I have a long and personal history wit this place. I remember going to this restaurant back when I was just a kid, having just immigrated to the United States. Back then it was a buffet with Chinese, Korean, Japanese and European dishes thrown together. It was delicious. Genghix underwent many renovations as it transitioned over the years to become the traditional service restaurant it is today. They have kept many of the Chinese dishes they served before, and have expanded their sushi menu dramatically. The end result is a restaurant, whos offerings have matured and refined from its days as a greasy spoon buffet, into a rich and charming Asian fusion restaurant that offers some of the best dining in Castro Valley. Do yourself a favor and take someone you love to check it out.

I was excited to eat here for the first time. When we went in I brought my 9 month old baby and asked for a booth so she could sit on the end. The waiter told me that she would be in the way.I thought Wait? You are supposed to accommodate me right? Whats the big deal about seating? I sternly said, " I DO NOT WANT A TABLE." and he just snooted and walked away! The menu was exciting but when food came it looked like a child size serving. They try to be clever and form the rice to a little pyramid. Looks nice but still hungry. The waitress was way overwhelmed and it took way to long to eat here. I had to ask for my bill twice. Least to say I will not come back. Ill drive to Oakland and get some real Asian food!

Castro Valley is small, and Genghix seriously dominates as the best restaurant my wife and I have been to in town. Their sushi is amazing and you really get a lot for your money. They have some of the larger rolls I have seen in the $8-14 price range (per roll) and the ingredients have always been fresh. When the place gets busy, you may have a wait and service may be a little slow, but I honestly never mind because the food is amazing and you will need some time to rest after stuffing your face with a whole lot of deliciousness!

This place has undergone a major overhaul from when it used to be Genghis Khan many years ago. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is incredible. Im so impressed with how many different selections are on the menu. Ive always come for the sushi but Ive seen other people with regular entrees and they look so good. Top three favorites: Volcano Lobster Roll (one of the specials), Flaming Scallops and Salt and Pepper Mushrooms.

Having lived in town for almost 40 years, I recall how things were many years ago. I recall when Genghix moved in yet I always drive right by, for years..... my mistake! Ended up here with a friend in early 2017 and have been back probably 5 times in 2 months! Amazing staff and the food is spectacular! Love the hot and sour soup and cantonese chow fun. All the sushi is off the hook, this is a must visit place when in Castro Valley.

The interior is very inviting and probably surprising for those who never been that reside locally. I tell you this! Go there before 3:00pm for great deals on $8.00 meals that include soup of the day, the house salad and a main dish. I always order Honey Walnut Shrimp with white rice. One can also request Miso Soup over soup of the day. Plus their Thai Ice Tea is bomb/fantastic! Great desserts too!

I have eaten here many times no problem, but today was terrible! The cucumber salad tasted very old and was sent back but they "forgot" to take it off the bill. Our individual orders came out so staggered that one of us was completely finished before another got her food-and we all ordered sushi. One of the orders came out completely wrong. I will give them another go, but today was bad.

The Lion Queen (scallop and Unagi sushi, baked), is delicious. I kept digging further into the foil to scrap out the remnants with my chopsticks. The ambience is nice, like a repurposed restaurant. Its some of the best fusion food in the area. Lunch prices are very reasonable. Portions are very good sized to even save half to take home. They even have Thai tea here too. Yummers.

We ordered Edamame, Genghix Roll, Shrimp Pad Thai, and Peking ribs. My favorite is the genghix roll. I would recommend it. It was crunchy and tasty. They also gave a good portion of Edamame. Pad Thai is alright. I had better pad Thai. It needs more sauce. Peking ribs is ok but it had distinct taste.

I can always confidently bring anyone here for lunch or dinner and know the quality and presentation is constantly to notch. The menu has such a variety, that even if our friends are not sushi fans, they can be sure to find something they will enjoy.

Best Chinese food Ive had. Period! Well worth any effort to get there. Prices good, not crowded on a Sunday evening and service impeccable. Even loaded our doggie trays for us! Id given up on the genre, cause they were all the same...

Excellent food and the fish always tastes fresh! Also have a great selection of saké and beer. Entrees can be shared if youre dining with a large group. Awesome place for Japanese and Chinese fusion cuisine!

It wouldnt let me rate them 0 stars. Worst customer service. The manager is rude. And touches his workers inappropriately. I know because I heard form them personally. I am disgusted. Dont go there.

Ate here last week for the first time. Food was tastey, but the servers rarely came by to check on us and took 20 mins to get a glass of water. My friends said it was unusual for their service.

Food was really good. Definitely a step up from the usual Asian fare, but what really stood out was the desserts. Wow.
