Diner-quality food, premium prices... For those who dont know, there are 2 types of brewpubs: 1) The funky, hole-in-the-wall, local joints that dont take themselves too seriously and are all about awesome beer, while providing something simple and reasonable to chomp down on while you enjoy their fresh brew (this is the traditional, American style of brewpub that you will find all over the Pacific NW--the mecca of brewpubs--and in a few places throughout California), 2) The wannabe-upscale, pretentious, profit-driven, California places with corporate overtones. These places might have good beer, and might have good food, but you will pay OUTRAGEOUS prices for it. North Coast Brewings Tap Room & Grill fits into this second category, unfortunately. Beer-wise, I was disappointed and a little put off by the fact that they only have their standard offerings on tap (no seasonals or aged styles), and they actually wont even serve you a full pint (16oz) of their stronger, more interesting ales (Le Merle, Old Stock Ale, Old Rasputin, etc.). Oh sure, you will pay the same amount (in some cases, even more!) but you will only get an 8-10 oz serving, and in the case of Old Stock you only get 6oz!!! So, basically you are paying more for alcohol content, not beer!!! Would you do such a ridiculous thing with wine which has as much as 18%?! How stupid! If they really think their beers are that valuable then why can you buy 12oz. bottles at grocery stores for a reasonable price? If they are concerned about people getting wasted then why not put a disclaimer on the beer menu...and, while theyre at it stop serving wine and tear out the full bar? Ive been to many, many brewpubs and never seen such a strange and condescending practice. If youve never been to a brewpub, this place is for you. Otherwise, avoid it. There are much better places in N.Ca. that are worthy of your hard earned cash (Bear Republic, Triple Rock, etc.).

My friend and I recently moved to the area. I have two kids and she has one. After a day at the beach, we decided to head to the brewery for a late lunch/early dinner. We tried to sit in the bar area, but was told that "although it isnt illegal, the owner doesnt allow minors in the bar area". Fine with us, we were just trying to spare the dining customers from our slightly tired and hungry kids. We get a table in the dining room and order some food and a beer sampler each. The kids were a bit cranky, but once we got food they were happier. My 18 month old let out a few happy shrieks after which the server told me I "might want to take her for a walk because the diners at the next table were getting upset". We were about 10 minutes from being finished so I decided to just stay put, finish, and leave. After about five minutes, the woman at the next table got up, stood over our table, and glared at us. My friend asked her what her problem was and she told us we needed to leave. Things got heated, she swore at us, my friend swore at her, and we were basically ushered out with apologies. They have a kids menu, but this place is NOT kid friendly. We thought we would be taking visitors here(the beer is fantastic) but we will never go back.

Does not live up to the hype. The hostess where we are staying strongly recommended this location, saying the food was excellent. We arrived for dinner around 7 pm. When we arrived we were told there would be a 30 minute wait, even though there were numerous empty tables. So after waiting a short amount of time we were seated and things went downhill from there. Of the 5 entries on the menu they were out of two of them. The waiter asked if we wanted bread after we had ordered and we said yes. Then we had to ask him for it again 15 minutes later. After asking for it, after being offered it, a bus boy comes by and gives both myself and my wife one piece of dried out bread. Typically when you go to a nice restaurant and they offer bread its a little basket of it. Here after you ask three times you get a small crusty slice. When the meal arrived it was ok, not spectacular, and not worth the price for the amount. My wife had the fish and chips. She said the coleslaw was good. The fish was greasy. I had the chicken. The potatoes was better then the chicken. Overall this is not a place i would ever recommend, unless the McDonalds was closed. Then maybe, but probably not.

Date of visit: Sunday, June 26, 2016, 3:00 PM. Tasting room was full so we went to the dining room. Since there were three empty window tables we asked for one of them. We were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait. Huh?! The "hostess" informed us they rotate people by waiter stations. Definitely not about the customer here. We saw a party leave the tasting room so we grabbed their table. There were four servers in the tap room, not one of them made eye contact. We finally bussed our own table. After several more minutes we went and got our own menus. Finally, our surly waiter shows up, no smile, no greeting, no apology for the delay. I had the beet appetizer which didnt show up until my main course which was the kale salad which was a very skimpy portion for $14, and is was terrible. My dining companion had what was what was supposedly a salad with mixed greens, but was arugula. $70 for lunch for two people for lunch which consisted of two salads that sucked, an appetizer and three beers total. This place knows how to rip tourists off.

Good food, bad everything else. TL;DR Poor service, long wait, blood in the waiting room, fly in my drink. Pizza tasted good. I went here for lunch in the middle of the week and had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant. While I was waiting I noticed blood on the waiting room floor. Im pretty sure it was human blood. After finally getting seated I had to wait another 10 minutes to get a server to come by my table and start the drinks. My drink arrived with a dead fly in it. No seriously. I had to flag down a waitress to get another one. I ordered the spanish pizza and it took a long time to arrive. Once it finally made it to my table it was very tasty. Good crust/bread good flavor, little on the pricey side. Server never returned to refresh my drink or ask for more. On the way out of the restaurant, I saw the blood spot again, now drier and someone had tracked it on their shoe. I wont be coming back here.

Ok, Im on a vacation exploring redwoods and beaches of Northern California, staying in Ft Bragg for 3 nights and this was my first stop for dinner and my favorite pastime, beer tasting! Started with the Beer a Engine Red Seal Draft, smooth, flavorful, great beer, then I ordered the Beet Plate , I love beets, had golden and red beets over greens, great dressing, pine nuts(all local) and was spot on! Next ordered the Old Rasputin, Russian Imperial Stout, REALLY EXCELLENT beer, paired it with the Fish and Chips, local caught cod, beer batter using their scrimshaw beer and the most OUTRAGEOUS garlic fries Ive ever had !! Finished the evening off with a Old No. 38 Stout and the "Brother Thelonious Ice Cream" dessert! OMG! I was in heaven! Go to the Bar side of establishment, nothing spectacular or unexpected, but Im my opinion, this place is a MUST DO when in Ft Bragg!!
