The petit black magic cake was pretty good. A bit firm and not quite as moist as I like, but tasty and not too sweet. The chai latte was not bad either. Rich and creamy; not as spicy as I like but a good balance for most people, I imagine. I would get both again. The Belgian chocolate chip cookie wasnt very good - something about the flavor - just not enough? I much preferred the black magic cake. Gluten free goods are available; I cant comment on them as I didnt try any. I couldnt access the wifi, but didnt ask if there was a password for customers to use. The bar seems well stocked and includes wine options, although I didnt investigate. Friendly staff. Spacious venue.

Dont bother coming here. The owner goes around to every table to make sure youre not eating any outside food even if you bought a drink. So if you have any dietary restrictions and need to eat your own food, dont waste your time here. The owner also asked another patron to buy another drink in order to continue sitting in the cafe because he was finished with his first drink. Considering the place was half empty, there was no need to kick people out. I felt very unwelcome. Not worth the trouble for mediocre drinks.

This is an amazing coffee shop / wine bar. Admittedly, it is a little on the pricey side, but this is definitely one place where the "juice is worth the squeeze". The workers seem to love their job, and are very knowledgeable about the products. So, ask away! A personal favorite drink is Kona made via French Press. It is silky smooth, and the flavors of the coffee are truely brought out with the technique. It is like you are eating the bean. Coffee lovers give it a shot, and you wont be disappointed.

Good coffee and coffee drinks (which i guess would be the most important factor for a coffee shop). The space is large, almost a little too cavernous for a coffee shop. The owner, who was manning the register when I went, was a little cold and unfriendly but acceptable - He did bring our drinks over to our table, so cant say it was bad service overall. There is also a wine bar "add-on" which didnt look too interesting, but had a consistent stream Russian-speaking folks stopping by.

A nice little coffee house to have a quiet drink, it has a very relaxed European vibe unlike some of its busier upbeat neighbours. My friends and I came for an afternoon brunch on the open table outside, it was great for people watching while listening to live jazz from across the street. We shared some chocolate cake, lamington, almond cake and a strawberry rhubarb cake amongst us. They were a tad pricey but all very delicious.

Best coffee house in downtown San Mateo! Love their ham, egg and cheese croissants! Bring your laptop if you want to do some work, read the paper, or just people watch. Great atmosphere, great service, great coffee, and they even have the best baked goodies and deli. And if you arent in the mood for coffee, have a drink. Kaffeehaus also has one of the best beer and wine bars, with many fine imported selections!

Poor service! I waited 15min for an espresso and a sandwich. When I inquired about the delay I was told by the barista that meals take about 7min to cook, which does not explain why I was still waiting for my sandwich and my espresso. I was given the wrong sandwich with an attitude by the barista with dark hair. Strike three. Go somewhere else.

I really like the space here, its really open with lots of seats. Everytime Ive had the coffee its just been okay. I find the flavored lattes too sweet, but am okay with the americano. They have a good assortment of food though baked goods, sandwiches, salads, etc. The staff is also really nice.

3 stars because they stay open later than any other cafe. Good wifi, great for studying. ...Prices seem high for pastries and cookies, also caprese sando was just meh. First 4 things I tried to order for dinner tonight were unavailable - sold out. Bummer. Good chill spot overall.

We came for coffee and lunch. It was lively, but there was still plenty of seating inside and outside. The coffee was mediocre. The tuna melt was delicious, and the beet salad was good. The decor is quirky, and there are local artists paintings on the wall.

A huge variety of tea options brewed with whole tea leaves at the right temperature in a pot and an apparatus with a candle underneath to keep your tea warm while you complete your work or studies. Relatively quiet spot. Wine bar and very good coffee.

My Cafe Mocha White Chocolate was delicious, and I would definitely come back to order that again, as well as try out different pastries. Also, this cafe is a great, quiet space to study -- plenty of tables and not too crowded.

This place has great, fair trade coffee, delicious pastries, free wi-fi, and a pleasing decor. It is refreshing to be able to go to a unique, local coffee shop that is not part of one of the cookie-cutter chains.

Love this place for coffee, wine, beer, Wi-Fi, and meetings. Not so thrilled about its prices or service but who am I to complain. Its like my caffeinated version of Cheers, except nobody knows my name.

The owner personally handed me my toast which was very nicely presented on the plate, with garnish, etc. In my eyes, anyone who goes above and beyond for presentation deserves my business!

Awesome local coffee shop with quality coffee, a good selection of pastries and plenty of room to work. Its especially refreshing to pay less than $5 for a coffee and a croissant.

Nice coffee house with a great space. Their coffee drinks are good and they have beer and wine in the afternoon. This is my second favorite coffee option in San Mateo.

I live the large doors that open the interior space to the outside, and that they have water for dogs. The almond milk lattes are good, and the pumpkin cake too.

Great ambiance and tasty mochas. A nice place to go and spend some time. A great contrast to grab-and-go coffee places that make you feel stressed and cramped.

I enjoyed the atmosphere here and could easily spend a couple hours here studying. Had some halva with my blooming tea and was pleased with both.

Quiet place that serves beer & wine too! Eclectic selection (such as Dogfish Punkin Ale in the fall) shows they know what they are doing.

Had cappuccino & almond pound cake. Everything is perfect. Coffee very rich. Cake European style. Not typical Safeway sugar rush.

The tuna melt is their signature sandwich, if you ask me; nothing like it anywhere else at a coffeehouse level! A MUST TRY/HAVE!
