We have been several times. We love what the place offers (potentially) as far as ambience but the plain fact is that the food is mediocre while the prices are very high. The steaks are full of gristle and fat. We mentioned this to our waitress once and were told that some of the clients like to chew it so they dont trim. Really? A smart owner would then offer a trimmed or untrimmed option? The sides and rolls are all cheap Sysco foods. They should be homemade recipes of high quality. This would help justify to exorbitant prices. The salad bar could be amazing with high quality abundant selection but it is limited and poor. The place is always almost empty and really shows how all the aforementioned problems have had a negative effect on this business. I am actually writing this in hopes that maybe the owners need some direction as to how they can pull this restaurant out of its tailspin because - believe me - everyone WANTS a great steakhouse in Kiowa / Elizabeth / Elbert etc. You could be very busy and profitable! 1. Improve quality of food. Better steaks (trim them for gods sake) homemade excellent recipes for all sides. Quality salad bar with a lot of choices (go look at a Sweet Tomatos salad bar for inspiration). These things will justify your high prices. Have some lower prices options that are quality as well so everyone can eat there. You shouldnt have to charge high prices for bad food to make up for poor customer flow. Charge a bit less and pack the house! 2. Train your staff. Customer service and quality wait staff are critical for success. 3. Look into bands for friday and saturday evenings. You have plenty of room let them start at 9pm. 4. Do all this and have a grand reopening and Invite the entire county. Make it amazing. You dont need Chef Ramsey or Bar Rescue. Heres hoping someone listens and suceeds!

No. This is NOT a good steakhouse or family restaurant. This place is the ONLY major restaurant in the very small town of Kioa, and I think it has a lot of bias reviews (from friends & family of the restaurant). In truth the place offers little atmosphere, so-so service from waiters (weve been treated very rudely some times and very nicely other times), and a blah menu. Either you order a burger (which they are frequently out of like this past weekend - how do you run out of burgers???) or you order a $20 steak (give or take a few bucks depending on the cut). Sure, the steaks are well seasoned, but so are my dads. So are my husbands. There is nothing at all special about this menu. The drinks are over priced and practically all you can order is a Bud or Coors. Blue Moon is about as risky as they get with the beers. Lets face it, this is the only steakhouse (or restaurant in general other than Patty Anns which closes before 2pm) in Kiowa and its only stayed in business for that reason. I can grill a better steak for much less money at home. I wouldnt recommend wasting any money here. They serve Kool-Aid to kids and bicker with you about whos entitled to the salad bar at this place (the menu states ALL"Specials" include a salad... but apparently the sandwich specials are not included, despire what the menu says. Waitress/waiter will probably bicker with you about this... okay?) A steak sandwich comes with a bun, pickles and onions on the side, and is just very dry and blah. So you order a steak sandwich here and its roughly $11. But order just a steak and youre looking at $20. Ooookaaaay.... Plain and simple, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Its blah and boring, nothing special about it. Save yourself the money and buy a steak at the store to cook.

Loved the atmosphere here. Lovely fireplace and nice mounted longhorn above it. Our server was very nice but she got rather busy as our meal went on. Very very pricey. My husband had a steak which was very tender and well seasoned. $22 I had the shrimp. Five shrimp deep fried and a side salad for$16. Probably worth $10. Salad bar is $9 for all you can eat, and for that price I would expect a lot more items. Baked potato was not quite cooked all the way but the toppings were yummy, tho had to pay an extra dollar for cheese and bacon which at that price should just be included. Bring the prices down and I would be happy to come again.

Dont do it! YOU WILL BE SORRY! Their menu prices are quite high. My ribeye was kinda thin and had a lot of gristle. The baked potato was hard. I ate it anyway because the service was poor. My girlfriends shrimp were huge but doughy because they werent cooked long enough. After a lengthy wait, sending them back to the kitchen fixed that. Their salad bar was a tiny little cart and the side of it looked like it hadnt been cleaned in a while. In spite of our issues there were no bill adjustments, just a Sorry bout that from the waitress. I cant think of a single reason to ever go back.

What a Steakhouse is Supposed to Be! Western Trails is exactly what you go to a Steakhouse for. In the heart of Colorado cattle country, this is an establishment that appreciates good beef! I grew up wrangling cattle, and I appreciate a good steak. This is an authentic Steakhouse, without pretense or pandering. If you want great Prime Rib, sirloin, or an expertly prepared T-bone, as well as a classic, unpretentious salad bar (yes, they have crisp, juicy iceberg lettuce, not Romain or kale-think classic Wedge, or an old west Wagon Wheel salad bar), try them. And enjoy the drive!

Im a local, I live just a few miles behind it, I went in there and there was no one to be found. So I seated myself down with a menu and waited 15 min, I got tiered of waiting and poked my head in the kitchen. To my surprise the two staff members where just playing on there phones, with raw meat just sitting out. I have been there multiple times, and I do have to say.....unfriendly, unhelpful, very very unclean, and just an embarrassment to Elbert county. In short Just drive to Elizabeth, or even Parker for that matter, it will be cheaper to just drive somewhere else.

I have been going to the steak house for years, back in the day it was good food for a reasonable price. No, however, prices have gone way up, food is less appealing, we ate there last night, with my meal I got a trip to the salad bar, almost everything was still frozen and what wasnt didnt taste fresh. Our meals took forever and were not that great. We also ordered appetizers and they tasted like they were fried in month old oil. Hope that new management can restore the place back to original glory
