This is a great place and right in my neighborhood. I recommend it. But today I had an interesting experience. I went there for lunch and ordered a Reuben sandwich. The menu said "Pastrami, cheese and sauerkraut." Great. I asked the waitress if there was any spread/mustard/mayo on it and she said no. Great. Got the sandwich and it had thousand island on it. I showed the waitress and she said, "Thats the sauerkraut." I thought maybe the sauerkraut was mixed in with the TI but when I looked there really was no sauerkraut at all. I asked her if I could have it remade with no TI and added sauerkraut. She said, "We dont really have sauerkraut." So I had a Reuben with no sauerkraut. Took half home and added my own. Delicious! Dont let this deter you....but if you want a real Reuben, ask if they have sauerkraut yet.

IF YOU WANT HOME COOKING...FRESH SALSA....HOMEMADE JAMS....FRESH SQUEEZED O.J. AND HOMEMADE BREAD PUDDING FOR DESSERT... THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. ALL THEIR FOOD IS FANTASTIC, BUT I CANT SEEM TO GET AWAY FROM THEIR FABULOUS BREAKFAST MENU. SO IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA, STOP BY FOR SOME HOME COOKING, DOWN TO EARTH COMPANY AND JUST GREAT FOOD. ALSO, THERE ARE GREAT LITTLE SHOPS AND BOUTIQUES ALL LINED UP IN A ROW, RIGHT NEXT DOOR. ALSO, A USED BOOK STORE RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!! ENJOY, WE DO.

The pumpkin pancakes (a special) happily were thin like crepes. We also liked the chicken artichoke skillet special. French toast was standard. The home fries arrived at room temperature and cooled quickly. Other than the pumpkin pancakes the other pancakes were regular and blueberry. I would have liked some more creativity, but Village Cafe isnt that kind of place.

My wife and I have been coming to the Village Cafe for years..today we enjoyed a breakfast with my wife having her favorite 2+2+2=2eggs, 2pancakes(thin and yummy),2bacons. My choice was the mexican skillet with jalapenos and ortega chile. The owner of the Village Cafe waited on us and is one of Lakewood/Long Beachs great business owners.

Great food, friendly staff, great service! Looks to be a locals hangout but visitors are welcomed warmly. Stopped in for breakfast based on Google reviews and was not disappointed at all. Good sized portions at a reasonable price. We had coffee at the table literally the second that we had asked for it. The chicken fried steak was perfect!

Very popular place for breakfast on the weekend (no reservations taken - sign up list outside diner) but they do consider their customers and provide complimentary coffee outside while you wait. Its a small diner and has good quality food, alot if loyal patrons which speaks to the quality of food and service.

This place is fantastic. Everyone is friendly including the customers. Our waitress was great, so friendly even with a torn ligament. I highly recommend this place! My breakfast burrito with habanero sauce was very tasty. This is a small place so dont blink or youll miss it!

GO THERE FOR THE BURGER! Its a hand formed, well seasoned beef patty! (not those frozen packaged things) I almost always order my burger with the homemade pasta salad, cuz you can get fries anywhere. Id have to say, "ehh" to the breakfasts, but others seem to enjoy it.

We used to be regulars here but the service quality has really gone downhill. The food is good but after waiting a long time just to get seated we had to wait more to get our drink orders taken. And we had to wait even longer to get our orders served.
