Never. Again. So I gave it a shot, went there with my lovely lady, tried out a few menu items to get our feet wet. Asked the waitress how I get some of the side dishes I see other patrons enjoying. "Well which ones." I dunno, is there a menu? "No, which ones do you want." Its your job to tell me, Im the newb here. "Sorry I dont know what you need." Wanders off. Awesome. Do some research, find out more about Korean BBQ, try to give it another shot. Get more adventurous, order a noodle dish, order their "calamari", order some more common fare. The noodles were disgusting. The "calamari" is actually just half of the LARGEST DAMN SQUID IN THE WORLD. Not the tender little bits of tiny squid you see at ANY OTHER KOREAN BBQ. Its like rubber mixed with leather rubbed with salt. Awful dish. We enjoy some chicken, some beef, some pork, some nice side dishes, I get up to use the bathroom. I come back and they have come to the table to say, "You only get one hour, your hour is up, anything you didnt eat we will charge you extra for." Excuse me? How dickish are you? You need to make a buck that bad you gotta rush your customers out when they havent even enjoyed a full meal because of your slow service and awful food. I say, ok, well I understand that policy is meant to reduce waste and people over ordering, but I wanted to send this stuff back because its awful. If you have the balls to charge me extra, because I took a chance on your menu and you FAILED ME, that is insulting. Ive never been rushed out of a korean BBQ and Ive been to several at this point. Rude staff, Bad food, Overcharging customers. The prices sound great, but they honestly use the worst cuts of meat, prepared badly, have the smallest selection of side dishes Ive ever seen, you have to ASK specifically for rice/rice wrappers/radish well everything. They cheap out and are a poor example of what good KBBQ can be.

I dont know how I feel about Gen. Im happy, yet confused at the same time. So KBBQ places nowadays are advertising Angus Meat. I wonder if Gen knows that angus is actually more expensive than Kobe. So its strange to see them emphasize kobe. Now I am confuse whether its real kobe or not. I usually have kobe meat but more of the tender meat. the kobe at GEN is tongue and brisket and roast beef. I didnt feel like the kobe roast beef was actual kobe. I had kobe before, in america, or american wagyu and it was much more tender. Now on to the brisket, kobe beef tends to be more fatty, the brisket did show that itw as WAY more fatty, so I do believe the brisket is kobe. Since I never had kobe tongue, not sure how it looks like im guessing theyre honest there too. I dont believe this place deserves the 2 hour wait, but its pretty damn good. We came when it open so there wasnt a wait, im just speculating from other reviews. I dont think their prime signature steak is really that signature, it wasnt tender and more chewy. The meat was frozen when they gave it to us which i guess is normal. So whats good about gen? Price, Soju, and the marinated meat. I believe thats the highlight. The soju is really good, as good as I would make it because I notice most places are really bad at making flavored SOJU! For 15 bucks and 20 bucks its pretty competitive to other KBBQ places. personal note. that looks like kobe, but I ordered all the beef on the menu and I did not see that at all. I would like to go here again though. L.A. style kalbi is unbeatable everywhere.

I went with my entire family of 5 adults and an 11year old child to have dinner. They seated my sons and I until my wife and her parents found a parking. There were three different waiters that served us and each one kept on lowering the grill heat and wd had to ask more than six times to not do that because the food was taking too long to cook, but they kept on turning it low. At the end when we asked for the check they charged us for 7 adults. When we pointed that out to the waiter, he gave me that look like are sure you are 6. So I pointed out the the booth can only seat 6 and infact it is 5 adults and a child. He left to correct the check and another guy came and said that they will charge for 6 adults, because according to the hostes, she measure the hight of my son and that made him an adult. I mentioned to him that when we walked in no body measured his hight but he insisted that she did, in essance calling me a liar. As we left I confronted that guy and the hostes and she admitted that she did not say that she measured my son. Which showed me how the lie to get there way which also makes me belive that they overcharged us on purpose. They are rude, dishonest and thives at this place. If you like to get ripped off and humiliated, this is the place for you.

Instagram: @koganei037 Reason for going: Went to Gen after an afternoon of racing @ K1 Speed in Irvine. Group of 8 ppl, had to wait a bit on a Sunday but not too bad of a wait. Food Impression: Third time coming to the Original Gen location in Tustin. Quality of food is excellent for the price you pay $20.99 for dinner. You get to choose from 39 different items. Always stick with the classics: Signature Steak (Sirloin Cap), Chado (beef brisket), Galbi (beef short ribs) and Samgyusal (Pork Belly); almost forgot Beef Tongue. They also have chicken, veggies, pineapple, shrimp, squid and intestines. Service Impression: Servers are always busy, though they do bring your orders, sometimes they forget so need to check with them once in a while but not a big deal. They do change the grill often and everytime you ask. Price Impression: Either lunch or dinner you get good food and quality for the price you pay. Lunch $15.99 for 33 items. Dinner $20.99 for 39 items. Overall Impression: If craving for Korean BBQ, Gen is the place to go for quality and price.

Arrived there around 7 and waited about an hour before we got our seats. We were bit on a time crunch and asked our server specifically to serve us quickly and he agreed. I knew the place was busy so I did not want to rush him too much. Five minutes passed.. and ten minutes passed and we still didnt get served our first plate of meat. The grill was just running hot and burning the empty grill. Finally our server brought out the plate, but instead of serving us, he served it to the table behind us who came at least 5 minutes later than us. We then got out and talked to the manager before we walked out. Even after the complaint, the manager seemed unapologetic about the whole situation. We quickly storm out and went to eat at Souplantation at the same plaza. Even without considering their bad service, I still give one star for side dishes that were already plated. I simply dont understand and refuse to tolerate such restaurants that think its okay to treat customers badly since theyre already doing so well.
