in the past, i used to love the hat and didnt mind paying a little extra for fast tasty food... that is until a month ago when i went through their drive thru and ordered a plain hamburger with ketchup and mustard. i got to the window and the server gave me the bag with some ketchup packets. i asked her to put the ketchup on the burger. she said mustard was on the burger but she was not allowed to put ketchup on an order and called the manager over. i said "i want ketchup on the burger. is that a problem?". he said "we give out ketchup packets for you to do yourself. we dont carry squirt bottles for ketchup. i said "I dont want to do put it on myself. you put mustard on the order... am i being unreasonable?" he said " frankly yes. as you can imagine, if people were to want ketchup on their food, it would dramatically slow down service having to open all the little ketchup packets to place on their order". as he said this, he gestured that the packets would be opened by mouth by the cooks. i could not believe what i was hearing... i told him i thought it was a stupid reason. he said sorry and gave me an owners phone number to call. i take the drink, burger and packets. i call the number and the guy at the other end answers "yeah?" i asked if this was the hat corporate number. the guy says "yeah". i explain the situation at the drive thru and the guy says "we give you all the ketchup packets you want. ketchup squirt bottles? we dont do that." i park to eat my meal. while laying out the burger to dress it with the ketchup, i spill the drink in my car. i was angry. accidents happen but this was something that could have been so avoidable if the burger place i had shown loyalty to for years had the courtesy to reasonably prepare a simple order i was always happy to pay a little extra for. ill never go back. "the hat? i dont do that."

The Hat- Lake Forest location. Ive been a long time fan of Johnnys Pastrami at Crenshaw & Adams in LA but since theyve closed down after 50+ years I thought Id give The Hat a try since theyre right off the 5 freeway on my way to ń from LA. Its a totally different experience; the place is very clean, neat, spacious, nice wooden booths to sit in, very consistent, organized, Corporate Franchise. The food is very tasty; chile tamales, pastrami dip sandwiches, giant bags o fries n onion rings(Love the Onion Rings), etc. Very similar menu to Johnnys. But! And here comes The Big BUT. The portions of pastrami on the sandwiches is very SKIMPY! ! ! Im used to seeing a mountain of meat on the bread and only being able to eat half the sandwich, saving the other half for later. But The Hats sandwich is light-in-the-loaf! Theres as much bread as there is meat. While it is tasty, I could easily eat Two of these and still have room for onion rings and a soda! And Im a skinny guy. So at $9.oo a sandwich its not a good value for your money. Ill have to try some other pastrami places in LA to get my pastrami fix satisfied.

So weve been coming here for the better part of I dont know if 15 years or something however long they have been open and since I can remember and then even the original one in Glendora we love the pastrami dips and a small fry is the equivalent of you know three large Del Taco fries theyre steak fries. Theyre bomb barbecue sauce mixed with their buttermilk ranch is my favorite dipping for the french fries. Definitely enough to feed three people it will feed me my husband and our son. I used to think the guys that worked here that have been working here forever basically lived here. Not sure anymore if theyre still here I only see a lot of women food is still great same quality same portions amazing going to miss it when we move.

Excellent! Warning if you are on a diet dont read the rest of this review. Prepare for extreme pigging out. If you are craving simple dinner food with large portions this is the place. The chili cheese fries are good enough for about four people. It probably weighs about 2 or 3 lbs perfect for a Man vs Food competition. I have tried to eat it myself but only finished about half. This place is known for the famous Pastrami dip. Before eating here Togos was my favorite place for Pastrami. The pastrami is so amazing that I refuse to eat pastrami anywhere else. Highly recommend! Bring some take out to work and you will be the most popular person in the office.

The food is good, however the service can be poor. My wife and I placed an order of Chili fries with pastrami and it took 25 minutes to get them. Apparently they forgot about our order. So after watching person after person who came after us get their food my wife asked about our order and what was their reply? Nothing at all, they all looked at each confused. Then 5 minutes later motion to me that my food is finally ready and said sorry about that. That is not how business should be conducted and not how that mistake should be handled.

I HAVENT BEEN TO THE HAT FOR AWHILE AND PAST BY THE FULLERTON LOCATION SO MADE THAT MY PIC FOR THE FAMILY DINNER.I WENT TO THE MONTCLAIR LOCATION, WHERE MY ORDER WAS 2 PASTRAMI WITH CHEESE A TUNA SAND. AND CHILI CHEESE FRY. FOR ONLY 34 DOLLARS. I WILL ONLY REVIEW MY SANDWICH THAT WAS SUPPOST TO HAVE PICKLES AND SWISS CHEESE THE MEAT WAS DRY AND RUBBERY.THEY MUST USE A NEW CLEAR MUSTARD BECAUSE I COULDNT SEE ANY AND 4 PICKLE CHIPS MADE FOR THE WORST PASTRAMI SANDWICH IHAVE EVER HAD ..... LIVE AND LEARN !

The Hats a decent place, if youre craving something super greasy and heavy. They have some stuff here that is great if youre trying to ward off a hangover (the gravy fries, in particular) but if I come here for lunch, I feel really bad, and it generally will put you out close to $9 for a sandwich and a drink. On the plus side, they do serve Orange Bang here, and Orange Bang is the greatest non-alcoholic drink ever made.

I had never been to this location and it had been years since eating at The Hat. The employees are very friendly and the service was fast. I had the pastrami burger and chili cheese fries. I completely forgot how big the chili cheese fries are.....theyre a meal in itself. The pastrami burger was ok but the chili cheese fries was the winner! Not a bad meal but too expensive.

The hat. So good, so unhealthy. The best pastrami to be had from a chain. The chili cheese fries are the best ive ever had. And will be enough for four people. This particular place is never crowded...which is odd. Ive been to several The Hats in LA and Pasadena and theyre always crazy busy with it being impossible to even find parking. Here, theres always parking.

First time at any The Hat, and their pastrami is amazing! Generous portion of pastrami, shall fries is enough for two or three. The person taking my order even advised I not get the large after I ordered it. The two staff members I interfaced with were very polite, way more than youd expect for a fast food place Will be back soon for those chili fries!
