On Thursday the 16th of march, this year, My wife son and I stopped at the Old Saybrook Cafe for something to eat and to purchase a couple of pounds of coffee. This would have been our third visit since we heard about the cafe from a server at Livs Oyster Bar. Our first two visits were great! We met employees who were eager to help us pick out a coffee we would like. We also bought lunch both times. Something went wrong on Thursday, though. I asked about a favorite coffee that was not on the shelf. The girl I asked was curt, stating all they had was what was on the shelf. She walked away. I guess I was only allowed one question. My wife was at the counter and asked what coffee was currently brewed. Another girl said Dark and Light, and walked away. No name of the coffee, just Dark and Light. My wife had to call her back to ask for a sample, and the girl gave her a sample cup, with about two teaspoons-full in it. Not even enough to taste. I put the cup in your trash bin and we left. I only gave you three stars because the first two visits were great, and we purchased 6 bags of coffee during those stops. If it had been my first visit to your cafe, I would never return, and certainly would not have taken my son telling him what a great spot it was. I drove 45 miles just for your coffee and left empty handed!

The worst service I have ever encountered! Today when I was there they could not make change. The employee told me that they had a busy morning and only had about $10.00 in ones. This was at 8:00AM in the morning. You should be able to plan your day and have enough change in your drawer. When I said that his boss should be ashamed he was offended. The time before that they microwaved my sandwich for over 10 minutes before someone came out and told the clerk that the microwave was not working. Really??? run to Walmart and spend $39.00 and get a new one. The time before that the clerk was carding everyone who used a credit card which caused a huge back up. I have never seen something as easy as pouring a cup of coffee and have 3 employees standing behind the counter and it still takes them 5 minutes. I could go on for hours about the lack of service and trust me I have spoken to more than one person who has had the same kind of experience . Unfortunately they are the only coffee shop by the train station but they certainly are not prepared for the traffic

Ashlawn Farm Coffee is an amazing little store next to the train station in Old Saybrook. They have fresh brewed coffee that is very tasty. Additionally, they have excellent pre-made food. Typically, pre-made food sacrifices quality for speed. This is not true at Ashlawn Farm Coffee! Their sandwiches, breakfast offerings, everything I have tried are all delicate, filling, and delicious. I had the sausage and biscuit this morning, and everything about it, even merely heated up in a microwave, was delicious. The seasoning on the sausage is just right, and probably homemade, and the biscuit must be freshly baked there. Ive also had the Turkey Bacon sandwhich at lunch, which is also great. So far, everything is going for this excellent little shop!

Best coffee ever! The atmosphere is warm and inviting! I love that they promote artisans of all genres. Not only do I love their hot coffees, but I am addicted to their Cold Brew. I highly suggest trying a delicious Belgian Covered pretzel, I can not go here without getting one… or two. They carry awesome organic products that you cant find anywhere else, such as Wild Ophelias candy bars. To put it all in perspective, I travel 45 minutes to go here, and it is always worth the trip! I tell everyone about this coffee shop! I love it!

Very much enjoy meeting friends for coffee at Ashlawn. The locally roasted coffee is delicious, and the selection of baked goods will please anyone. They also serve sandwiches, but I have not tried those. The staff is cheerful. I rate it at four stars only because the cost of the cold brew coffee is a bit high. I sampled a 24- hour cold brew at another shop which was not only less expensive but was also served with coffee ice cubes. I think Ashlawn can do a bit better since many of us drink iced coffee over the summer.

This was my first time to Ashlawn Farm and its amazing. From my first step in it felt very welcoming and the smell of the coffee was so intoxicating. The have a large selection of food too. I got the sausage and cheese biscuit sandwich and its the best breakfast sandwich Ive had. I also got the lemon blueberry muffin and cant wait to try more. Definitely a must go.

Very warm and inviting coffee cafe by train. They have a nice selection of quiches, salads, yogurt and many freshly baked goods. Their coffee is the best part though. I am an espresso drinker and it is so deep and rich, slightly bitter and sweet at the same time. Perfection!

In my opinion this is the best coffee in the general shore area of Connecticut. Super original atmosphere that leaves you very cozy as you enjoy a nice cup of joe. If sitting outside is your fancy, well then your in luck. There is a nice outdoor heater for the colder seasons.

Nice date place and close to the train station. The vegetable wrap is incredible and they have unique takes on coffee and lattes. I love the Aztec Mocha both iced and hot. Yesterday I also tried the Turkish coffee (likely due to the seasoning, not brewing method).

Cool looking place inside, very hip. Limited food but bagels were phenomenal, from some place in Madison Ct. The other ashlawn location at the farm is more unique but this one does have a cool area just for kids to hang out in the back.

The best coffee for 50 miles in any direction - hands down! Their light roast is the best Ive had in as long as I can remember. Very popular with out of towners as well as locals - it can get busy, but its very worth the wait in line.

Coffee snob here and brew my own espresso. Ashlawns espresso roast best in CT, with rich cacao hints and thick rich crema. I stop off I 95 here every time i come up from PA, and stock up on the espresso...part of the trip!

Fantastic coffee! I drink all of my coffee black, so flavor is key. My favorite is Black Angus, I would describe it more like a rich, smokey BBQ.
