The waitress was great! The food was very bland. We also were in a big group so we were really grateful for the good service. The bad part was when my wifes ordered a 2 combo plate. Only her soup came out but nothing else, and the soup was tepid at best. Her empanadas didnt come out for another 15 minutes and her rice and beans (included with the meal) never came. We asked and later got her empanadas and nothing else. The waitress showed us what she entered for our order and it was correct, but it didnt come out that way. We asked for some compensation. The bill came back with $2.75 off from a $51 bill. My wife then approached the manager who was unapologetic and claimed that the rice and beans only cost $1.99. A $0.76 discount for waiting? What an insult. She unwillingly comped the meal and returned the check still without an apology for their mistake. Not worth a return visit.

My wife, 3 boys (ages 11, 10, 15months) and I went there today, Friday 11/06/2009 at approximately 6:00 pm. We were seated by the hostess. Shortly after we several other parties were seated in our area and immediately served drinks and tortilla chips. 20 minutes after being seated, not one single server approached us to say, "Ill be right with you", "would you like any drinks", etc..... As my wife put it, "No one even acknowledged us". I immediately left. Called the manager to express my frustration. He offered to comp our food but I told him that I was a man of principle and integrity so I declined. My ethnicity is unimportant in this matter. All that matters is that this happened and I do hope that they take corrective action so no one would EVER have the same experience as I. I told the manager that this was my first and last time ever going to an On The Border Restaurant..

I have a friend that has a need for low salt & sugar intake. On the Border staff went into detail with my friend 2 days before our lunch and helped her lower her salt & sugar intake to roughly 5 mg of sugar, salt & cholesterol power serving. One was to 90 mg per serving, but NOT BAD. Thanks for going out of your way On the Border for helping people with their health diet intake! That speaks A LOT to me!

Weve been going there for a while and usually its not too bad. The chips and salsa are why we decided to go today, theyre really good. The last few times the food has been so-so but the service is always very good, however, today at lunch, the service was not so great, in fact it was bad. In a nutshell,the food was bland and the service was bad. Weve decided to write off On Border.

Food tastes like it came from a cheap cafeteria. My salad was drenched in dressing and had huge pieces of lettuce. My table -mates didnt fair much better with their more traditional picks. Server incorrectly advised what came with an entree, so they ordered an extra side that they didnt need. Place was crowded, so it must appleal to someone.

Very helpful staff great service no complaints there. But the food is beyond gross! I get that its not an authentic mexican restaurant but this menu is not even one bit close to real mexican food. I ordered a burrito and the meat is like the taco bell meat and they heated it up wit the sour cream on top. Just plain nasty food

Ive been going here for at least a decade. Ive enjoyed the food and, for the most part, the service. We had some issues in the past with being seated, but it wasnt bad enough to keep me from coming back. I do agree that the drinks are on the lighter side.

Elk Grove restaurant: Excellent food, drink and service. We were served by Holly who was cheerful, helpful and gave great service. We were extremely happy and will continue going back. I highly recommend On the Border in Elk Grove.

Went there for my birthday and had a great time! The menu has quite a few menu options for vegetarians and they are always willing to make tweaks to items that are not veggie. Service was quick and foot was spot on! Thanks!

nothing spectacular, but consistently a good place to eat. Food is good, staff is (and has been) very friendly. Been here for Lunch, Brunch and Dinner. No complaints. Would recommend. Typical "mexican" (american) food.

I love their steak frijitas, but half the time the meat is not seasoned enough. The times they have more seasoning it is outstanding. My only criticism is the seasoning of the meat is not consistent.
