First off, the photos above are not images of the Pearl Garden Restaurant in San Ramon. I was just there last night, and it does not look anything like the above photos. Second, The food was awful and very disappointing. I have had truly authentic Chinese cuisine and Pearl Garden Restaurants was not even close. If people think this is chinese cuisine...they should try Koi Palace in Dublin. WAY BETTER! and then there is also Uncle Chungs Szechwan in Pinole, CA (East Bay off Appian Way.) Their food is fresh and delicious. But if you really want dynamic food and dim sum...go to Ton Kiang in San Francisco off Geary Street. The food is fabulous. Pearl Garden was just a waste of money and time. WIsh we had celebrated anywhere but at Pearl Garden for a special birthday. Oh well...lesson learned...and well never go back. Lastly, there was the girl taking orders...who was just rude.......very poor customer service especially when they cant put your food in the proper container when requested. When you dont see tables filled...that is a clear sign....we should have ditched this place as there was only 3 tables with a few people. Good luck!

I LOVE this place! I always end up spending $40 or so every time I come here because I HAVE to get several different dishes. Their walnut prawns are FANTASTIC. And their sesame chicken melts in your mouth. And they have different types of chow fun, so I always end up getting two, one with and one without gravy (double the fun, har har). EDIT 2/4/09: I first reviewed this place in October 2008, but I just had to add that out of the 2 years I lived in the area I had it delivered for the first time last night. Of course I was worried because my address is fairly new and doesnt come up on most maps when I try to have things delivered (i.e. pizza). I offered to just pick it up but they were willing to take down directions. The lady told me it would be there in 30 minutes - 10 minutes later it arrived. AMAZING!!!

Wow! this has got to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in the San Ramon or Bay Area for that matter. Everytime I order to go; they tell me 10 minutes and DONE! =). The owners are friendly and out of the 10+ times I have been there, they are consistent. Walnut prawns are a favorite and the Hunan Chicken is something to try (they say spicy but it is not...to me at least). The standard House Fried Rice and House Chow Mein are a meal in themselves. Its a good restaurant and I had to review it since good restaurants sometimes do not get the credit it deserves. Before Emmys in San Francisco changed hands and moved out of the neighborhood I thought Id never find another Chinese restaurant as good. Check them out. Oops! It is passed ten minutes, gotta grab my order to go. =)

The best thing about Pearl Garden is their attentive, friendly service. Been going here off and on for 9 years. The wait staff is efficient and does cater to your needs (comes by to fill your water, takes away dirty dishes, and puts your check after they serve you lunch without asking). Food comes out fast and is piping hot. But the food in general, hence the 3 stars, is a tad greasy and they use a lot of soy sauce. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Portions are good size. Pearl Garden does know how to make "dry" chow fun ("no gravy") and anything served "salt and pepper" (aka for deep fried) is good. The small parking lot can get full during meal times.

My wife and I have been visiting Pearl Garden for over 10 years now. The first time we went was because it was right down the street from where we lived. We have since moved but when we want the best Chinese food in the east bay we travel 45 minutes to get to the Pearl Garden. The Hunan dishes are the best I have ever encountered and that includes dozens of places we have tried in San Franciscos Chinatown. The service has always been fantastic and we have never found a dish we didnt like. If you dine in or get it to go you will NOT be disappointed.

I have been to a number of chinese restaurants in San Raman, SF, and other places such as in chicago and indiana. So far this is the best place. The dishes are so delicious and the price is reasonable. Besides, the soup before the dishes and the sweet soup are also very good. I am sure the chef devotes himself/herself to the dishes and everything he/she has cooked. I am suprised that there are not many reviews for it. you ought to try it!!!

Food is usually very good..fresh and well prepared, but cannot be confident of that.. we have had some disappointing experiences where everything was over or under-cooked it seemed, and flavors not right. Their prices have always been at the top of the range, but at the beginning of September prices jumped and additional 10 to 30 %, so I think this long and loyal patron will be moving on.

When we walked in we were greeted nicely, they answered all our questions and helped with menu items. We put in a order for take out, ordered a glass of wine while waiting for our order (since it was a 6 item order) but not even 10 mins later our food came out before we could even finish our wine! Food is excellent and they totally hooked up the sweet & sour sauce.

My family ate here for over 10 years. Always love their northern chinese food (dumpling, noodle, fried rice etc). Staff are friendly. They do get busy, especially at weekday and Sat lunch. Dinner menu is standard, nothing fancy but good food. Weekday lunch menu is good also and I love their Kung Pao and Orange Sesame chicken.

Weve never eaten at the restaurant....we use their delivery service. Over the past 10 years there have been issues with inconsistency in flavor but we let them know and they fix everything. Tasty food, fast delivery and good prices Id recommend them to any local resident.

The people are great and thats where it ends. Boxes and junk are piled everywhere. The beef is rubbery and the seseme chicken was gooey and tough. Yes, the picture above is the correct place but there has to be better chinese close by.

Delicious as usual! Very friendly and quick service. We had the spicy peanut sauce dumplings and kung pow shrimp and they were very good.

I agree with all the rave reviews here and I have to say I think the potstickers are just about the best in the bay area.
