This was my last stop in San Diego before my flight home. Reading reviews I was excited as breakfast is my favourite meal. I had the standard breakfast affair (O.B. Breakfast) and was disappointed. When I went to order, they informed me the kitchen was too busy, so they could not do poached eggs. Looking around, there were 3 other people in the restaurant at that time. By the time I left, it had 6 people in the restaurant. There was only 1 piece of small toast, when usually there is 2, but that is minor. I ordered potatoes with it, and on my plate was still semi cold store bought has browns (the solid rectangular kind), which looked like they were cooked in a george forman grill. The worst part of the meal was the bacon. It had clearly been microwaved, and was so overcooked it would crumble when you touched it. This fantastic meal took 30 min to be served to me. The reason for 2 stars vice 1 is because of the coffee. It was fantastic and I would go again for it alone, but I wouldnt order food.

Let me tell ya this place blows. I stood in line for about 10 min no problem with that. I politely asked the server for a plain hot black tea. Thats when the servers attitude got real crappy. They were smiling at first then it felt like "how dare you come in here and order tea" Then it got worse when I declined the fancy list of available teas. I just wanted a basic lipton tea bag black tea. I was made to feel like I was loser cause I didnt know the fancy lingo. I was totally nice to the server even with the crappy attitude they gave me. Now I know it wasnt just me, because my friend with me who ordered next and ordered a fancy coffee received totally different and much kinder attitude. My friend even noticed the poor treatment I got. Cause he asked me what I may have said or done. I didnt. Even at a cost of my basic hot tea was $3.25. Needless to say I will not be returning nor is my friend and possibly others I tell this story to. Remember kindness goes hand in hand with success.

Awsome location! Prime realestate for a cofee shop! I come here when i tour california w/ my band. i gave it five stars because ive been coming here for three years and i like too look at the BI G G picture. .the first two years were awsome that i came here but . .it feels like they switched owners or management since my last visit. above my comment someone wrote that the waitresses were allways grumpy . .«««.grumpy»» is an understatement. the wait staff with the exeption of one employee that stood out were grumpy» rude»unkempt» unsanitary» and lacking in inter personal skills. This is why outrageously large coorperations like starbucks are putting mom and pop coffee shops out of business . .they dont have better coffee. they have better staffing techniqes. also there is no where confortable at ALL anymore in this place to sit like nowhere

Stopped in to study and work on my laptop and their WiFi was down. When I asked the woman at the counter if they were having Internet problems, she said that it was acting up. I politely expressed my frustration, as I came here to work and I wouldnt have bought anything or set up all of my work if I had known, she was short with me and said "theres nothing I can do about that." Someone else had confronted her about it a few moments later and she acted annoyed and said she would reset it again. It ended up working after that, but the way she spoke to me wasnt kind. And it is disheartening to have someone so dismissive about an issue that a guest has with their business. Not the way to handle this kind of situation. I left shortly after. On an upside, my smoothie was yummy.

If and when I go off the grid, Ill still be getting my lattes, scones and sandwiches at the Newbreak. Great, friendly, calm, helpful staff, cool, quiet, approachable customers make this place my home away from home. My wife and I vacation in SD CA almost every year, and this is where we spend our days sipping on great coffee, relaxing, reading, chatting with interesting passersby, yes and occasionally even getting work done on the free wifi. Im a professor at Bellevue University (Nebraska) and since most of our classes are on-line, I spent about 10 days "working" here last summer while my wife was in a local teaching conference. Too bad I cant just rent out the couch by the woodstove and just stay here 24/7/365.

Its a coffee shop. I disliked the seating, there are no visible charging stations, I dont recall WiFi but I may be wrong. The coffee is par for the area, the amenities less than those of Starbucks and the prices are slightly higher. As I recall, they lack a restroom as well. Long story short: get your coffee to go. "No hot water" policy. Nice to see you NIMBY, OB! One star off for that leaves... 1 star. Equal coffee but worse amenities and higher prices than Starbucks [the benchmark 3star coffeeshop], plus official, but not subtle enough, NIMBYism of management or staff. Starbucks is literally 1 block away. Go there instead.

Really nice, local, independent coffee shop. I used to try and work here, but theres just too much hustle and bustle for me to concentrate. But thats me. There are a ton of students here using the single tables. They do hold the tables near the windows as reserved for larger groups which I can understand. Ive only had the breakfast here, and that was delicious. Just basic eggs, but its always nice to find a little greasy spoon that isnt just completely overloaded with butter. I would also recommend the smoothies which are at least tricking me into thinking Im being healthy.

If you are looking for a legit neighborhood coffee shop, look no further. Their coffee is deep and fresh, they have a wide selection of great teas, and their specialty drinks will make your girls panties wet. The people that frequent this place are down to earth... not your snobby starducks crowd. What could be better than sipping your favorite quality beverage with your love while embracing the majestic sea breeze rolling in through the window?!

Tasty teas and strong coffee. Good sandwhiches, soups and breakfast options. Laid-back atmosphere & a wide array of interesting people. Very OB. Its casual, pick your table, order at the counter... overall, i think Newbreak is one of the best cafes in town. I cant believe the bad reviews, but I dont think Im as prissy or picket about my OB as those with complaints..

Was expecting just a quick, nothing special breakfast but I was more than surprised when I got my food. It was delicious and decadent! They have a variety of coffee, drinks and breakfast. From normal eggs to a Greek inspired bagel (which I got) to a platter of unnamed but delicious looking food. Great location, great staff- will definitely come again.

My wife and I stopped here while staying at Point Loma for a little vacation. Great spot right on the beach, the service was excellent and the food was great. I allowed the barista to choose a drink for me and it was an excellent choice. They had a massive selection of tea which my wife loved. Definitely would recommend to friends
