Lame retarded teenagers at the front counter always getting the order wrong (no matter how simple)....and more interested in talking on the phone than actually working....this includes leaving a to go order to sit for 20 mins. before I had to ask if possibly that was my order...she puts down the cell phone and says "Oh!" and gives it to me 30 mins after I get there..... Sometimes its good but, 7 out of 10 times its mostly mediocre and alot smaller portions these days....AND WAY OVERPRICED!!!

I could not believe when I paid $12 and received a dry bun with some bland chicken and a few sprinkles of BBQ sauce on it, nasty cole slaw and a hunk of corn bread. It is not difficult to make a chicken BBQ sandwich tasty. It is way over priced and I think I would have let it slide if the meal only cost 6 bucks at the very most. I will never go back there again.

I recommend getting the pulled pork, chicken, and brisket trio plate. The food here is pretty decent, a little on the dry side for me. I like my BBQ already mixed into my meat instead of getting it on the side like they do here. The banana pudding is really bomb, a great way to end the meal. Portions are good too, I never leave hungry.

Collard greens & fried pickles ARE SO yummy...seriously addicting. Great food (banana pudding melts in your mouth!) and take out. Staff is great, exceptional service. Love the addition of outdoor covered awning & the lights at night. Just a great place to lunch & munch. ALL the food is delicious, smoked turkey is exceptional.

Will not be back. Do not expect old fashion southern ribs and sides. Ribs tasted baked instead of bbqed. Very very very kid friendly... Kids running around playing on playground of a couple of steps from tables . Servers did not anticipate you at all, for example, only brought a knife or refills when asked.

I have no idea why people give this place mediocre reviews. Maybe the parking? Who cares...its not their fault the cat grooming place next door hogs all the asphalt. THE best pulled pork bbq sandwich Ive had in OC. Plus, HELLO! BLUEBERRY CORNBREAD! If you like small time, non-chain bbq, this is your place.

Food was incredible. We got the sample plate. Best service Ive had at any restaurant in a long time. The owner was such a fantastic host along with all the employees. We are from Utah and travel to California for vacation frequently, this is now going to be a tradition for us to come here.

Raised in Texas, and a self proclaimed BBQ connoisseur, I found the Beach Pit to have a great atmosphere and even better food. The pulled pork was amazing and the brisket was tasty. I highly recommend this pit to anyone who is searching for that good southern BBQ experience in Newport.

Have been around Newport a couple of years and have been meaning to try this place. I believe it could hold its own around Memphis, KC or Carolina. Absolutely blows the other bbq joints around Newport and Costa Mesa out of the water. Will be back and often.

Fantastic homestyle BBQ joint, the ribs were fall off the bone and the brisket was to die for. The owner came over and check up on the order. Nice family atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating but most importantly amazaballs food.

The service was so warm and friendly. The food was unbelievable. So very delicious. Pulled pork, beef brisket and mac and cheese were awesome. And the atmosphere was very comfortable especially with our three kids in tow.

We had our Coast Guard Christmas Party catered by Beach Pit BBQ and it was excellent! BBQed meat was great, and the sides were delicious too! We would recommend it to anyone who loves really good BBQ.

For being a BBQ place its a delicious art. A bit pricey but then again we are in Newport. Great for families, gated playpark for kids. Fabulous pulled pork sandwich or ribs.
