The Elbow Room is a favorite venue for events sponsored with our local NPR radio station, KVPR. Having heard about this place for years on the radio, we decided to make the two hour drive up from Bakersfield to check it out. We were not disappointed! Our server Alex recommended the happy hour discounted wine selection, and we found the 2013 Murphy-Goode to be an excellent, bold Cabaret Sauvignon with hints of cherry. We had the ribeye and salmon. The aged beef is sourced locally from Coalinga-based Harris Ranch. The salmon was baked and grilled fresh from Vancouvers Skuna Bay. Manager Ann Marie Ruiz gave us a warm personal greeting. Our evening was completed by a Coffee Chocolate Chip Gelato, served "affogato" style with a side shot of espresso. "..And an excellent time was had by all!"

The food here is revolting. I had the salmon Cesar salad. The dressing was way too heavy, the texture of the salmon was so mushy/slimy I couldnt finish it and Ill eat almost anything. The outside patio allows smoking so it stinks, nothing is good about the smell of a cheep cigar. The service is ok, some of the girls are a bit too full of themselves and gossiping is more of a priority than service. The customers seem to be a bit older but not accepting their age too well. "Mutton dressed as lamb" is a saying we have for that back home. I really want to like this place; its got a covered patio, its close to my house, it has beers on tap I like, I always like the music they are playing... But every time I go I wish I hadnt.

I live around the corner from here. Its always a hit or miss. Been going here for over 20 years. Last time I went I ordered a glass of chardonnay, it was 17$. This isnt tavern on the green in NYC, That was a ridiculous price for a basic glad of California wine. They measure their drinks out too, and are not generous. Sometimes the food is great and service is great, sometimes the wait staff is busy on their phone or with each other and ignores customers. Sometimes you get your food on time and its fantastic and sometimes you can wait up to 45 minutes and its not so good. Its a hit or miss with this place. The atmosphere is great and generally friendly staff.

Our small group (9 people) showed up today to celebrate an upcoming wedding. We had some decorations (it was a surprise) and a cake of our own. The staff was great. They were friendly and very accommodating. They were able to sit us in a beautiful private area; the atmosphere was pleasant, we all had an amazing time. Food arrived in no time. Everyone but one of us got their order as expected. When my friend asked if they could fix her order the waitress was very nice. She took it back to the kitchen and brought back what was requested. Overall a great experience. Will definitely go back. Oh! Their Kale, quinoa, avocado salad is AMAZING!

Used to be great. Something is happening with the kitchen. Tonight we waited an hour for Fish & Chips and a Hanger Steak. They werent that busy. The excuse was they had two big parties ahead of us. If they told me that when I arrived, I would have gone elsewhere. No one was sitting at the bar and the restaurant was half empty. Last month, I waited 45 minutes for a house salad with chicken. The excuse was "the chicken". I guess they had to send out for it. Bar staff and wait staff is great. The kitchen has a problem. I hope they figure it out.

No calamari steak? No short ribs? No surf and turf? These and other classics have been replaced with ostensibly more inspired dishes on their dinner menu. The dishes received while edible had some issues; chewy over cooked steak and overly complicated ingredients/sauces that only served to distract from the halibut and shrimp dishes. Moreover, the high prices didnt reflect the quality Im accustomed to. Ive paid less for better quality. Despite the negatives, the service was excellent. Elbow Room please go back to the basics.

Ive been here a few times, and service has generally been very good, but food only decent - not to mention pricey, and drinks even more so. Its usually hard to get excited about anything on the menu. Last night I had the thanksgiving dinner, tasty and very filling, but I ended up with food poisoning afterward. The ham, I bet, since those who had the turkey were fine. I was also shocked when the bill came, and my $40 bottle of wine (last visit) was marked up to $70. Definitely not returning.

I ordered a jack and coke and it came to me no lighter than an iced tea. I said something and asked for a glass of coke with ice and a shot of jack on the side, BUT, unbeknownst to me, I received two orders of a jack and coke plus a shot of jack. The manager said I was yelling at him when I protested this on the bill, and then supposedly called the cops. So, yea dont go here, its horrible. The food was good though.

As much as this is a Fresno staple and will always have its regular following, its not amazing. Its service is pretty good and the food is predictable but its nothing to write home about. I recommend the garlic bread and the chicken in waffles is really good too. Its a great place to go for a drink on the patio during year round as they have misters and a fireplace.

Ive been coming to elbow room for about 12 years. The times have changed, and not for the better. The food is terrible! If you want an ice cold steak this is the place. The atmosphere is congested and stuffy. The waitresses will only come talk to you if you want a drink, dont expect service if you arent drinking. Last time for an old timer like me.

My friend and I went there for a late lunch/early dinner and the restaurant was not busy. But my friends soup came to her cold, and I ordered the steak, and had to ask and wait for a steak knife to eat it. Also, if the mashed potatoes were supposed to have truffle in it, I couldnt taste it at all. A little disappointed in the service.

Attended a birthday party at the Elbow. Outside patio was great, misters, TVs and outside bar were pluses. Friendly staff. Food was most definately overpriced, and not up to my temperature standards. I ordered the fish and chips...Id give them a 6 out of 10. Free shuttle to 18 hotels around the area was super convienient for us.

The drinks and the food were so good the covered patio was kept at a comfortable temperature on a frigid night. The only thing that needed much improvement was the server didnt seem to have much experience. The wait time to order and receive anything was terrible. She shouldnt have been working a party of our size on her own.

It seems like the few times Ive been at this bar & grill I over the years I have a bad experience. I believe the staff here is family and friend connected. So they act how they want. Hostesses with attitude and bartenders that wont pour a little more wine in a glass or wont accept out of state IDs. Stay away.
