a shot. It was about 5:30 on a Friday night, so we werent really expecting a wait. Was a bit surprising when we were told it would be a 25 minute wait for the 2 of us. We were offered the option of finding space in the bar area, but it only took one look to know that was not going to happen. It looked like a cattle pen that was about 20 cows over capacity. We elected to wait, which was a good call because it ended up only being about 15 minutes. We were seated in a really nice and comfortable booth spot off to the side. The place was pretty packed, but it didnt "feel" packed. Layout was roomy and the decor and lighting were comfortable. Overall for atmosphere, Id give the dining room 4 stars. Waiter arrived promptly and introduced himself and seemed like a generally nice guy that cared about his job, which I appreciated. We ordered drinks (one fancy beer and one fancy Old Fashioned) and put it for an appetizer as well, electing to give the "Tap Room Fries" a shot. Drinks and apps arrived quickly as did our entree orders. Overall for service, 4 stars again. Not perfect, but about as perfect as youll get at a place like this. Food-wise, listen...its mid-range pub style restaurant, dont expect the food to change your life...trust me, it wont. But from our past experiences and this latest one, I will say that the food is super consistent and super delicious. Besides the Tap Room Fries (which are a MUST), we ordered burgers...mainly because we were in a burger mood. I went with the Buffalo Chicken and she went with the Bison. Again, both were delicious. Best burger ever? No. Worth every penny and semi-memorable? Yes! We also ordered an app of the Calamari to go for our son, and I can verify that it was possibly one of the best Calamaris Ive ever had at this type of restaurant. Id call this a "30 minute" joint. If you get there, and the wait is 30 minutes or less, itll be worth your while. If its like 45 minutes, Id consider one of the many other options in the area. I mean, unless you REALLLY want those fries. Then, maybe.

Food is decent, Ive yet to have good luck with them cooking a steak as its ordered. Staff is very hit or miss, mostly miss, with great service during one visit and no service the other times. My biggest issue with the WnT Wallingford location is their drinks; in three visits, without fail they cannot make a mixed drink to save their lives. Six drinks, three of which were sent back for a remake, over three visits. Every single one tasted (and felt) nonalcoholic. Considering the $6+ price tag that seems insane. When asked, our server informed us theyre measured as if that was a reasonable excuse for why a $7 drink tasted more virgin than most of Steve Carrels characters. My girlfriend and I have tried SO hard to like this place. We really have, weve tried multiple times of day and different days of the week, trying to find a good experience. It hasnt happened. Food is decent but overpriced, staff is very unlikely to impress (or really care that much), and I cannot stress is enough THEIR MIXED DRINKS ARE TERRIBLE. Seriously, WnT, have you tried your own drinks? Would YOU pay for those? How about 6, without losing it after the fifth strawberry with a splash of triple sec and a drop of tequila? Going to try another location, if thats a nonstarter then Im shredding this Tap card. Actually thats worth pointing out, the Tap rewards program is stellar, I wish other restaurants would pick it up.

My hubby and I stopped by this Wood-n-Tap for a quick bite to eat and a drink before a concert at the Oakdale. There was a bit of a wait, but they were right on the money with the estimated wait time (about 15 minutes). To our surprise, once we were being shown to our seat, we noticed quite a few empty tables - at least 6 or 7, all of which were cleaned and set up for diners. Im not sure why they werent utilizing all of the seating arrangements available in the restaurant. Anyways, on to the food and drinks! Our drinks were good.. typical of other Wood-n-Taps that weve been to. However, I wish the service would have been quicker. It took our waitress a while to even come over to us. It also took over 10 minutes for us to get our first round of drinks. Food was out relatively quickly (especially when considering how long it took to get drinks). We got a bunch of appetizers to snack on - our favorites were the crab dip and buffalo chicken tenders. While we had a pleasant experience at this Wood-n-Tap and nothing went terribly wrong, I do not have high remarks for this Wood-n-Tap because I have been to others that have a much better overall experience and much better service. I do not feel that it should have taken us 90 minutes to get 2 rounds of drinks, 3 appetizers, and our check....

Drove over with my husband to celebrate my birthday. Plenty of parking. No wait at 5:10PM on a Thursday night. We were served by Jessica L, who in my opinion is a World Class Rock Star[tm]. Not too "teeny-bopper" bubbly, but more of a down to earth kind of warmth and sincerity to her, and a quick sense of humor. The food came out pretty quickly, got two Blackened Chicken Pastas and I also got a chopped steakhouse salad, no egg. We each got drinks. My sangria wasnt as sweet as I wouldve liked it, but it was strong and fruity, which are both important components of a proper sangria! The food was as good as it usually is - which means it was delicious. Had the creme brulee for dessert, and this time they put lots of chocolate on the bottom so it was even better than usual. Bathroom was clean, plenty of TP. They might want to look at one of the sink faucets in the Ladies Room, its hard to shut completely off and was dripping when I went in. Jessicas able, prompt, and entertaining assistance tied all the "awesome" of Wood-n-Tap up in a fun package and presented it to us with a big smile.

My aunts angel hair in white whine and olive oil was tasteless. You could not even taste the whine in it. My angel hair in a garlic cream sauce had no garlic flavor. The waiter did not come over and ask about our food or anything until we had almost finished. My aunt told him that it was gross and he was not very concerned or bothered. He was very detached and not worried about his customers. He walked away as fast as possible from tables and it was not a busy night. The appretizers were good along with the steak. However the best part was the manager who came over and really took care of my aunt. And asked her to get something else on him. However this would not be on my list of reccomendations.
