When you go to eat at any restaurant and you finish your delicious food, and then instead of just paying the bill you place another order of other items you didnt try, I think is a pretty good sign that the food was excellent. That happened to my family and myself at Alhamra!! I agree that the place is very modest inside, but the food makes up for it many times over. If you can overlook that and enjoy your company and food then you should be ok. Is not that its dirty but more of old furniture and so so lighting. Now to the food, any curry item I think is simply delicious, creamy, great aromas and tender pieces of chicken (which is the item we order the most). The chicken Tikka Masala and the chicken Chana are incredible!! The vegetarian section is really tasty also, my son loves the Mushroom Mutter is excellent. The Tandoori chicken and prawns are succulent, the meat on each super tender and just full of great flavor. Nan, ohhh the nan, I think they make each order as it is ordered, perhaps I am wrong but it tastes fresh and great!! The first time we went there the server was confused as to why we ordered like 4 different styles of it, he even said that it was a lot of food, but we love tasting different things. The vegetable Samosas are big and delicious, the sauces they bring for them, one red and the green sauce are superb. I also tried the Papadam, which is a sun dried lentil flavored wafer, which to me had a strong and yet delicious cumin flavor. All in all, an excellent food experience, and the prices are really good for the quality of food you are getting, the portions are not huge and you leave feeling satisfied. At least for us is worth the 29 mile drive to have delicious food!!

If you enjoy dosa, Idli, sambar or the chutneys that accompany them: STAY AWAY FROM ALHAMRA FOR SOUTH INDIAN FOOD. Ive eaten and enjoyed South Indian food for over twenty years. In SF Ive consistently enjoyed traditional South Indian foods like dosa, idly, etc. at "Udupi Palace". A few months ago a sign appeared in Alhamras window announcing the offering of "South Indian Vegetarian Food". Ive eaten and enjoyed the North Indian -Pakistani style food at Alhamra for about 15 years and found the food to be tasty and freshly prepared (right in the front window of the store). I placed an order for Idli and the person handed it to someone in the back kitchen who promptly closed the curtain. Next I heard what sounded like and would later find was in fact the repeated cycling of a microwave oven. A few minutes later I was served a plate of four small Idli with a bowl of sambar. The sambar was thin salty and peppery-hot. The Idli was tough, salty and dry.The two small blobs of of what was supposed to be chutney, neither had any resemblance to traditional coconut-ginger-mint chutney. One was salty and the other sugary sweet, both were the consistency of tooth paste. When I asked if the idly had been microwaved they said yes. When I told them how awful the food was, they said nothing and offered nothing to correct the situation. I left a plate with three idli, seven dollars less in my pocket and a promise to warn the next unsuspecting person to STAY AWAY FROM ALHAMRA FOR SOUTH INDIAN FOOD.

This was only my second time having Indian food and it was underwhelming. I came here on a Friday night around 8pm and the restaurant was pretty empty with only two other parties. We grabbed a table and looked over the menu. The restaurant offered all the standard menu items that most Indian restaurants offer. We ordered Tikka Masala, Tandori Chicken Leg, Nan, and a side of Seasoned Rice. The tikka masala barely had any flavor. The Tandori chicken was juicy, but really spicy outside. The nan was typical and the rice just tasted like plain basmati rice with no seasoning. The restaurant was dingy and run down. The bathroom was in worse condition. With dim lighting and dirty walls, I couldnt wait to get out of there. I would not come back here again.

Weve been ordering delivery from Alhamra for a while and its been the best we could find for a long time. Unfortunately, the food has been inconsistent, delivery usually takes an absurd 90 minutes or more to arrive, and its often lukewarm at best. Sometimes it tastes good, other times its very bland (vindaloo, curry, and tikka masala). A new place has opened in the area and weve switched to them. Were MUCH happier with this other place. I cant think of a reason wed go back to Alhamra. I kind of want to give them three stars because we ordered from them so often, but since wed never seek to go there again, I realize its only worth two. maybe 2.5 to be fair.

We (4 people) ate there yesterday (7/30/2011): Food was good (8/10): Keema Naan- good, spicy. Aloo Naan - good. Tandoori chickev - very good. Tandoori prawn - good Prawn biryani - average. Chicken Tikka masala - very good. Service - very very slow and the food arrived one by one for each of us with long waits in between. Some dishes were forgoten and we had to remind them and even the coke had to be reminded. The owner/waiter hardly looked at us, didnt smile and seemed to be indifferent :( We dont think to come back and hope to better luck in the future with check please recommendations :)

I am a food lover and love to had Indian food from different places, but It was worst food i ever i had in my life, i ordered to go on July 28th 2016 as following : Half Chicken Tandoori, Goat Curry & Tow Plain Naan. when i opened a packet i found only one and half leg pieces of Chicken, Goat Curry was Ok, but about naan i found all burned and i have to bye other bread from market. I suggest to Manager/owner, please check all the food before sending deliver or To go. so no one can complain like me in future.

Visiting a friend in the area, and this is where we went. Friend is vegetarian, I am not. Alhamra has a great selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian items, with the food being some of the better Indian food I have experienced. Naan was perfect, and all the food portions were reasonable since Indian food can be quite heavy on the belly. Only reason for 1 less star is that it seemed to take an above average time for our order to come out. Other than that, I would eat here again!

I ordered a meal to be delivered and it was 12 dollars when the man arrived I handed him a 20 expecting change instead he looked at me like I was dumb when I asked for my change instead he just walked away with an 8 dollar stolen tip not good manners very rude, also the food was not made properly too much curry the masala not enough chicken in it either., I wouldnt even advise a starving homeless man to go here.

Tried this place twice now, the flavors are good but the quality of the chicken isnt worth what you pay, and the portions are small. I was disappointed to buy a mixed vegetable meal that turned out to be all rice with a few peas and potatoes in it, and some of the rice had hard chunks. There is a weird attitude at this place. I wont be getting my curry fix at this place anymore
