La Mere Michelle is a very cute classic French bistro in Saratogas charming little downtown. We went on a lovely warm evening and were seated by the open windows. Our server, Maury, was absolutely delightful. The food was equally delightful. Mushroom soup: I absolutely love mushroom soup and this one was pretty good. It was thick but not super creamy. It was a great start to the meal. Apple & endive salad (with bleu cheese): A very light salad with different flavors and textures that come from the various ingredients. The walnuts were a nice touch. Duck breast with Montmorency sauce: This was delicious! I love duck as a meat but its often mishandled. The duck here was cooked perfectly - still a little pink and tender. The sauce was nicely tart without being overly so. I loved the well-seasoned vegetables as well. 12 oz. NY steak with mushroom demi-glace: Steak was a perfect medium rare. The sauce was very good too, a perfect demi-glace. Desserts (coconut cake & berry tart): Both were very good! It wasnt a huge slice (thank goodness) and was a perfect end to the meal.

By chance, my friend and I found ourselves dining at this restaurant after a restaurant down the street lost our reservations. We went in not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised at what we found. Our waiter was very attentive and the ambiance was charming. We sat next to a flower bed overlooking the street and enjoying a nice breeze from the open windows. We started with a shrimp and shiitake mushroom appetizer. Between the two of us, we licked the plate clean. Next came the most flavorful and aromatic French onion soup Ive ever tasted. We did have a salad that was not so inspired, but soon afterward came our main courses. My filet mignon was incredibly tender and cooked precisely how I requested it. My friends lobster was also cooked perfectly. This is definitely one of our favorite places in the bay, now.

Last Friday we are walking in around 6:30 PM and it is very quiet and the lights are off in the front lobby. So I asked if the restaurant is open. The lady in front was on a phone having non-business related conversation. She gave me very strange look and said that "of course they are open". She put the phone down and took us to a table. Then she turned away and vent to continue her conversation. I decided to go wash my hands before I sit down and I was few steps behind the lady. The next few words shocked me: "This stupid man is asking me if we are open". Needless to say we left immediately. You would expect little more respect in fine restaurant in downtown Saratoga

I booked a reservation through OpenTable for Valentines dinner. When I arrived on time with my date, not only did they not have a table reserved - they had no idea when a table might be available. The hostess was flat out rude when I expressed my frustration with their inability to honor a reservation. Between their idea of customer service and what I saw of the place, I will not be back. Im willing to spend that much money on a nice meal in a good restaurant, but not when the customer service and ambience are so lacking. I cannot comment on the food as I was never able to have any!

We went there for our anniversary and were a little surprised when we walked in. The decor was dated but the bad part stopped there. We were greeted and seated within minutes and the entire experience was amazing. Like the decor, the service was also reminiscent of the olden days where a LOT (and I mean a lot) of attention was paid to diners. For example, my husband ordered foie gras and the server got an extra serving for me so that I can try it (at no extra charge!). The filet mignon, shrimp and dessert were superb.

We stumbled upon this restaurant as we stopped for lunch on our way back from a trip... Michelle, the owner was very pleasant and greeted us warmly and came to check on us multiple times. The food was great (among the best meals we ahve had in a while).. and the service was top notch.. Our server was very friendly and acocmodating and we cannot wait until we go back again.. My children are looking for an occasion where they can ask us to take them back there again..

Go. Chef is the real deal and the staff will not steer you wrong on recommendations. Charming French bistro with old world feel. Chef happy to accommodate special dietary needs or requests (these people know their food) and homemade ice-cream is phenomenal. Date night, family friendly, dress up, or dressed-up jeans; La Mere knows the art of "seating" and reads a situation well. Go on rainy evenings when its quiet and you can have the place to yourself.

The cook (owners son) should be fired. My wife ordered a steak with blue cheese sauce. The steak was so heavily peppered that there was no possibility of tasting the sauce. She sent it back. Eventually .... long wait, the same steak re-appeared with some of the pepper scraped off. Still inedible and now cold. We refused it and insisted on a new steak. Finally, an edible steak. Nothing compd. Do not go. It is not a good experience.

I ordered the Ribeye and I swear it was melting off my fork. And My Wife had the Veal Scallopini. The Service was excellent and the Staff was incredible. We will be back soon!!!!!!

Came here for Valentines Day a couple years ago, and I remember the food and service were stellar. This place is run by a French couple, and everything here is classic and authentic. LOVE it! I hope to visit again soon.
