DH and I enjoyed our food at Flower Pepper on our two visits there, although they made a pretty major mistake on one of our entrees. On our first visit, we said that we were vegetarian and the person taking orders suggested a dish, which DH ordered. I ordered the Vegetarian Ma Po Tofu because its a favorite of mine. DHs dish (not sure of the name) was great, but after eating about half of it we discovered meaty bits in the sauce. My tofu dish was good but not outstanding. We ordered the Tiger Food appetizer and it was *excellent*. We recognized it as the same dish a Chinese friend of ours has served us in the past and it tasted almost exactly like hers. On our second visit, we noticed that a menu taped to the counter included a vegetarian section. (We werent shown this menu on our first visit.) We had a little more confidence this time when ordering since we could specifically point to the items we wanted and they were specified as being vegetarian. DH ordered the Sour and Spicy Sweet Potato Noodles, and I ordered the Vegetarian Dan Dan Noodles. Both were excellent and had a unique spice combination that we hadnt tasted before. The location is a bit out of the way for us, but well be back.

The food here is really good, seems authentic, and ample and it would get 5 stars easily if they fixed a few of the issues they seem to have with staffing. The soup dumpligs are great, the Dan Dan (spicy minced pork over noodles and broth) is so satisfying and warm and spicy. Theres always a little steamed baby bok choy that is crunchy and salty. Just thinking about it gets me hungry. And, in general, there have been no problems if we order at off-times (before 5PM and after 7:30PM), but during the rush I have seen, on numerous occasions, ONE person running the whole operation: cooking, taking money, serving food, bussing tables, answering the phone, etc. That person usually looks flustered and stressed and the food can take 1 hour+ to make what usually takes 15-20 mins. I think this is a great business and I will keep coming when I want dinner at off times until I see a genuine effort to alleviate the situation at the dinner rush.

I tried the Dan Dan noodles as Matt Cortina wrote in the Boulder Weekly describing them with flippant praise as the best dish there. The broth was bland, water-like weak and greasy with thin spaghetti noodles, and cheap ground pork. Needless to say it was mediocre at best. I wouldnt pay $1 for that dish let alone the $7-$9 that they charge. It might as well been some warmed up dish-water, no kidding. If this is described as their best dish I will not be returning. I asked for black pepper and "Flower Pepper" does not even have black pepper or spoons bigger than teaspoons. Save yourself the disappointment. I have had good Szechuan soup over at Zo Ma Ma on Boulder St whose dishes have some taste.

I watched the owner and his sister make dumplings from scratch, including the dough or wrapper. We tasted a number of dishes and everything was very good, but the dumplings are out of this world and for those of you who like spicy food, they have some amazing spicy sauces that you can add to your food. This is the real deal, totally authentic and absolutely delicious Chinese food, highly recommended!

This hole-in-the wall serves up delicious Chinese food. The menu has a variety of cheap noodle and rice bowls, soups, and buns. The small and narrow seating arrangement is not ideal for parties bigger than 2. The food is super delicious and much more traditional than most Chinese restaurants. It is very similar to Zo Ma Ma in Boulder, but with a much more stripped down atmosphere.

So this place is pretty far from any region of authentic chinese food but they have a very interesting and delicate take on their food.Though Its delicious none-the-less. Also we need to reserve the right for a chinese person to call a chinese food restaurant authentic, yes you they play chinese speaking music but that doesnt make them any more authentic. No offense Mr. Sullivan.

The food was pretty good, but authentic is a stretch. It is Boulder, but the Dan Dan mian and other Sichuan dishes had almost no hua jiao, which is is kind of important for Sichuan cuisine (and a restaurant named flower pepper). That said, it was still good, and its the best Chinese food Ive had around here. I cant comment on the authenticity of the non-Sichuan dishes.

This is some of the best (if not THE BEST) Chinese food in Boulder. Super super delicious mom and pop type, interesting and different menu and cheap price. Small, casual and cramped setting reminds of New York or San Francisco. Usually crowded and owners are often rushed; dont be surprised if your order is somehow wrong, totally worth it though!

A unique taste experience, really enjoyed the noodles. We had veggie dumplings, noodles in a spicy broth and the cucumber salad. My girlfriend loved the cucumber salad and said it was authentic. The space is small but the food is good. Not a dining type spot, but more of a takeout, quick bite type place.

Tasty authentic food. I had pork belly over rice and it was delicious. Not a lot of places (within Boulder) to get authentic Chinese. Service knowledgeable about food. The only place in Boulder Id recommend for authentic Chinese (street) food aside from Zoe Ma Mas.

Very delicious authentic Chinese food, I am so happy to have found a Chinese restaurant in Boulder that isnt Chinese-American. Thank goodness, as a Chinese person myself. The food doesnt cut corners on quality - you get the quality of food you pay for.

The food is amazing. The jasmine tea tastes like youre drinking fresh flowers. Dining-in is a little cramped because the seating area is so small -- its better suited for take-out. But theres a homey feeling there that is enjoyable.

Its ok. I thought they had lo mein, but they didnt. The guy at the counter is nice and helpful which is hard to find in Chinese restaurants. I ordered noodle soup which is like pho but less tasty. First and last time here.

holy cow...this place is AH-mazing! Best Chinese food I have had in Colorado since Lee Wuans Burger Shack closed ten/fifteen years ago. Dumplings and all things noodles are the way to go.

Very authentic Chinese food cooked to order. I love the beef noodle soup, but everything I have tried is delicious. Prices are very reasonable. This is my go to for Chinese in Boulder.

High marks for friendliness, but the food was disappointing. Limp veggies and soggy meat in a soup, microwaved and poured over some squiggly noodles. Im reminded of college.

The duck buns came on tortillas, which was tasty but just a bit too far from authenticity to totally satisfy. The duck noodle soup was a tad insipid. OK, not great

the gluten free dish we ordered came with wheat noodles. The vegetarian dish with chicken. I felt the place was chaotic and not clean enough for food service

We loved it. Real. Simple. Fresh. Extremely friendly. Dont get this confused with run-of-the-mill American Chinese food. We will be going back soon.

The xiao long bao took a really long time to come out and was pretty disappointed in it. The pork belly rice was really good and flavorful however.
