This place is super chill. Barristas are all unpretentious and overall cool folks. Its almost too chill, sometimes, as its frequented heavily by hippy kids and hipsters, but I kinda like that vibe. You need a key for the bathroom but its easily accessed via a nail on the wall. Free wifi, a plus for me as a web developer. Im sure to pay for my space by ordering WAY too many cups of coffee, but Ive seen locals chill here all day without a single purchase. I much prefer working here over the Santa Cruz Coffee Roasting Company located a few blocks away. And, they have beer. Bonus!

This is a great place to hang out in Santa Cruz. It is open late and you can easily find yourself talking to new people. It is mostly a university crowd, but the great thing about university kids is that they have not been beaten down by the world yet. They are able to talk big ideas with optimism. This is very refreshing compared to the hipster douchebag, faux pessimism discussions in San Franciscos Mission District where people do not even talk to you even though you are 3 generations San Franciscan.

After a tragically hip hippy started gasping for air, Hiram the manager recognized the issue and jumped over the counter loosening the top button on the blue faced hipsters sisters jeans. Averting the tragedy he administered one of their fine Ghirardelli chocolate mochas with handmade whip cream all the while reassuring him that no one indeed liked his favorite bands. Fine beer on tap and a nice porch to observe my motorcycle, pergs is always a staple. Tattoos arent mandatory.. yet..

This cafe has a very socially liberal atmosphere. From the regularly-rotated, locally-created paintings on the walls to the eclectic employee-selected music to the backdrop of varied conversation between people from many different walks of life, this place screams "come as you are." The mochas are tasty, the furnishings are homey, and the location is fantastic, just off of the main strip of downtown Santa Cruz in a house that feels like a piece of history.

I love this place based almost soley on the architecture and physical space plus the ambience. Its an old Victorian, rooms divided up into sitting spaces and live music spaces and the outdoor porches are multileveled and garden feeling. It feels welcoming. I want to come hang out here, not just grab a fast coffee and go. Also, better than decent coffee and cool, punk baristas.

Friendly staff, amazing pastries. The cardamom coffee cake was dense and moist. The almond croissant was filled with an unusual poppyseed filling that was delicious and added a nice texture when you were eating it. Awesome! The only thing keeping back from a 5 star review is the place is pretty run-down.

Love it. Ive never had bad coffee there, and its such a cool vibe. Used to live down in that area, and going to the Perg is like going home. Great place to chill with a friend, have some coffee, and talk about anything and everything. Its not *$, its not trendy, but its got cool by the bucket.

A quiet, calm environment to have a good cuppa joe and work or even order a beer. Staff is helpful. Free parking can be hard to come by and sometimes the crowd hanging out front kind of ruins the peaceful vibe, but overall one of the better cafes in SC to have a quiet afternoon study sesh.

Sitting on the veranda is the best thing you can do at this place. Once inside its nice, got wi-fi and most customers are staring into their laptops. The staff are ok if a little stand offish if you are not a local. The people who frequent this place look like Gap Clothing hippies.

A laid back place that probably hasnt changed too much for decades. Grab a high quality coffee or a craft beer and enjoy hours of relaxed atmosphere outside or inside. The food menu is somewhat limited and the place is not for everybody, but its certainly worth taking a look.

Their coffee is great. And its pretty cozy for a little laptop work. Friendly folks. It scent is that of untamed low urban life: Vibrant, real, mildly smokey, and unappologetically pungent. A little diamond in the rough, if you can embrace its unique fragrance.

Had to experience this place after hearing about it. So sad its closing, the coffee was really good. Hopefully I can go again to get another mocha. Made fresh from scratch, they actually whip the cream, no can of gas propelled whip. So good.

Best biergarten in Santa Cruz! Attractive, entertaining, helpful staff and the chance to be outdoorsy in the drinking-on-patios sense of the term. Great live music events on a semi-monthly basis. Highly recommended!

I love the vegetarian lasagna here. They also have amazing coffee and chai. Its a little hipster hang out with a very young vibe. The beer garden is super cool. Something you actually expect in a foreign country.

Free metal, super friendly crew, reasonable price for coffee, etc. Ive lived in Santa Cruz for almost a decade, this is my favorite place and my favorite people. Home away from home. I hope it lasts forever.

No more smoking outside ruined the vibe i used to like. over the years a wall was put up and employees are egotistical hipsters. Even though its crap now its still super hip pergs. I dont go there anymore.

Good place to go if you dont mind lousy service, pretentious hipsters, poorly made and diluted drinks and an excess of filth. Though maybe they actually started cleaning the bathroom more than once a year.

If you can get past the tweakers, junkies, and wasteoids, the place is actually pretty decent. Although there is a small non-smoking patio, the smoke (of various kinds) still wafts heavily thru it.

Friendly service, beautiful patio and some comfy indoor seats. For vegans there is almond and soy milk, and a packaged breakfast burrito. I didnt care for the espresso though, found it too bitter.

As a teenager I spent many nights here with a hazelnut latte and cigarette (or clove) on the patio. This cafe is a Santa Cruz landmark to me. I drop by and reminisce every time I am in town.

One of The Places to visit in the town, especially if you wish to work a bit on your laptop while sitting in their garden and observing the people of Santa Cruz. And their cold brew is great.

Superb surroundings, surrounded by an old Victorian house, one of several in the area. The freshest of pastries, and a selection of pies as well. Hats off, to the Caffe Pergolesi. Scott.

Nice local coffee shop. Furniture is slightly outdated. Fast Wi-Fi. Chai latte with almond milk runs at $4.5 per small cup. No bike racks, everybody parks their bike against the handrail.

Comfy cafe with good coffee! One of the reviewers seems concerned about other peoples clothing...of course people look like hippies...its Santa Cruz, not a fashion show.

Music can be loud and too metal sometimes, but atmosphere is really chill, food portion size runs large, and staff are really friendly. Great place to study or hang out.

Off the main streets so no car noise and with an unbeatable ambience whether out- or inside. Dont expect the world, just a cup of coffee or tea and some friendly faces.

Coffee and hot chocolate are great and the service. Restrooms are pig styes, and the wooden porch needs maintenance... lots of holes in which chair legs fall through.
