I went to Guru Palace assuming it was the same restaurant Ive had take-out from in the past. When I realized it wasnt I thought Id try it anyway. When I walked in the front door I got the feeling I was walking in the back door. One very small dining room adjoined by a room that looked more like a storage room than a kitchen. A young child was walking in and out of this kitchen, coughing. A man in street clothes and a dark suede jacket offered to take my order. The first thing that struck me when looking at the menu was the prices. Dinner entrees were sold a la carte rather than a complete dinner. Rice and Naan were added seperatly. Chicken Tiki Masala with Naan and plain basmati rice rang up to $13.45. The dinner was packed in seperate containers in a brown paper bag instead of on a plate or container that is usually provided with take-out orders at other restaurants. No eating utensils or napkins were provided. It took about 15-20 minutes for the manager/waiter/cook to produce the dinner. When he presented my food he just walked by and dropped the bag on the table I was waiting at and went to check on the few people dining outside. He didnt say thank you, enjoy, goodnight, or anything. I thought all of this I could deal with if the food was excellent, however it wasnt. I was very hungry, but only managed to take about 5 bites before I lost my appetite. The Masala sauce was very watery and tasted sweet and rich. The menu described it as tomato and butter gravy, and that was just about what it tasted like. It wasnt the complex and mildly spicy flavor Im used to. The chicken was boneless, skinless breastmeat. It was tough, as though it had been cooked quickly and set aside rather than allowed to stew in the sauce of any length of time. The rice had herbs mixed in that were strong, overpowering, and not very appealing. The only good part of the dinner was the Naan and yogurt, which became my main course. In my opinion the prices do not reflect the level of service or quality of food. You can get much better food and for less at one of the "fast food" indian places around the area. And for half the price, these other establishments offer more courtesy and much better service. As a side note, the all you can eat indian buffet offered from 11am to 3pm daily might sound enticing until you realize you wont really want to eat much past the first few bites.

I have recently within the past year become a fan of Indian cuisine. I got introduced to some of the dishes and started to become a real big fan. Last night sitting with my boyfriend we were looking on a site to see what we could order. We were not feeling the normal delivery options like pizza and pasta. So for the first time he wanted to try Indian food so we called Guru Palace. Delivery was pretty fast and when we started to eat it was the best dish we have eaten in a really long time. The rice was cooked to perfection and the sauces were absolutely amazing and can not forget the Garlic Naan. It was so beyond delicious my BF said that he never knew that Indian food was so delicious! Great first impression of the restaurant and the Indian Cuisine. We will definitely be ordering from Guru Palace again!

This place seriously needs a makeover, if u have toodler children do not go there for they dont even have high chairs. Also, never take a date to this place. The owner guy who is the server/waiter is not very friendly. However having daid that I do recommend only one dish, the eggplant madala (benghan madala) its the best ever. The food is pretty good but very heavy. If u eat Here u wont want Indian food for a few Weeks.

My husband and I love Indian food and we have been to many Indian restaurants in California and in London over the years. We have been going to Guru Palace for over 20 years. I would agree that the place could use a makeover but, the food is excellent. So, if you are looking for great food, I highly recommend Guru Palace. They have catered several parties at our house and we have always been pleased.

New in tustin, went to guru place for Indian cuisine. I must say the food was stale the gulab jamun I saw was so horrible I was afraid to eat as not have bad stomach. Raita was sour in taste. Overall a very bad experience for me.

Very dirty place. Poor food. Doesnt worth it. The owners are demoting Indian food with their very cheap mindset.
