TL;DR: epic portions served with care in a congenial setting. I visited the Painted Pony on the first night of a dance intensive. Eight or ten of us, all hungry, descended without warning on this little gem in the Litchfield Hills region. We were seated promptly and plied with delicious bread plates while we waited for our meals. I ordered eggplant parmesan from the smaller portions menu—but I still received enough food to leave full with leftovers good for two lunches during the week. For $11 before tip (I drank water), that was a great deal. If I had ordered the full-size version, Id probably still be eating it! Our server handled all our orders and requests with aplomb and split the checks without even being asked. She was fantastic. The Painted Pony offers an extensive menu, so chances are good youll find something for everyone (including vegetarians and vegans). Its also the kind of place that takes all comers—from bikers to dancers in warm-up gear to first-dates dressed too impress—and has just the right spot for all. If youre in Bethlehem, definitely give The Painted Pony a try.

Wow, what happened to the Painted Pony? We have been there many times in the past and loved it. Today we came with friends. My wifes comment about the Fish and Chips: dried out and tasteless. I tasted them and I had to agree. Another commented that the Fish and Chips were like a hockey puck, hard and dry. My meal of Shrimp and Ravioli Alfredo was wonderful. Our friend Bruce couldnt get over it. He told me how Rockport leather shoes were more tender than his Prime Rib. This isnt the Painted Pony we knew. What happened?

Breakfast buffet was stale and boring. Cocktail my wife had (comes with buffet price) was very small. I had a burger with a whiskey molasses sauce from the menu, it was small and plain with lettuce and tomato on the side. The fries were ok. Do yourself a favor and dont sit on the left side with the banquet area where buffet is set up. It was loud and full of kids screaming. Next time we pass through this town, we will eat somewhere else.

Out for the day with friends & one of my friends had heard about this place, well it turned out to be fantastic, food was good (chicken asaigo mashed potatoes) one of my friends had a steak I sampled a piece & wasnt impressed, another had the veal (had mushrooms so I didnt sample) soups salads the bill came to $76 . Not to bad considering the steak (which was huge) . I will be going again the patio has a great relaxing feel ..

Its a big restaurant for a small town, but worth the trip. The food is delicious, drinks are served by a friendly staff, and a couple of nights a week the place gets packed for music in the lounge area. There is a separate dining area for a more sophisticated atmosphere, and in the lounge on the other side of the building, like Cheers, its a place to go where everybody knows your name and youre always glad you came.

I made my order by phone. Drove 15 minutes to pick it up, only to learn they forgot to cook it. Then had to wait another 20 minutes and then they actually charged for the order! $10.50 for a Chicken Parm grinder? Then, when I opened it at home I found out they had glopped on a ton of peppers even though I told them not to put them on. What a joke!

I have been to the painted Pony several times for everything from weddings to dinners out. I will admit that i have had things to eat here that were not to my liking but that was more of a personal preference thing than a quality of the food issue. This is a great place to go when you are looking for something just a step below fine dining.

Ive ben going to this place since the 90s with family and love it every time I go. Food is consistently cooked well, wait staff is very pleasant. Have had several parties there and will continue to go and tell my friends about it. My family misses the Sunday buffet, but still a great drive and great place to eat.

The ago-lemono soup is to die for. Great food steaks and burgers are always awesome. Honey mustard pork chops are Manhattan Exquisite at a small little Connecticut restaurant. If youre real lucky youll be there when they make the once in a blue moon and stuffed pepper soup it is out of this world

Very good food and a huge place. It looks like they have a side room for private parties and a patio for summer dining. Have been here a few times and would return again.

Great food and excellent service. This place was recommended by our AirBnB host. We wish we had gone earlier in our trip so we could visit more than once.
