Im pretty torn about Mustards Grill. On one hand, it is one of the highly rated and recommended restaurants in Napa, and on the other I had a very polarizing experience, so Im not sure exactly where I land. Maybe I just need to go back and give it a second chance... THE GOOD Variety. There is an awesome variety of dishes and ingredients to choose from. There will be something for even the pickiest palates. Theres meat (several different types), seafood, veggies, light, heavy, acidic, salty, you name it. Also Mustards prides itself in fresh and homegrown ingredients (as you can tell from its garden in the back) so you know youre getting the good stuff. Mushroom Tamale. Very simple -- just corn masa, mushrooms, cilantro, sunflower seeds, with a wonderful green sauce. Light, refreshing, and a great way to start the meal. Rabbit. Cooked perfectly so that its not very gamey, great accompaniments. Our server was very nice and beared with us during our very indecisive process of choosing a glass of wine for the meal. Actually, props to the entire staff for being very nice and courteous through the entire meal. THE BAD / ENIGMATIC We also ordered the lamb, which came two ways, the loin and the chop. It was definitely undercooked because I could barely cut through it because of the connective tissues. It even looked raw. When I told our server, she was very apologetic and admitted right away that it was not cooked properly. She took the dish away promptly. The manager was the one to come back and was very apologetic. I appreciated that. They definitely tried to deal with the situation with grace. But the interaction was very weird. For example, he asked me whether I wanted a whole new dish or for them to put the meat back on the grill. Well, we already split the dish up into two parts and the entire thing was a mish mash of the meat and veggies. So I didnt even think it made sense to offer the latter option. If youre gonna give an option, ask if the customer wants a whole different dish. In any case, I asked to have them prepare a new one. When it came back, he wanted to make sure it was made to the way I wanted. While I appreciate this, I really just wanted to be cooked exactly medium rare. His exact words were (paraphrased I guess), "is it made the way you want or do you want to cook it a little more?" That leads me to think that they dont know how to cook lamb medium rare. I was very confused by this. In any case, I decided to keep it and it was fine. The meat was very good and I liked all the veggies it came with. We decided to end the meal with the famous meringue pie. I dont know if this is just my bad luck or whatever, but I found a bug in it :( Im sure they didnt put it there intentionally or that the restaurant has too many bugs flying around. I think maybe the bug was attracted to the candle or the meringue and just got stuck. I dont know but it was weird and definitely added insult to injury. Objectively, Mustards Grill is a very good restaurant, if everything were executed properly, which Im sure 99% of the time it is. If I come back, I definitely want to try the pork chop since its the most popular item on the menu (judging by pictures).

Service was great. The reason I am only giving three stars is simple, two of the dish preparations were the worst I have seen in Napa. Unless you are a starving rabbit. I ordered two appetizers, the crab cakes were very good and well presented with a spice Aolie sauce . But the fried calamari was a the first of two dishes that I had major issues with. The plate was literally a mountain of shredded raw cabbage slaw with no calamari in sight. I am not exaggerating here. I needed to use my bread plate to clear it off the Squid. This dish could have been better if the roles were reversed, calamari on TOP of a light bed of cabbage could have worked. Now sometimes when you order in a restaurant you have never been to you hit it right and other times you fail well both my wife and son failed. They ordered the Coho Salmon tostadas. Ok when in California you think any Mexican style food is going to rock. When the two dishes came out we were all in disbelief. The plate was duplicate of the Calamari but using purple Cabbage. The food itself was no where in sight. I watched the two of them shovel the cabbage to there bread plates to start the search for there entree. Underneath was a soggy tostada with black beans and fish on top. Ironically as we watched the other entrees go to other tables they looked amazing. My dish the Halibut special with fresh beets was fantastic. Next visit we will stick to there go to dishes. I hope this review finds the chef.

Lots of 5 Stars on reviews, but not from me. Mustards is in the range of 2 to 3 stars for me. Closer to 2, so I gave it that. The plus side - good casual ambiance. Sort of a clean, stylish, upscale, hole-in-the wall food joint. Very good service, lots of waiters, no waiting, probably to turn tables faster, but thats OK. The negatives - food was very expensive relative to quality. My baby-back ribs came off an old, tough, dead bull. I could barely cut them, and even after I did, I also could barely chew them. Not cooked properly at all. $31 to $32 for that barely edible food item. Taste was OK, but meat was way too dry and tough. Wine is expensive - starting around $15 per glass. Other people obviously disagree with my review, because Mustards was full and lively. But I wont go back. Maybe because Im very politically incorrect. And dont like restaurants simply because they are trendy. They also need to bring good food to the table. Mustards did not. Or have low-priced food. Mustards did not, on that account for me. The waiter Troy was good. About all I can say.

After a relaxing day in the sun, my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to stop for Sunday dinner. We were a bit under dressed but sat at the bar comfortably. The service was very timely and the bartender was really hospitable and friendly. Sweet Corn Tamales: SO GOOD! such a interesting mix of ingredients: wild mushrooms, sweet corn, avocado-cilantro sauce-really light and fresh tasting. Salmon with a fava bean, sweet corn, and white bean ragu: cooked perfectly, so filling and flavorful. Pork Chop: really tender, cabbage and mashed potatoes, pretty standard item but very tasty. Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp: INCREDIBLE. get it! its awesome. Wine selection was pretty good, wish they had beers on draft, not just bottles.

If you are in Napa Valley for wine tastings - this is a must visit place. We stopped in around 1PM, and the place was packed. Luckily we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to free up, and what a great experience! Our waitress was very attentive and so friendly, and the food was unbelievable. We weren’t super hungry, so my wife ordered the tomato salad, which was made with fresh picked heirloom tomatoes (from that morning) from their own garden. That combo with the grilled bread was one of the best tomato dishes I have had. I got the tamales, which were plated so nice and very delicious. I could eat at this place every day - fantastic experience and great service!
