East Village Asian Diner has been in Encinitas for about 4 years now. unfortunately it took me this long to discover it; I blame myself. East Village is located at 628 S. Coast Hwy 101 Encinitas just south of East E. Street. East Village serves fresh, flavorful Asian inspired comfort food. Their spin on dishes comes with a California influence, like their Monk Pots (Bibimbap), Kimchi Burrito, and Carnitas Dynamite Fries. This might throw off purists but that is not what they are trying to do. What they do is succeed in delivering great tasting food using fresh ingredients in a casual setting. What I ate... Kimchi Cup ~ Napa Cabbage, green onion, and spices. (you know… Kimchi) * Note ~ I wish this came as an entrée because I could have eaten it all day. Mongolian Monk’s Stone Pot ~ Baby spinach, marinated bean sprouts, bamboo shoots/carrot kinpira, zucchini, sautéed mushrooms with house blended spicy sauce, brown rice, and an over-easy egg. I really like this place just writing this makes me want to go back.

Great food with friendly, if sometimes distracted, service. They rock the monks stone pots here -- a blazin hot bowl filled with rice, veggies, a soft cooked egg, hot sauce and usually one other protein: pork, beef, chicken, salmon, shrimp, tofu. You can get the monks bowls with white or brown rice (I prefer the nuttiness of brown -- I also live for fiber). They have other tasty, not over fussy, asian-ish food as well. The high stools are pretty comfortable, the booths are comfy cozy, but the chairs are leftovers from the Spanish Inquisition. As for beverages, Sapporo on tap is always a plus. And the yuzu marmalade tea (think extra-pulpy, hot lemonade) is WONDERFUL, especially if its cold out. Despite nightmarish on-street parking and occasional 15 minute waits, we come here often -- its that good!

Ive been here several times and usually only get the buckwheat noodles lunch special. I really like it; its delicious. It comes with with a big pile of seasoned seaweed and rests on a bed of arugula, topped with carrots and jicima. I have also had a couple of bites of the Thai-style wrap. Its not incredibly impressionable, and the flavors are pretty basic, but it was ok. I have only been here for lunch; I think the lunch specials are pretty good, $6.95 for the noodles or the rice bowls. Although I have not ordered drinks here it appears they have a nice selection of beer. Also, they almost always have either Shaolin Soccer or some Miyazaki cartoon, or both playing on their flat screens. It makes my day.

Sit. ORDER a Monk Bowl—which is a PIPING hot stone bowl, with rice, veggies, soy sauce and meat of your choosing. (This isnt the only thing on the menu but it is most definitely the best!) WAIT for it to cool off for 1.5 minutes, or until you cant take it anymore. (They say the rice gets crispier the longer you wait to dive in). SIP on your ice cold mug of craft beer (They have a huge selection). EAT the best rice bowl on earth. (Try not to touch the bowl, it might burn you). Who knew rice could be so delicious? You have to try this place for yourself.

Dont try to come here at night on a weekend as it can get very busy. Lunch will probably be your best bet if youre looking to be seated immediately. The menu is short and sweet. There are several noodle dishes, a soup option, and a kimbap option. Ive had their beef and and vegetable chow mein and it was delicious! The meat they serve is VERY good quality. Its incredibly juicy and tender. The service is also wonderful. Our waitress checked on us several times and she was genuinely nice. This place was great!

The Monk bowls are incredible. I order them without rice, as Im on a keto diet. These things have been my go-to lunch. I am here at minimum twice a week. Ive lost over 60 pounds so far. My favorite protein for the Monk Bowl is the Fallen Monks Pulled Pork. Ordered with extra veggies instead of rice and two extra eggs cuz I like eggs. Dont you judge me! Huge portion for reasonable lunch price. Staff is always friendly. I highly recommend.

This place is great! The staff and hostess were super friendly, they even sat us after we missed our initial call. The line moves fast! As for the food, its exactly what youre craving. Very large portions for a great price. The Monk Bowl is bursting with flavor and you can add all the extra sauce you want. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Asian flavor and who is hungry.

This place keeps increasing in popularity and its easy to see why, the food is delicious!! They offer every variety of Asian Food - Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Fusion - which makes for a very lively menu. There are also many adult beverages available that compliment the menu. Its a double whammy! This place is awesome.

Love this joint! Its renowned for the "monk bowls", but the spicy soup, the beef & noodle dish, the pulled pork fries, the kimchi street pancakes...really everything is a cut above. Dont tell them, but Id pay double!

Awesome place in downtown Encinitas which actually stays open somewhat late. The food is excellent and the service is great. The decor and architecture feels like a modern late century diner. Definitely worth a try!
