I just went there for on my birthday (Cheery Island has free green fees for your birthday), and I had a GREAT time and LOVED the course. I had played there a few times back in the 90s and really liked it back then, but hadnt had a chance to get back out since (or golf much since getting married and having kids). But it was wonderful to come back to this beautiful, challenging, and totally fun golf course. It is a beautiful, well though out design, worked into an awesome natural setting - convergence of two forks of Dry creek, with old, fully developed riparian forests. Several holes present hitting over creeks/wooded areas, over/adjacent to lakes, and driving your cart over bridges. Also, there are some "lay up" holes, where you really have to think about placement, and then get the ball over a hazard with your fairway/approach shot. The greens are in fantastic shape and roll well without being overly fast. The fairways are in great shape, bunkers well maintained and well placed, and pretty much every hole presents a new challenge and look. I ended up using 13 of my 14 clubs (the only one I didnt use was my 3 hybrid, but used 4hy and 3wd). The staff was friendly and helpful, and even wished me happy birthday. I was paired up with another twosome, who were really nice (I had gone by myself, because it was on a Wednesday, I took the day off, and none of my family/friends had it off). The facilities are good - I warmed up at the driving range, which gives nice targets. The bar & grill didnt offer much, but I did grab a hot dog after my round, which was pretty tasty. Green fees, even though I didnt have to pay on my birthday, are very reasonable. And they offer 9 holes and twilight rates. Cart rental is also reasonable. My only complaint about this course is its not particularly easy to get to, unless you live in the immediate vicinity (I dont). Otherwise, its a lot of surface streets and traffic lights to get there, unless you do a far round-about way (take highway 99 to Elverta road) - I say round-about way, that is if youre coming from eastern Sac suburbs, but if youre coming from south or west or Davis or Woodland, 99 to Elverta will be fast and easy. But its worth being patient with the heavy surface street traffic to get there, because this course is so fun and so beautiful. Cherry Island is, and always has been, one of my very favorite golf courses in the Sacramento area. Highly recommended.

Terrible Golf Experience Booked 1156 tee time, didnt tee off until 1240. Staff gave impression this was normal. Front 9. Started at 1240, made the turn at 345. (+3h 1/2 round) Most holes had at least 3 groups on each hole. Par 4 7th had 4 groups stacked up, ranger came by to offer water, not encourage anyone to maintain pace of play.....quit after 9 when 3 more groups were stacked up on 10. Green/Fairway in good condition. Tee boxes looked like a litter box Also lots of golfers blaring Metallica/Pantera from their golf carts. Nothing wrong with the music, but trying to tee off with 8 other people watching each hole and 1980s metal playing sucks. Youve been warned. Spend extra couple $$ for teal end, or just go to ancil

Ive been golfing here for a few years and never had an issue, but we had a twosome, they were busy and the marshal didnt clearly communicate with us that he wanted us to pair up with the twosome behind us. The marshal rolls up on us with a bad attitude using profanity and telling us that he TOLD us that wed be golfing with the group behind us. Then kept up his bad attitude for a few minutes and we had enough at that point then left the course. Cherry island, you need to take a closer look at the people that you hire and let them know that disrespecting their customers will not be tolerated. Guys like this are bad for the game of golf and bad for your business. I WILL NOT ever go back here.

Just had a phone call with Lashondra and it was the most confusing call Ive ever had. I was literally just looking to play 9 holes and she was not clear what so ever about being able to book a tee time. Then she started getting a very strong attitude once I was confused (she was making no sense). Need less to say I will not be playing there tomorrow or ever again after that interaction.

Good fields but horrible parking. The place allows to many soccer team events to be overbooked where there is no parking and even where there are not any no parking signs visible they are everywhere around the field and you will get ticketed. This is a real big issue when the complex fills up all parking spots and starts turning people away with no other place to go.

Challenging course, but they sometimes stack the course with too many players and the last time we played there was no evidence of a course marshall making sure the rate of play was being monitored. We had to wait at every tee box and iften in the middle of each fairway

You might say I cut my teeth at Cherry Island as a beginner, the first 18 hole course I played on a regular basis. This is where I really learned the game, the challenges the course puts in front of you, and to appreciate the beautiful surroundings a golf course offers.

This layout is nice, playing through woodlands and creeks, with a few ponds thrown in. Greens are in terrific shape, the $28 weekday walking rate is excellent. Note: the 1st hole is the worst on any course, easy but poorly designed.

The people in the pro shop were not friendly and oblivious to everything. The Course was ok and the greens were nice. None of the hazards were filled and the old timers think they own the place.

My first experience with a course that has FootGolf too. I have to say I didnt enjoy the course. I dont plan to play golf there again, unless the FootGolf goes away.

Friend had their daughters sweet 16 there and the place was like a high school cafeteria. Pass on this place anytime for events. Not sure about their golf though

Course was alright. It was not amazingly beautiful and the did have a T box built on a slant. Food was decent so all around a 3 star experience.

Nice little course but not advised to play a round during a summer afternoon in Sac. If you do, make sure you hydrate and bring a lot of water.

Good 18 holes at a good price, cart was included. Just difficult enough for beginners but can still be enjoyed if you are a good golfer.

Interesting layout. Much variety. Good and fast greens the day I played a few weeks ago. Enjoyed it.
