Based on the good reviews the Emerald Bakery had received, we decided to get a birthday cake for our daughter there. We bought one of their pre-made showcase cakes for $21.95 and had them write a birthday message on it. My first red flag should have been the poor job they did writing the message. The word Happy was shakily written in hot pink icing with a purple underline, the word Birthday was written in purple and my daughters name was written in both hot pink and purple and underlined. And to top it off, her name was falling off the cake. I honestly wish I could upload a picture because words dont do justice to how badly it was written. My 3 year-old-daughter could have done a better job. Instead of complaining about the poor decoration job, I accepted and paid for it thinking that it wouldnt matter much to a little kid. However, I couldnt ignore the quality. This was the driest cake Ive ever tasted. Every bite was dry and had at least two or three raisins in it. Oh, did I mention this was a carrot cake? I think this cake had more raisins than carrot. Our guests were too polite to say anything but no one finished their cake. The one good thing is that they refunded my money without question but I did have to bring the cake back. I would have rather they provided a quality product from the start so I could have been saved the time, trouble and embarrassment. I could have gotten a much better cake at a local grocery store. Maybe their custom cakes are better, but their showcase cakes leave a LOT to be desired.

I was reading these reviews and was very surprised at the negative feedback. I have gone to Emerald Bakery several times in recent years and have had no complaints but this past Thanksgiving I had a very different experience. I purchased an apple crumb pie and it was barely baked - the crust and ingredients were incredibly goopy and completely sub-par. I also purchased a pumpkin pie that one of my family members literally spit out while trying to eat. Im not sure what happened but I think Ill be finding another local bakery.

Inconsistent hours. Sunday mornings are hit or miss if they even open. Today no one was there, 1.5 hrs after opening, to run the register! How do you run a business like this?

Delicious and amazing moist cakes! We got our wedding cake and the 1year from them. Mary, Mike and their associates are all so nice and wonderful to work with!
