The experience was surreal. It was a blessing to find a place that was open past 11:30, although the experience was very unwelcoming. My buddies and I got a scornful look from the waiters as we walked in, but it didnt matter; we were hungry. This hunger made us oblivious to the fact that the plates and silverware that we got were covered in smudges, and that the restaurant was... eerie (maybe just after midnight though). When the young man came to take our drink orders, we asked for four waters, and they came out with two waters and a sprite. Im not sure if they misinterpreted what we said, or if they were trying to charge extra to the bill. We ordered five dishes, but the last one never got to the table. This was actually good luck, because there were already four massive heaps of food on the table. The one dish that was surprisingly good was the beef chow fun ($7.25 for a huge plate), but the rest were bland. When we asked for the bill, the waiter didnt look us in the eye and grunted at us. The bill did not have any mistakes, accounting for the missing food and the sprite we had to send back. We counted our money while the waiter stood over our table watching us (???) and before we were done, the waiter angrily reminded us to give her $48 when only $40 was down at the moment. Ill just say that were glad to leave safely. Pros: Portion sizes, speed, open late Cons: Weird service, taste, cleanliness

When you first came in it looked okay. You are seated, brought tea, looked over the menu, ordered your food, and wait for the food to arrive makes you notice things you didnt before like the teapot has several chips on its spout, their clientele, the dinnerware is chipped like the teapot. The food arrives and we wait for the waiter to bring us rice bowls. They dont so we ask, it was brought after the second time of asking for it. There wouldnt have been a need to ask if more than a fork was provided. Its rather difficult to manage rice without a spoon or a knife to assist. The next table over from us were the employees eating. They all had spoons with their bowl of food. They should just include it when setting the table. The food wasnt great, the portions seemed small for the price. After the meal, used the facilities as its difficult to find a toilet in Chinatown. Why was I shocked that the toilet needed a major cleaning? I wonder how the kitchen looked. With all the things Id seen I am curious to find out how they passed inspection from the health department?

Hop Woo has the dilapidated Chinese restaurant look. The carpet and the decorations look like they havent been changed since the restaurant first opened. My cousins and I came here for Christmas dinner because one of my cousins thought it would be funny. I still dont see how its funny to eat Chinese food on Christmas, but I wasnt complaining. We had a party of 7 and we wanted about 15 minutes before we were seated. We ordered so much food for dinner, probably because we were feeling the Christmas spirit. We had half a Peking Duck, Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup, Pan Fried Shrimp w/ Walnut in Special Sauce, Whole Tilapia w/ Spicy Black Bean Sauce, Orange Peel Chicken, and a couple other dishes that I dont remember. However, I do remember that the menu was really overwhelming to look at and I just let my cousins decide what to order. The wait staff was very prompt and helpful when we wanted to order additional items or wanted certain sauces. My favorite dish was the Pan Fried Shrimp w/ Walnut in Special Sauce. Everything else was okay.

Chinatown may have lots of restaurants to choose from. Hop Woo ended up being one of the most pleasant and beautiful restaurants Ive eaten at. You can tell the food is delicious by the constant stream of people coming to enjoy a meal here. We were seated promptly, we were given time to look through the menu. Our order was taken and we only waited less than fifteen minutes for our good to be delivered to our table. If you order a drink you have to get your waiters attention as the wait staff are constantly moving about serving other customers. The prices are fair to moderate but the portions are shared between you and your table companions. Overall this was a very positive experience.

The food is incredibly salty but overall edible. A bit pricy but its portions are fair. If you are coming to this restaurant for some good laughs, I highly recommend it. The waiters/waitresses are complete jokes. They are straightforward and have no idea what they are doing. The few managers or what not, roam around inspecting tables like private detectives searching for a criminal, which makes eating very uncomfortable. Not to mention how dirty the environment is. They use the same dirty towels they wipe tables and chairs with to wipe the salt/sauce shakers. The constant loud talking within the workers makes it a headache to even sit at a table for a few minutes.

The food is incredibly mediocre and is highly overpriced for what is given. Table wear is grubby for example my fork was marked with left over stain. The tea pot left with dirt? And the worst of it all the service is so horrid, the waiter and waitress paid no attention to my party and I. Not giving a rats ass about our needs. And at the end our bill was smacked with a tip bill?! They so proudly took a $6.50 tip and when we didnt leave more than what was put on the bill they got offended and angered. Never again will I return. P.S. I highly recommend people to avoid this place and seek a Chinese restaurant of higher quality which there are plenty of in the city.

We never even got to order. I dont know why certain places like this seem like they dont llwant your money. It started great. They seated us gave us the menu some fried noodles and hot tea. The we waited 10 minutes and noone came by to take our order. We raised or hands, called them over and aaid we were ready. A lady said okay, then went tomthe back. We waited another 5 minutes then walked out. I mean they already have a B health rating you this they woukd try to make up for it with some decent service.

This place is hit and miss. The food is ok, but the service is outright awfull. Wait staff is pretty rude and makes assumptions of what you need and really could care less about what you really want and then gets frustrated when you tell them that they should have listened initially when you were ordering. Given that they are open late sometimes its the only place available after shows at the music center and we are stuck going there.

Horrible Service! First time in China Town, I was so excited to try it. We were seated then we sat in our table with 3 menus (12 people in the party) without even being asked for our drink orders for over 15 minutes. Two other partys next to us were sat after us and given drinks within 5 minutes of sitting. Needless to say we got up and walked out. Found a restaurant down the street, Yang Chow, which gave great service!
