Ambience is mediocre (at best, since it is in a strip mall), but the food is excellent. Has both Indian and Pakistani dishes ... but Id recommend sticking with the Tandoori style dishes that are more common to Pakistani food. The curries are very good too, but not as good as the "barbeque" items. Id rank Shalimar in San Francisco as better than Shan, but this is by no means a denigration of Shan in Santa Clara ... in fact, Shan is better than Shalimar in Fremont, for example! Some others Id also recommend: Pakwan in San Francisco (my wifes favorite of all of them, I believe.) EDIT: Recently, I had a chance to compare Shan (in Cupertino now) and Shalimar (in San Francisco) a day or so apart, and I now believe that Shan is better!

Savory Indian food on the spicy side, I went with the cheapest entree on the menu, the chicken briyani at 9 dollars. I was blown away by how similar it is to the chicken briyani I grew up with in singapore. Super effective bowl of yogurt included to help with the spiciness if you are not used to the spiciness (yogurt is a staple of Indian/Pakistani food I think). Complimentary masala tea (sugar added if you want it sweet) polished off this authentic taste of traditional Indian/Pakistani cuisine. My heart melted a little at how traditional it tasted, the many spices used in the briyani exploded with a contrast of clove flavors. Will be back to visit again soon.

We had a little get together and thought it would be nice to get some biriyani. We ordered about 10 plates of biriyani to go. When we opened it was cold and it was tasteless. The rice was not cooked fully and there was no salt or any masala in it.The portions was huge but nobody wanted to eat it and the raita was even bad. It was jus a little curd and mixed with milk and just chopped mint it nothing else. I felt they just gave us the leftover from morning or maybe before. We were too far away and could not return it. But we will never ever go back there again.

I used to like this place when it was at its old location. This new place has more room but the food quality and especially service have degraded significantly. The lamb chop was almost burnt and was pathetically small. It seems they had removed most of the meat from the bones to make other lamb dishes. The cashier person doesnt acknowledge you when youre in front of him to place your order. When we went to pay he stayed on the phone and just blurt out the figure. We werent even sure if he was talking to us. We wont be going back.

Disgusting! Sickening! Tasteless! These guys should stop calling themselves a restaurant and change to creating rat poison! The food is really bad! I took one bite of the naan and paneer and threw it all away. The naan had a thick layer of garlic, enough to keep most vampires at bay. The paneer, well let’s just say it seemed like someone just puked in the dish. Would never order again from them again. Really disgusting! Food can be considered weapons of mass destruction! Yuck! :-(

Two stars are for the great Indian food. However, the chairs and tables are old and need to be changed. The decoration is horrible. seriously people, try to spend some money on the decoration and it will look like a palace. The ceiling needs to be changed, we were able to see the color is yellow, which mean there is an old leak. I will go again as soon as they start taking care about the customers more than the money.

Ordered the Chicken Curry Korma and Lamb Curry with garlic naan and plain naan and mango lassi. Curry arrived first. Waited several more minutes for naan to arrive, while curry sat. Drink arrived last, while mouth burned. Naan was decent. Lassi had ice, which was weird, but tasted fine. Curry, however, was full of bones. Hurt my teeth, made me choke, and couldnt be avoided by any method.

OK tasting food, OK ambiance and unusual service that lets everything down. You have to order food right at the counter. They wont tell you plates and silverware and water are self serve. You need to get them all yourself. Plates/silverware tend to be dirty/poorly washed. Best to do a take-out. Mediocre waiters dressed up poorly in casuals.

Their weekend buffet is very expensive $12 and food is lousy and very greasy. . When we tried it a month back for a Sunday lunch, there were about 3 tables full. This week I tried again a to go order and I see only one person eating the food. Biriyani is a mere tasteless. It may worth only on the weekdays when you do dine-in.

The food is amazing, absolutely great food. Our family all, 12 of us have been going to this restaurant for many birthday celebrations. The naan goes great with the Chicken Tikka Masala and Basmati rice. There is a plethora of varied dishes from all over India and Pakistan. If you love Indian food this is the place to go.

먼저 오더하고 자리에 앉던가 take out하는곳 인도음식이 그리울때 적당한 가격으로 식사 하는곳...고급스럽지는 않다. 물과 티는 셀프~^^

dont order paneer tikka tandoor. They just give you few pieces of overburnt paneer in a horrible way. Disappointed with Shan. They can do much better. Please replace the yellow onions with red onions, its terrible to eat yellow onions raw. The veggie biriyani was good. Naan was ok.

One of the better tasting Indian food in Bay Area. - Restaurant is very spacious - Has a mix of self service and service - Food tastes great - Complimentary bottomless Chai! - Curry quantity is fairly reasonable - Overall, good price performance ratio

After finding Shan I didnt miss the Pakistani (Punjabi) Food anymore. Everything tastes just the same as we have back home. All Paki people, this is the place where you wanna come everyday. Economical and Tasty.

Halal meat is served here. Good Pakistani food. No Buffet unfortunately. Some people have told me they have gotten sick after trying the chutney. I did not have any issues myself.

Food was flavorful. Will not rate it the best. Aloo naan is too heavy but tastes good. Could be crispier. Curries were good. Had okra masala and paneer masala. Paneer was too hard.

Good food, especially tandoori like chicken tikka breast which is juicy, flavorful and well done. Its hard to get soft, well cooked, grilled breast at most places.

Best Pakistani and Indian food in the whole bay area. Very modest ambience and price. My son has not been able to find anywhere in L.A. to match the food quality.

Tried veggie food not good... Space is plenty and you have to self serve everything (napkin, water, spoons, etc) except food which comes to your table

Great food, especially their paneer masala! I have been going there for more than 8 years now. But their service should be improved.

Very informal restaurant. Building is not in great condition. Good food. Try the tandoori chicken leg. Great for take out orders.
