May 11, 2014 - Mothers Day I decided to go to Alta for a cup of Chai, WiFi, and some study time. The chai latte does not disappoint, so please try it. But I am writing this review because I received the WORST customer service of my life. Its 1:00PM and Alta isnt crowded. Probably 60% full. i usher my friend from out of state to grab a table. I then turn to the barista to place my order. However I am rudely interrupted by a woman who seems to be the owner-- shes at least twice as old of the baristas and talked to me like she owned the place. Heres the dialogue: Me: Hello! Ill have a-- Woman: EXCUSE ME! You have to check in! Me: Oh Im sorry Im ordering for the both of us right now. Woman: Are here for breakfast or coffee? Me: Just chai tea lattes Woman: Are you here to study? Me: Yes. Woman: You cant sit at the table. You have to sit at a smaller table. I remained composed and just took it and said okay. There wasnt a line or any signs saying that there were Mothers Day reservations. There isnt even a sign that says, "Please be courteous and use the small tables if you can." Nothing. The best part, all of the baristas dropped their jaws in complete shock. They were just as shocked as I was to have been so rudely treated and told that I couldnt sit at a particular table. Again, it wasnt crowded. It made no sense. So I decide to just go outside if the inside tables are so precious. The woman followed me outside and, again, tells me that I could not sit at a particular table because its too big for the two of us. Im sorry, its a sunny hot day and I want to sit in the shade. I return inside and the baristas are talking amongst themselves in hushed tones about how the owner is treating me. I kindly ask to to-go my order because its obvious I am not welcome to study here. If youre going to boast being a quality Mom & Pop shop of Balboa Island, please come with the service! I have never been so disrespected. Said in the colloquial speak of Southern California, "I cant even."

OH HELL NO! I AM NEVER GOING BACK. I have been here couple of times, and was excited to show my friend this small coffee shop for the first time. Me and my friend came here to grab lunch and to catch up, asks the server if we can sit outside, Girl server: do you want lunch? My friend: we just want some quick bites. Me: Can we sit outside? Girl server: so lunch? (With an attitude) Boy server: (out of no where in the rudest tone of voice) Its a YES or NO QUESTION. WOW, EXCUSES ME!?, I said. Then turned around and left my ass. I asked you a question as a customer and instead of answering my question you give me a series of smart remarks ? And tell my friend its a yes or no question? That will be the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Never have a server ever offended me this much. I felt bullied by the two baristas, and all attention in the cafe was shifted to me and my friend. Everyone was looking, and wow, just wow. I am speechless at the attitude and sass presented at this place. you can kiss my wallet goodbye ALTA or should I say ATITTUDE. THE RUDEST TWO SERVERS I HAVE EVER MET. Dont recommend going.

I tried to order to go this morning before work, but since there was such a huge line I dont get to eat before I have to work now. I think it is ridiculous that if you order food to go you have to wait behind a huge line out the door of people ordering their coffee. It takes 2 minutes to just pay and pick up your food. It will take forever to wait behind a group of people invidivudially ordering a drink due to the time it takes to make the drink itself.. basically they need a pick up station or people need to move to the side after they pay and order their drink while a cashier is all ready for the next customer, not stand there until their drink is all ready to go... dont want to be here all day.

The coffee is poor quality, coffee tastes like its watered down and their espresso drinks are also weak, tastes like half a shot rather than one. Only reason it isnt 1 star is because the vibes are good. They also lack a basic pastry selection. The girls they have working there at night are lazy at making drinks, they gave me a medium cappuccino in large cup that was filled to the top with froth. Worst cappuccino Ive ever had, they were too lazy to wipe off the froth and it was very weak, and they didnt stir the vanilla in my friends vanilla chia latte so it was all stuck at the bottom. Poor coffee and poor service.

I LOVE this place. I usually dont get the food but when I do its always the chicken quesadilla. There drinks are very good. Try the Chi soy vanilla latte...blended, hot, or on ice. The strawberry lemonade slush is very good as well. The only problem I have had with this place was one of the waitresses... blonde curly hair. She was extreamly rude go begin with then She kicked us out just because one of us had an UNOPENED monster energy drink for later.. and we had ALL ordered our drinks already. I havent seen her there in forever tho so hopefully she got fired. Other then that I love this place.

Alta is a sweet coffee shop with a sleepy beach town atmosphere. They have amazing lattes and delicious breakfast. I recommend the Eggs Benedict for breakfast or the Twice Baked Potato for dinner. I actually even prefer the atmosphere better at nights. The place is calm and filled with smalls lights - except for the nights when they have Open Mic. Then its a bit of a different scene. The reason I did not give five full stars is because the service can be slow. Dont come here when youre in a hurry!

This place is simply amazing. Healthy options, yummy smoothies made with healthy ingredients you have to try the Alta Coffee & Restaurant, great study spot as well. There are two levels, top has outlets, bottom doesnt. There is an outside areas as well. Plenty of seating and tons of snacks you can buy, and you could even pick up some grocery items. They also make their own food. The inside is clean, brick and wood. It is almost too good to be true. Will definitely be back.

I read reviews on this place people had mixed feeling because of staff, but the beverages seemed to trump the service. I decided to go because I read several reviews recommending the Chai Latte. So I thought Id give it a go, well I am glad I did. Spiced Chai Latte did not disappoint. It was delicious. It was hot, but not too hot where I had to wait several minutes before sipping, but hot enough. Staff was friendly and fast. Cute little place. I will be back =)

Frequently go here for breakfast. The food is wonderful; real eggs, fresh pancakes, and seasoned to perfection. I am shocked at some of these reviews. My guess is those people are impatient. Sometimes it can take more time than other places but that is because the food is real/fresh and it is a small place with few people working there. When they get busy it can take a little longer than other places but IT IS WORTH IT!
