La Sen Bistro is hidden in this Concord downtown area but it is not to be overlooked. The decor is quite simple and elegant although diners here tend to be of older crowd for some reason. We celebrated Fathers Day and my father-in-laws birthday here and we were all very happy with our food. The menu is French with some Vietnamese influence although I am not entirely sure where the Vietnamese part fits in. The complimentary bread dip absolutely addictive and my son can just eat that all night long. We really love their fried calamari and pear salad. Their duck canard dish is also amazing for those duck lovers out there. We have also tried the steak and frites here and it is cooked well too. I also tried the lamb chop once and they gave you plenty of chops and was cooked so tender. Surprisingly, the price is very reasonable and that is also why we keep coming back for such high quality food. The wait staff is a little slow though. I think they can probably use more wait staff to be honest. I hope they get to expand and hire more people to improve the services!

The first time I came to La Sen was for my birthday. The food, the ambiance, the service all were excellent. What a great first experience. I praised that restaurant to all my friends who have gone to try the place. My next 2 experiences were not nearly as great. The second and third time we went, the waiter was super slow, did not bring the proper drinks, even brought water in a glass of wine instead of the white wine my friend had ordered! The escargot were cold! And we waited 30 minutes to have our order taken, no bread, no nothing to nibble on. When we asked if we could have some bread he said you will with your escargot!!! Other people who had arrived after us had bread on their table!!! Anyway after that first time the service was really bad. The same waiter we had twice was not good. We are unfortunately not going to come back, at least not until he still works there.

I had the salad nicoise and duck breast. Its my first time at the place and I really wanted to like it but the food was waaay less than stellar. I decided to go here because of the fairly good reviews. The salad nicoise was decent at most. Clean favors but the piece of fish was most distracting. It looked like a way-past-its-due-date day-old sushi seasoned and grilled before it became totally inedible. The duck breast was soft and was cooked medium rare, as requested, but my first bite reminded me of Peking duck from Oakland Chinatown. For me, its all about the first flavors that touch my tongue. It was duck all right but an unseasoned duck. The only saving grace? The Riesling. Which is not saying much because most Rieslings are fabulous by themselves. Give the place a try, if you must, but you didnt hear it from me.

We had excellent service and the food as excellent! We were most impressed with the sauces and its pairing with their meals: a braised duck, grilled lamb chops, mussels, and their beef bourguignon! The desserts were fantastic too! This is a mom and pop establishment, and so impressed with what the chef can accomplish as a sole chef! He offers a wonderful experience if you are willing to have the patience to enjoy such a meal. The price point for such a meal is also a great value as it rivals the high end $100/person 5 Star French restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who can appreciate having a nice and relaxed meal and not feelimg rushed

Love it ! We have been there a number of times and the food is consistently excellent. They may have the best onion soup in Northern California. The atmosphere reminds one of a true French neighborhood bistro. Thankfully, La Sen does not adhere to the premise that more is better. The portions are adequate and enables the diner to enjoy appetizer and dessert as well as an entree. The pricing is very moderate and in our opinion a bargain. The only possible negative is that the service can be hit or miss, especially at lunch.

If I could give this restaurant and -100 rating, I would! It is the worst restaurant in Concord! MY GRANDMOTHER GOT FOOD POISONING and was sick for 3 days!!!!!! I was not with her on that occasion, but the only time I was there, my experience was horrible! My family & I walked in & we were not greeted by the tattooed waitress who clearly seen us walk in, she looked our way, then looked away at her phone. When we were finally seated & our Ice Waters arrive to our table...they had lipstick stains on the glass. Ugh

Instead of attempting to park in Walnut Creek we decided on visiting La Sen Bistro on Christmas Eve. The seating is tight but the ambiance was altogether comfortable. The salads, crusty bread and dipping sauce set the tone for a great dining experience. The duck confit was crusty and tender and the lamb chops were perfectly cooked (pink) and very tasty. The wine list will not blow the budget and be sure to ask the waiter for their favorites to go along with how you describe your favorites.

Want to write excellent but only been there once tried only couple of dishes. Everything we ordered are very tasty. Small servings but big taste & price is reasonable. Will be back again & again, their menu is small so a few visits could have tried all they offer. Heres what we had appetizers salmon tartare &cream of tomato soup then entrees crab cake, duck something & beef lasagna.

“Excellent service” We had a very good experience arriving a bit early for our reservation but were seated anyway. The wait staff was very attentive. The bruschetta and tiramisu were amazing. I was happy that there were several very good vegetarian options. We split a tasty, ample size spinach salad. The bill added up after multiple courses. The experience did not disappoint.

We live in Oregon and manage to get to the East Bay about once a year. We always visit La Sen and are invariably pleased with the experience. My wife was quite happy with her scallops as I was with my duck confit. The service was spot on and all the remainder of the meal was great! Very highly recommended!

Its Valentines, and we came in at 6 on a whim, planning to sit at the bar which is always empty. WRONG... but still GREAT. 8:15 and the team is still fielding new parties with energy and awesome food. Everything shows evidence of superb French training and execution and love of food. Thank you again.

Ive been here twice, and been impressed with the food, level of service, and overall experience both times. Last time I tried the Filet, it was excellent, as was my wifes lamb chops. Its not the biggest place so I would recommend reservations for the weekend. 5 stars seems low.
