Do not go to this place for its bar. Physically abusive, rude staff. Went to this bar last night and while i was standing by the bar waiting for a drink an employee came out from behind the bar and bumped into a college kid with his girlfriend. After turning to face the employee and asking "what?" the employee then shoved the kid hard enough to knock him over. His girlfriend who was standing next to him then asked as i think most people would "what the hell?" the employee then proceeded to SHOVE THE GIRL TWICE, the second time hard enough to cause her to fall over backwards over the bar that was situated a few feet behind her. Granted the bar was busy but the staff and the employee made no attempts to reconcile. The next day i called to ask to speak to a manager, i was told "we dont have a manager" big surprise... but i was told i would receive a call back from the owner later. Later that day i was called, but by the employee who had shoved the girl, he told me he was sorry AND THAT HE HAD BEEN DRUNK, but then proceeded to CUSS ME OUT after learning i didnt know the girl. There are plenty of bars in san luis, ones that dont hit women, called me old fashioned but i find this very disturbing.

I have been going to Black Sheep for a long time, and I have really loved the atmosphere until last night. I had dinner there with my family and the "owner" or so he said cussed me and my family out. He also encouraged a lot of patrons to try to intimidate us to leave...and when I say intimidate, that is putting it nicely. I got cussed out about 2 inches from my face by the "owner" and his staff (mind you, I had not had one drink all night and I am a female). We had been there for 4 hours prior not causing any problems and tipping our waitress very well. The waitress was wonderful. The owner verbally abused me and my family and to say the least, it was not an enjoyable experience. I suggest that if you would like to be treated in any sort of nice way that you avoid this place like the plague. They are very loyal to their patrons that all seem to be "regulars" or alcoholics if you will that like to cuss people out. And if you are anywhere different than the status quo, dont expect to be treated very fairly let alone humanely.

Thursday night at the Black Sheep, great spot for a burger and black and tan. Someone was smoking a cigar in the patio. Im not an anti- smoking Nazi, but cigar smoke over dinner isnt a good thing. I asked him to put it out. He was very accommodating, however, the woman who identified herself as the manager, got irate. She said the smoking ban in SLO didnt include their private property. She refused to take our order, or even give us her name. She even told us to not come back. Ordinarily, Id have been upset, but it was obvious that the woman was seriously over reacting. If I were the owner of the Black Sheep, I would be concerned about their "manager" and as a patron of SLO restaurants, you can be sure that there are many places that Ill be going to downtown and the Black Sheep is not one of them. Hope the owners know how their staff treats customers.

The BEST Mac n cheese and awesome fries. Good beer on tap and a well stocked bar. Low key inside with a patio in the back. The crowd isnt all college students, which is somewhat rare for a bar in SLO. The table service can be slow if its a busy night (1-2 waitresses for the whole bar), but as long as youre not in a rush, its no big deal!

Nice bar with good balance of beer and liquor selections. Has an older, townie vibe with college students popping in and out. Has a super nice back patio where its easy to talk and have a beer even later in the night. It never exceeds the capacity of the seating because there isnt much standing room.

Buffalo Mac and Cheese is amazing! They have awesome food here during the day. They also have a super dope back patio to sit on as well. Definitely worth checking out for their food, then coming back for drinks later. One of the places I like to start at when going downtown for the evening.

I dont know whats wrong with the people who rate this place poorly. its one of the best bars in SLO. sure, its a little bit pricier than some of the other bars, but the crowd is always stellar for people who actually have jobs. the cocktails are inventive and the patio is pretty awesome too.

We were on vacation and decided to stop by and have a few beers. We walked in on a Wednesday night , there was a good amount of friendly people with good vibes ! The bartenders working had a great attitude and it made for a great night ! We will be back for sure .

Good food decent but slow service. A group of us came in during lunch and waited over 45 minutes for burgers and sandwiches. Multiple people who came in later than I did ordered and received food first. Ended up having to get food to go.

Awesome place for hanging out with friends over great food! The nachos plate is huge. I recommend the carnitas. The mac n cheese with spicy wings is something you eat at least once because its so darn tasty.

One of the local favorites, black sheep is always at the top of the list for getting a beer or drink in downtown slo. Sit in the back for that enclosed patio experience on a nice day or night.

Had good food ranging from build your own mac n cheese to fish tacos. The seating was a little tight but the outdoor patio was nice and our waitresses was very nice and and personable.

Great old bar. Traditional look and good selection. Fair prices. Perfect comfort food. Like everywhere in slo, nice staff and customers. Only negative is the kitchen can be slow.

Great service, solid cocktails, good food. Cozy pub ambience (with old-fashioned copper bar top) when its not full of college kids. Decent amount of semi-outdoor patio seating.

Fun, dive-y bar with good drinks, specialty cocktails, serving comfort food. Service was good even though it was really busy, our waitress was still very nice and attentive.

One of the smaller bars in SLO. Not as many people, normally. So if youre into more low-key bars, this is the place. Has a good selection of alcohol and a nice patio.
